My name is Marlieta. My daughter lives in The Colony, TX, a suburb of Dallas where she has been unfairly treated by law enforcement.
On February 2nd, my granddaughter was having a manic bipolar episode when my daughter's husband (a disabled veteran) came in. My granddaughter had hit my daughter several times in the past, despite the fact that her mother has lupus and was having a flare-up at the time. When the husband yelled at my granddaughter, she kicked him in his privates. He then grabbed her to restrain her from kicking and hitting, while trying to calm her down. She then raised her foot to kick him again, and they both fell onto the floor. The husband was trying to get up when my granddaughter bit a plug out of his hand. My daughter was able to get my granddaughter to finally calm down enough, and my granddaughter left. Later that day, the police came to the house looking for the husband, but he was gone to school.
On Friday, February 6th, my granddaughter's father drove to The Colony TX to pick her up and take her to move with him to Las Vegas. There was a police escort (which is on file with The Colony police department) who escorted my granddaughter into the apartment to get all of her belongings.
On Friday, February 13th, The Colony police (three male officers) came to my daughter's home, told her they had a warrant for her arrest, and took her out of her apartment in her knee-length gown with no underwear on, dragged her down three flights of stairs, and threw her into the back of their squad car, which has no seats. My daughter has three misdemeanor charges, which the judge put a bond of $80,000 on. She has to wear an ankle monitor because of an order of protection that the judge added restrictions to, filed by my granddaughter. My daughter is not allowed to go home to care for her two minor children because of the judge's restrictions stating that because my granddaughter is on the lease, my daughter can't be within 1500 feet of the apartment. We've gone to the county (Denton County) to see if we can get the restriction modified, only to be told that a lawyer has to make that request. I have maxed out the only credit card I have to pay a bail bondsman to get her out of jail. The court-appointed attorney still has not reached out to her. I've driven from Chicago to The Colony, TX, because my other two grandchildren need supervision. My daughter needs assistance with legal fees, food , and rent. We would be truly grateful for any assistance.
