Forty-three percent of households in Prince William County are food insecure—the second highest rate in the entire DC region. Over 16,000 children in our county don't have enough to eat, and the situation is getting worse. Recent ICE arrests have removed wage earners from families that were already struggling to put food on the table. When the breadwinner is taken, families that were barely making it now aren't making it at all. Many people are afraid to go to work, and those same people are afraid to go to the food pantry.
The PWC Hunger-Free Initiative is an all-volunteer coalition fighting to change that. Every dollar we raise goes directly to the food pantries that feed our neighbors—Haymarket Regional Food Pantry, ACTS, and Creating Foundations for Hope. Last year, we collected 3,000 pounds of food for these organizations. This year, the need is greater, and we must do more. On June 13th, we're holding our second annual community food drive and rally at Harris Pavilion in Historic Downtown Manassas. But you don't have to be there to help. You can help right now.
Your donation feeds a hungry child in Prince William County—not somewhere far away, but right here, right now. Every dollar goes straight to the pantries. Please give what you can. Together, we can build a stronger, hunger-free community.
