We need your help today to save Fresno's Historic Tower Theatre and the heart of its cultural and performing arts district. Tower District Supporters, we are calling on you to chip in what you can to support this legal fund so our local small businesses can challenge the sale and claim their legal rights now being trampled by the Theatre's pending sale.  <br /><br />Fresno's Historic Tower Theatre is being sold to a local church in violation of the City's Zoning, the decades old Tower Specific Plan, and outside the order of fair public oversight for land use changes through City established Planning and Implementation Committees. The attempted purchase and sale blatantly circumvents a Right of First Refusal held by Sequoia Brewing Company in its lease.  A spot rezoning of the Tower Theatre and complex were to occur, as required by local zoning law, it would upend the long established Commercial Main Street Zone and put at-risk the sensitive use permits of the Tower District's bars, restaurants, nightclubs, and live entertainment venues.  That means no more liquor licenses, no new bars, no new clubs and entertainment venues, and no way that the current business could sell and transfer the existing licenses. This could impact business up to 1,000 feet from the Theatre, which is nearly the entire district. This could also displace many local non-profit film festivals, non-profit live performance festivals and even Sunday opera performances. <br /><br />Sequoia Brewing Company, with the support of the community is seeking to have their legal rights recognized and be given the opportunity to purchase the Tower Theatre and complex, maintain its current land use and zoning, and safeguard the entire district from any possible rezone and resulting economic damages. The Theatre complex is currently in escrow despite unauthorized land use, a generous offer of support from the City of Fresno to find a building appropriately zoned, and overwhelming community opposition. Over 100 Tower District businesses, property owners, homeowners, and professional associations, along with over 2,000 additional community members, supporters and local faith leaders signed on to a letter demanding the City of Fresno intervene to prevent the sale and subsequent rezone. The property owners and the current buyers have not been persuaded and have instead elected to press on in defiance and threaten to pursue legal action rather than the traditional application process for permits irrespective of the legal rights of Sequoia Brewing Company, the community and the City of Fresno.

<div>Hello,
</div>
<div>Since September of this year our 7 year old daughter Tesla has not been feeling well. Over the last 3 months we have seen numerous doctors, had numerous tests, but her condition has worsened. Finally, The amazing doctors at Valley Children's Hospital working with Stanford University were able to finally give us the one thing we did not have, a diagnosis. Unfortunately, Tesla was diagnosed with a very rare blood cancer called Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma ALK+ . We now find ourselves in every parents worst nightmare. The treatment will be very aggressive as we find ourselves 3 days after diagnosis beginning Chemo Therapy. With treatment this cancer has an 80-90% survival rate. Our lives have now changed completely. Tesla will require 9 months of Chemo Therapy and will have 5-6 day hospital stays to receive treatment. We are very lucky to have Valley Children's so close to us, however even with inusrance the bills for deductibles and coinusrances will be piling into the thousands as well as our commitment to have either myself or her mother there every minute she is not with us in the hospital to comfort her causes us financial distress. Above all else please send us your prayers, thoughts, well wishes for Tesla to overcome this wicked disease even if you don't donate. We appreciate every well wish. We will beat this!

<div>Imagine your teenager, full of dreams, suddenly thrust into war, facing loss and fear. For Bucha’s students, this was reality—but through storytelling, they found light in the darkness.

<div><strong>A Book Born from Unimaginable Tragedy</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Ashborn is a collection of 44 magical realism short stories written by Ukrainian teenagers who endured the Russian Army’s occupation of Bucha. These are not just stories—they are acts of resilience, a way for young voices to process trauma and reclaim their hope.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>This book was lovingly compiled and edited by Lynne Welton, an American English teacher who returned to Ukraine in 2022 to help rebuild after the liberation of the Kyiv region.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>Lynne’s Journey</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Lynne’s connection to Ukraine began in 2015 when she first arrived in Kyiv after Russia’s invasion of Crimea and Donbas. She was drawn to the resilience of the Ukrainian people and their determination to protect their homeland. After the full-scale invasion in 2022, Lynne couldn’t stay away.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><em>“I saw the horrific photos after Bucha was liberated and made a promise that I would come and help rebuild however I could. So, I returned to Ukraine and became an English teacher at a local public high school in Bucha,”</em> Lynne shares.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Knowing the therapeutic power of storytelling and imagination in overcoming traumatic experiences, Lynne encouraged her students to channel their emotions into stories.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><em>“My brilliant juniors and seniors wrote short stories that I edited and collected into this book for you to enjoy,” </em>she adds.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Lynne’s husband, a Ukrainian soldier fighting on the frontlines, was so inspired by her book idea that he personally funded the cover art and printing of the first edition. His support ensured Lynne’s students could have a physical copy to take home at the end of the academic year.

<div><strong>Teenagers Everywhere Deserve to Dream</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>If you live in a safe country, where your children can pursue their dreams freely, take a moment to reflect on this: teenagers are teenagers everywhere. They should be discovering themselves, laughing with friends, and imagining their futures. But for the students of Bucha, their childhoods were overshadowed by war. Ashborn reminds us of what’s at stake—and what we can do to help.
