9% complete- My name is Lorraine, and I am reaching out for help during one of the hardest moments of my life. Back in October, I was served with eviction papers after being out of work for six weeks. I came down with severe pneumonia, which triggered a lupus flare and caused dangerously high fevers. Because I was so sick, I was unable to work and did not receive any pay during that time. This led to me falling behind on October’s rent, and I have been struggling to catch up ever since. This crisis has affected every part of my life—including my health. I was supposed to have surgery in October, but I had to cancel it because I didn’t know if I would have a safe, clean place to recover. My doctors now want me to reschedule the surgery for December, but I am still facing the same uncertainty. I am two months behind on rent again, and I cannot go into surgery not knowing if I will be homeless or unable to keep my incision clean. I was able to pay one month, but that hasn’t been enough to stop the eviction. Yesterday, I met with my pulmonologist and was told I need a biopsy on my right lung. While waiting for that appointment, on December 2nd I woke up to a 24-hour eviction notice on my door. It has now been two days, and tomorrow will be three—I'm terrified the sheriff could show up at any moment to enforce the eviction order. I genuinely do not know where I will stay starting tomorrow. To make matters worse, Florida’s new homeless law makes it illegal to sleep or camp in public places like parks, streets, and sidewalks. Violating it can lead to arrest. This adds an even deeper layer of fear and uncertainty to what I am facing. I am asking for help to pay up to four months of rent and utilities, so I can stay in my home, avoid homelessness, and safely recover from my surgery and upcoming lung biopsy. Stable housing right now means safety, recovery, and the ability to get back on my feet. I am praying for support—any amount helps, even sharing my story.
