What Liz cares about

Medical
My name is Liz Santos, and I’m reaching out with a humble heart on behalf of my husband, Joseph Michael Santos. Joseph is currently battling Stage 4 kidney failure, and his condition has reached a critical point. His kidneys are no longer able to function well enough to keep him healthy, and he urgently needs a kidney transplant to survive. He is officially listed for transplant at Cooperman Barnabas Transplant Center, and our family is praying that a compatible donor will come forward to give Joseph a second chance at life. A donor information link will be included at the bottom of this page for anyone who may want to learn more. First and foremost, we are seeking a kidney donor. Our greatest hope is that someone feels called to help Joseph by becoming a living donor. While financial support can ease the burden of this journey, what Joseph truly needs most is a matching donor who can give him the gift of life. That said, the reality of this process is overwhelming. In addition to ongoing medical care, emergency room visits, medications, transplant preparation, post-surgery recovery, and required travel, there may come a point where we have no other option but to explore all possible avenues to secure a donor. If that were to become necessary, any funds raised would be used to support those efforts, along with covering the extensive medical and recovery-related expenses tied to Joseph’s transplant. Joseph was born on April 23, 1979, and is one of those rare people who truly puts others before himself. He has a kind, generous soul and is always ready to help in any way he can—without hesitation and without expecting anything in return. Whether it’s offering his time, his strength, or simply a listening ear, Joseph always shows up for the people he loves. He is an amazing father to our two beautiful daughters, Brianna (13) and Emily (8), and a devoted husband who works tirelessly to provide, protect, and support his family. Family means everything to Joseph. He has worked continuously since 1998 for Continental Airlines, now United Airlines, always giving his best and doing whatever it takes to care for those who depend on him. Joseph has faced lifelong health challenges with incredible strength and resilience. He has lived with Type 1 diabetes since the age of 3, has a heart condition, and is now fighting kidney failure. Despite the pain, exhaustion, and uncertainty that come with this illness, Joseph continues to face each day with courage, faith, and hope—never losing his compassion for others. We are humbly asking for your kindness and support in whatever way you are able—whether that is considering becoming a donor, donating financially, sharing this campaign, or keeping Joseph in your prayers. Every act of support brings Joseph one step closer to the life-saving transplant he needs and the chance to live a healthier, fuller life again. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for standing with Joseph Michael Santos during this incredibly difficult journey. Your love, prayers, and support mean more than words can express.
