Beginning with Celia coming down with a respiratory virus, to now overcoming that virus, she has developed difficulties with eating and drinking, and we are now waiting inpatient for a surgery that will help her.

<div>Celia is an amazing 3, almost 4 year old, with a bubbly personality that brings so much light to our life. She experienced a brain injury at birth and was diagnosed with Autism at 19 months old. Celia is non-verbal and experiences developmental delays that have impacted her in all facets of her life form the way she communicates and understands us to the way she experiences the world around her. Celia has always had a unique relationship with food and drink that has culminated to her hospitalization today.

<div>From birth, Celia always had difficulty with bottle feeding and when she was old enough to drink other liquids, she only wanted to drink water. We tried everything from diluted juices to even soda, and she refused it all. But luckily, she loved water and had always drunk more than enough. Her relationship with food has always been a little more relaxed. She had always consumed a variety of foods and we never had issues with her nutritional intake. This has all stated to change over the past few months, gradually, and more recently, extremely.

<div>For the past few months, we have noticed Celia becoming slightly more picky with her food choices. Foods she was comfortable eating before, became more difficult for her to eat, but she was still able to exceed her nutritional needs.
</div>

</div>
<div>On February 23rd, Celia came down with a respiratory infection, parainfluenza, and she started eating significantly less and refusing to drink water, her only safe liquid. We decided to take her to the ER because she was beginning to show signs of dehydration. Because she was refusing all liquids, they decided to admit us until she was able to drink enough water on her own. What we thought would be an easy task for Celia, who always loved her emotional support water bottle, has turned into a weeks long battle with a potential developing eating disorder.

<div>We hoped after her recovery from the virus, she would be back to eating and drinking normally, however she is still requiring medical support, in the form of IV fluids, just to keep her hydrated. Her oral fluid intake has reduced so drastically, we consider ourselves lucky if she drinks more than a couple ounces a day. Her only safe liquid, water, is no longer a safe option in her mind, and we are out of liquids to try.

</div>
<div>While in the hospital, we have consulted many specialists, and have come to the conclusion that her refusal of water is not a physical barrier, but a mental one. While this issue can usually be handled outpatient, Celia has shown she cannot handle the outpatient medical device usually used for nutritional difficulties, a nasal feeding tube. We unsuccessfully attempted an NG tube drop twice, and both times she was extremely uncomfortable, to the point of becoming traumatized, and she ripped out the tube herself both times despite wearing low-level restraints.

<div>Our team decided that Celia’s sensory needs cannot handle an NG tube. Our only other option for an outpatient method of delivering hydration to her is to surgically place a g tube into her stomach. This device can be used for however long she needs it and is fully reversible when she no longer requires it.
</div>

<div>While this option is perfect for us and ensures she will not need hospitalization for any current or future nutrition or hydration feeding difficulties, we are required to wait at least two more weeks before she is eligible for the surgery. This procedure, while necessary, is considered elective, and will be safer for her at least four weeks after the onset of her last respiratory virus, which will be March 23rd.

<div>Due to this hospitalization, I have had to stop working, and Tara while still working, has missed some days. On the days Tara does work, she has to choose between spending a lot of money on gas traveling to the hospital after, or not seeing Celia as much as she’d like. I ran out of PTO early into the hospitalization, and this month will be receiving a paycheck that is significantly less than usual, and next month I may not receive much of a paycheck at all, depending on how long I continue needing to be off work.

I've been planning out this idea for a while and now it's finally happening!!! I want this cafe to be a really cute and relaxed space that students can come to to get boba, coffee, pastries and so much more while also getting to hang out, socialize and study with so many cats! There's going to be a main cafe area where you get your drinks, food, etc. and then there are going to be the large lounge areas where there will be so many kitties running around that you can cuddle, pick up, and play with! I also want to have some sperate quiet study rooms where you can bring a cat in to be with you while you study!! I have so many amazing and unique ideas to make this cafe sooooo fun and adorable. I want it to be a super comfy place people can come to study, relax, and socialize!!!

Boba Cat Cafe Startup Fundraising

Three years ago our friend Patrick Dean was diagnosed with ALS, a terminal neurodegenerative disease. For almost two years he’s needed 24 hour care, and now is receiving additional inpatient hospice care. He and his family are having to pay for these expenses out of their own savings.<br /><br />Patrick is the dad of two young children (the amazing Eloise and Julian) and husband of total badass Erin Josey. He's a son, a brother, and a friend to all. As co-organizer of the FLUKE minicomics festival he’s always been a champion of everyone in the small-press community. And he's <a href="http://patrickdeancomics.blogspot.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">a truly extraordinary cartoonist</a>. Although he's now completely immobilized and unable to speak, Patrick still stubbornly manages to make his incomparable – hilarious, sweet, sad, scary, goofy, profound – art, now <a href="https://www.instagram.com/patrick_dean_comics/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">through the use of eye gaze technology</a> .<br /><br />The only way Patrick can get the complex care he now needs is through continuous skilled nursing care, which is very costly and not covered by his insurance. His family is paying for this enormous expense with the savings they were counting on for their parents' elder care and for Eloise and Julian's futures. Let's help Patrick get the palliative hospice care he needs without him having to be afraid it will deny his family the future he wants for them.<br /><br />Patrick and Erin have emphasized that it's very important to them that no one donate to this campaign unless they can afford to. Help Patrick Dean and his family fight ALS

Hi everyone, Patrick is my 16 year old brother as well as my best friend. He is the life of the party and is always making me laugh as well as making new friends everywhere he goes. He was in a scary skateboarding accident and had really bad head trauma. He needed emergency head surgery because of how swollen his brain was. He is having to undergo another surgery to see if it works and has a long way ahead of him. He is not doing well but he is strong. The funds will help with all the procedures that are having to be done as well as future procedures that will be done. The help would really mean a lot to my family and I. These are extremely scary times for us and we could use all the help we can get. We appreciate all the love and help we have already been receiving so far.

Hello! I am very much sadden to say that my dad had been assaulted while trying to make money for my family by selling corn. He is an elotero and goes on his usual routes everyday. He is a very hard working man and known by many.  We had to take him to the Emergency Room so that they could help him and treat him because his injuries were pretty severe. His nose and head were busted open with a gun. My dad does not have insurance.Anything will be very much appreciated to help pay for his medical expenses. Hello my name is Diana Salazar, I’m Colombian born, but I’m an American resident. My husband is Yoel Rodriguez, born in Cuba and an American citizen. This fundraiser was set up in order to help alleviate lawyer, doctors/healthcare costs. It is also so we can pay back the money lent to us to pay bond for my husband and other personal expenses. My husband is the only worker in the family, he is the only one that brings money home. However, he is currently unable to work and provide for us because of the aggression committed against him. He is in extreme pain and that’s why he is currently unable to work. He is an independent worker and for the time being he is not able to return to his work. We are extremely grateful for everything everyone has done for us, since any help from you is extremely helpful for our situation right now.This is the backstory:44 year old Latin American Yoel Rodriguez, his wife and two children were shopping at Jacksonville's, Florida Walmart late Sunday when he was suddenly assaulted and injured by an off-duty Police Officer. According to witnesses reports, Yoel and his family were waiting in line to pay for their groceries, is important to note that this was at 8:30 pm, Walmart's closing time. However, they were not, the only clients left in the store. It is also important to note that neither Yoel nor his wife have a complete grasp of the English language. Therefore, Yoel could not understand why he suddenly was being asked to evacuate the premises. He kept repeating that 'they were going to pay', but the Officer insisted on evacuating him and his family from the store. That is when the Officer pushed the shopping cart into Yoel's young child, making the tense situation tenser. The Officer attempted to physically grab Yoel's arm to evacuate him. Yoel still couldn't understand what was happening and repeatedly said 'Don't touch me, don't touch me' in Spanish. He kept pulling away from the Officer, until you can see that in the video, the Officer decides to punch him in the face. This is clearly use of excessive force by the authority. He did not attempt to de-escalate the situation, find a translator and explain the situation to Yoel. Language barrier is never an excuse or justification for violence against civilians. Florida has a growing population of Spanish speaking individuals, the officer could have decided to look for a Spanish speaking employee, or even client, to help defuse the situation. Instead, he resorted to physical violence to arrest an extremely lost and confused Yoel. It is extremely important to note that Yoel was arrested on battery charges, but he is the only one that left with a broken, bloody nose and two black eyes.The Officer left seemingly uninjured.

This fund was started for a small community of Black Trans women living on the streets of Atlanta, many of whom are also sex workers. We now are not only able to help this community, but this project has grown into a unique opportunity to alleviate the chronic homelessness that exists among Trans people in Atlanta, especially among Black &amp; brown Trans people.<br /><br /><strong>Who I Am</strong><br /><br />My name is Jesse Pratt López. I am a Trans Latina from Colombia who calls Atlanta home. I use my experiences as a documentary photographer and grassroots activist to help folks from my community use their voices to resist systems of oppression and step into their own power. You can check out my photography at www.<a href="https://www.jprattlopez.photos/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">jprattlopez</a> .photos.<br /><br /><strong>Where We Started</strong><br /><br />I started this fund in mid-December 2019 to help a small group of Trans sisters I had met through ReVon Michaels, the “bougie queen” as she likes to call herself.<br /><br />ReVon is a Sagittarius with a huge smile and laugh, and an even bigger appetite. I first met her when she was strutting down the sidewalk in front of a Publix in downtown Atlanta. She was wrapped in a large blanket; her wig haphazardly placed upon her head and her curls as big as her smile. She asked if I could spare some change. I was about to tell her no, I don’t carry cash and I’m broke. But when I took a closer look, I realized at that moment that I was seeing my sister. My Trans sister. One of the Gurlz. A T-Slur as they like to call us on PornHub.com or right before they violate us.<br /><br />I told her that she looked beautiful and that I would be right back with some cash and a sandwich. When I returned she was so happy to see me. I asked her if I could take her picture.<br /><br />I would come back every couple of days to visit ReVon, or she would come to my house. We hung out, shared food, and she introduced me to the other girls who live and work on the Hoe Stroll – Piedmont Avenue, Atlanta, Georgia.<br /><br />I began a photo project to document the everyday lives of these Black Trans women: mundane, ugly, beautiful. Society has abandoned and discarded these girls. But their strength lies not in their struggles; it is in their survival in the face of adversity and their existence in the face of oppression. While creating this body of work, I walked the stroll with them, not only in order to walk in their shoes, but also because as a Trans woman myself, I realized this: while the rest of the world wants us not to exist, we are here, we have always been here, and we’re not going anywhere.<br /><br /><br />ReVon calls me momma. I call her daughter. And sometimes the roles are reversed. In the Trans community, we are each other’s elders because many of us don’t have anyone to support us. Since we met, I have become really close with ReVon — and the circle of my chosen family has become a little bit bigger.<br /><br /><br /><strong>The Fund: Where It Began and Where It’s Going</strong><br /><br />Once we became close, ReVon and the girls would share stories about the violence they experienced on the streets of Atlanta: getting raped, robbed, shot, and almost killed. Survival sex work has historically been the only profession that many Trans women have been able to succeed in. Many girls, especially when they don’t pass for society’s ideal archetype of what a woman should be, are denied jobs, housing, and other opportunities.<br /><br />Through my photography and presence in the Atlanta queer and trans arts and organizing scene, I saw a chance to get the girls the support and resources they needed. After initially raising $10,000 through this fund, I was able to secure them temporary housing through the winter holidays and assist with getting them necessities such as food, cell phones, clothes, and spending money. Eventually, I was also able to connect some of the girls to Jayme Stegar, the Lead Trans Outreach Specialist at <a href="https://someonecaresatl.org/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Someone Cares Atlanta</a>  Jayme was able to assist in finding  two of the girls a room in a rooming house led by Trans people. She has also been instrumental in connecting the girls to STI (sexually-transmitted infections) testing services and ensuring that they have the support to manage their immediate needs.<br /><br /><br />Unfortunately, by April 2020, we had run out of funds, at a time where the need was more pressing than ever in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. Through contributions from so many generous people, we were able to raise an additional $10,000.<br /><br /><br />Shortly after meeting this second goal, as uprisings ignited across the country to protest the murder and injustice faced by Black lives, this campaign received a resurgence of support. With over 70,000 donors, we have been able to raise $2 million and the fund continues to grow. With this renewed support, it became clear that we can achieve positive, sustainable, and permanent changes for the larger community of Black &amp; Brown Trans women in Atlanta.<br /><br />To that end, I have surrounded myself with local Trans-led organizations such as <a href="https://www.snap4freedom.org/home" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Solutions Not Punishment Collaborative</a> , <a href="http://www.southernfriedqueerpride.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Southern Fried Queer Pride</a>  and the <a href="http://transhousingatlanta.org/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Trans Atlanta Housing Program</a> , as well as service providers such as <a href="https://someonecaresatl.org/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Someone Cares Atlanta</a> , to begin working on a plan composed of smart goals for this transformed project. Further, I’ve been talking with the girls about their hopes for the future: what they need to build a stable foundation and what is now possible thanks to your support. <br /><br />With guidance and assistance from these organizations, I am working towards establishing a project guided by the Pathways <a href="https://endhomelessness.org/what-housing-first-really-means/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Housing First model</a> , based on the idea that “nothing in any person’s history or present precludes them from being able to be housed.” I have benefited greatly from the wise and kind input of Dr. Sam Tsemberis, the founder of Pathways to Housing in New York and originator of the Housing First model. My name is Mowlid Khadar Jigre. My father is the owner of Jigjiga business center LLC. We own a small business in Minneapolis, MN which was vandalized, looted and robbed. Due to the Minneapolis riots and the death of George Floyd a lot of black Somali owned businesses were affected by the riots. Our goal is to distribute the donations evenly the best we can. Starting with the midtown-Phillips and uptown areas the areas that were hit the hardest.  Some small businesses can’t recover from this. Please find it in your heart to donate what you can.
