Help Rebuild After Devastating House Fire

<div>On October 28, 2023 Katelynn and I were blessed with our baby boy Killian Cote DeFrances. Becoming a parent is truly the most amazing gift in this world. It's the moment you instantly stop caring about yourself and want nothing less than everything for a tiny human you just met. Killian was born perfect with no signs of concern. This however changed very quickly. I noticed in the nursery that Killian was missing skin on his fingers and his shoulder. This at first was not alarming. It wasn't until a small sticker was removed from his belly which lead to his skin pealing off that we knew something was wrong. This was the moment that as a nurse you know this cant be normal but your heart fights your knowledge and experience and tells you everything is ok. Katelynn and I held Killian one time before the Doctors told us he needed special care and was placed into a helicopter and flown to the nearest Children's Hospital. Killian wasn't eating and began getting blisters with even the most gentle care. Seeing your newborn child with IVs, wounds and being sent for testing is nothing you can prepare yourself for. Killian was diagnosed with Severe Junctional Epidermolysis Bullosa. The Doctors told us he presented the best they had ever seen for his condition. This gave Katelynn and I hope that just maybe his skin wouldn't continue to get worse. We were able to bring him home after staying in the NICU. No matter what we did his skin got worse. Within a couple weeks he was missing 30-40% of his skin and had sores and blisters in his mouth. This didn't stop him from attacking his bottle when it was time to eat and he loved to be held even when it had to be so painful. As strong as he is there was nothing we could do to stop him from getting infections. A few weeks after being home Killian was admitted a second time the hospital with fevers and infections. His skin was now getting worse literally by the minute. He needed multiple IVs, antibiotics and even a lumbar puncture. The Doctors had a meeting with Katelynn and I to explain Killians situation. His condition has no cure and his life expectancy only had a 20% chance to live past the age of 5 months. We decided to bring Killian home on experimental medications and show him as much love as we can while making him as comfortable as possible. Junctional Epidermolysis Bullosa comes with a large cost. Its mentally, physically, emotionally and financially draining. Killian is wrapped in bandages covering his entire body except is face and hands at times. He is unable to go to daycare so it requires full-time care from Katelynn and I. We honestly are blessed to get this much time with our newborn but not being able to work comes at a cost as well.

Many of you have reached out or asked why you haven't heard or seen pictures of our newborn baby. This has been an extremely hard time for us and asking for donations when we know so many of you are also struggling is not an easy thing for us to do. If you are unable to donate financially please say a prayer for our baby boy that his experimental medications will help give him comfort by healing his skin.

Killians Medical Expenses

This fund was established to celebrate and remember the life of Marnie DeVries. She is survived by her husband, Todd, and children, Kate and Mack.<br /><br />The raised funds will be used by Todd to alleviate immediate and long-term financial burden from medical bills and future educational expenses. Any amount is a blessing. <br /><br />We understand that some may be unable to donate but if you would still like to support the family, please share the link to this fund.  <br /><br />We encourage you to include a story or memory of Marnie in the comments which the family can look back at for comfort in the coming weeks, and months ahead.   <br /><br />******                                                                                                                                                            ******* <br /><br />On Thursday, October 29, 2020, the world lost an amazing mom and heaven gained a perfectly tenacious angel in Margaret “Marnie" Gilchrist (Fick) DeVries. There are no words to describe the heartbreak and pain felt by so many, but most especially by her husband Todd DeVries and their two beautiful twin children Kate and Mack (16) who are deeply grieving the loss of their devoted wife and loving mother.<br /><br />Marnie was a two-time cancer survivor who courageously battled her third bout during the last years of her life.  However, she would stop you in your tracks if you dwelled on her health.  Cancer did NOT define her life.  She did not want pity. She did not believe her life was cut short.  She believed she lived a FULL life. Watching Kate and Mack grow up to become wonderful teenagers was the missing piece to the puzzle that made her life complete.  She said repeatedly in her final months that the twins are her LEGACY.<br /><br />Marnie was an incredible daughter, sister, aunt, wife and mom.  She lived in the moment and never looked back. Marnie was known for her strong convictions and determination.  She lived life to the fullest and made every day count.  <br /><br />She was a “Rock Star” in many ways.  In the way she commanded a room.  In the way others gravitated towards her.  In her infectious spirit.  She was a music connoisseur who spent countless hours dancing and singing to her favorite songs. Whether in the car or in the kitchen, she had no shame channeling her inner Adele, Eddie Vedder, Stevie Wonder or Pat Benatar -- belting out the tunes at maximum level.  <br /><br />Marnie had many passions, but nothing made her happier than supporting her children in their various activities. She was also a beach lover, a talented photographer, a fierce card player, an ambitious home improvement do-it-yourselfer, and an ardent “armchair quarterback” for her Eagles and Nittany Lions. Marnie lived her life by simple rules and taught Kate and Mack to do the same:  Do what you love, Live your life, Be kind, No drama, Always have fun, Music Rules!!<br /><br />We will all miss Marnie’s beautiful smile and infectious laugh.  She was committed to those she knew, creative, bright, quick witted and loved a good adventure. We all respected the way that Marnie dealt with life's challenges, nothing slowed her down. Her spirit will continue to live on in all of those she touched.<br /><br />Anyone who knows Marnie and Todd knows they are always willing to help others, but never ask for help for themselves – EVER.  Even in their darkest hours, they kept her illness private and managed her treatments, symptoms, and side effects with positivity, courage, and hope. This family is STRONG, but they need our support. In Memory of Marnie

<p dir="ltr">Anyone who doesn't know Dena, she is a kind caring nurse, wife and mother of three.  She has dedicated her life to caring for others and now it is our turn to help care for her.  In 2015 Dena was diagnosed wtih colon cancer and went through surgery, radiation and chemo and was determined to be cancer free.  In December of 2016 she found out that her cancer had metastasized.  February 17, 2017 Dena had additional surgery and intra-abdominal chemo.  As most of you know even with health insurance co-pays can become unmanageable.   Due to numerous requests, I have created this gofundme site so those who want to help Dena and her family can easily show their support.

This is a fundraiser for a memorial bench for Council Rock Class of 1988.  This would be a spot in the park where any of us, graduates, friends and family, can take time to reflect on our experiences growing up in Pennsylvania and attending school together at a special time and place.  <br /><br />Those classmates we've lost, much too young, are the inspiration for the bench. <br /><br />Abbee Stein Thomas has already spoken with a park representative.  We may have a dedicated bench...or two-and possibly a tree, as well-depending on what funds are raised, and everyone's collective input.  The administration time may lead to the bench being completed as soon as June of this year.  <br /><br />All we need is a deposit to get started, and we'll keep you updated with the progress made.

<p>So, it has come to this. Many don't know what I, and subsequently my family, have been going through. I was an ICU nurse and worked through the Covid pandemic. It was a horrible time, to say the least. I left to do travel nursing. At some point, I developed anxiety so bad I was calling out, trying to get out of work, and thinking of ways to drive off the road and not hurt myself or my car too much, just so I didn't have to work. Call bells and the monitors were making me freeze in place. Crying every day while working. Finally, a manager pulled me aside and said, <b>you are in crisis and you need to get some help.</b> I took 3 months off to do a partial hospitalization program. I came very close to getting admitted to Horsham Clinic. I've been diagnosed with severe anxiety and PTSD. Long story short, I now work part-time for Home Care Nursing and I am now looking for a full-time position and am in therapy to help my anxiety. Those three months really set us back financially and now we are at the point where we cannot recover by ourselves. Our credit is so bad I cannot even get a loan or borrow any from my equity. Our heat pump broke last summer and we've been without heat or air conditioning. We've had estimates done and to get it replaced it's at least $10,000. <b>We just need some help and I'm embarrassed to even do this but I don't know what else to do.</b> Friends have helped, but it's beyond needing a few hundred dollars now. My husband gets disability and has a part-time job, but it isn't enough. Thank you for listening and please pray for us and help financially if you can.
