After 73 days in ICE detention, she was released and has safely returned to her family. We want to extend a massive, heartfelt thank you to every single person who donated, shared, and supported us. Because of your initial generosity, her legal fees were covered, her travel home was paid for, and her bills were kept current during her time away. We are profoundly grateful for this community. <br /><br />Now that Everlee is safe, she is focused on rebuilding. Earlier this month, they lost their beloved son, who took his own life on May 7th and now, just weeks later, their father Christopher Suiter has passed away in a fatal car accident going southbound on I-15 in Payson, UT on May 27th, 2025. It was not his fault, and they say he died on impact when another car going northbound lost control, crossed the median and hit him head on in his jeep.

As a child growing up in a small fishing village, he lost his leg below the knee in a tragic boating accident when it was struck by a propeller. Despite this life-altering injury, he pursued his education and eventually earned a college degree in the United States—where two of his children were born.

<div>Sebastian now faces two urgent challenges:

<li><strong>He needs a new prosthetic leg.</strong> His current one, which he has used for many years, is obsolete and no longer functional. A durable, custom-fitted replacement is essential for his mobility, dignity, and ability to work.

<li><strong>He must return to Papua New Guinea.</strong> Due to immigration limitations, Sebastian is no longer legally able to stay in the U.S. He is deeply grateful his cancer was discovered while he was here—in his remote village, it likely would have been a death sentence. Now he must go home, resolve the legal issues related to his children's citizenship status, and start over again.

<div><strong>A Vision Beyond Survival</strong>

<div>As Sebastian returns to PNG, he plans to launch a sustainable pig farming project to help smallholder farmers improve food security and build stable incomes. He will teach them how to transform sweet potato vines that are currently being discarded into usable feed, and introduce modern techniques and improved breeds. Eventually he plans to donate starter piglets to other families in his village.

<div>November 30th, 2022, Creed Leonard was struck by a car in a crosswalk while serving in the Boston, Massachusetts - Spanish-speaking mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Creed was thrown and suffered severe damage upon impact to the left side of his brain. Within an hour of being struck, Creed was on the operating table at Massachusetts General Hospital where doctors repaired bleeding from a skull fracture and also had to remove a large portion of the left side of his skull to repair additional bleeding and allow room for brain swelling.
</div>

</div>
<div>It is a testament to the miraculous and immediate response of first responders and doctors that Creed survived those first few fragile days and weeks.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Completely unresponsive for 21 days in the ICU, Creed’s eyes finally began to open and his left hand and leg began to move. His right side did not move. He could not talk or interact with others as the damage to the left side of the brain not only controls speech and communication but is also responsible for controlling the right side of his body.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>In the middle of January, doctors thought it best to replace and rebuild Creed’s skull in the hope that having the brain encased would help with the healing. Creed does have a device or a shunt in his head that allows excess fluid to be removed from around his brain. The shunt will be a permanent fixture in his brain and may need additional adjusting throughout his life.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The trauma to his brain was severe and even today’s CT scan (2/8/23), some two and a half months later, still identified bruising and swelling on his brain that needs to heal.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Brain injuries require a lot of patience, time and therapy. They are not sure if Creed can read, or how the injury has affected his memories, as he is often not sure of his surroundings. Creed will have to learn how to use a toothbrush, comb, speak, eat, and walk. In short, Creed has to relearn everything for daily living and therapy is essential in this relearning process. Doctors are hopeful that Creed will walk within a year with extensive therapy.
</div>

</div>
<div>Creed’s therapy will be extensive, including occupational therapy that focuses on activities of daily living; musical therapy to focus on his ability to talk and relearn creativity; speech therapy to help him formulate words, eat and socially communicate; and physical therapy to help strengthen his muscles and to help his right side become functional again.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>His mother and siblings, who have been right beside Creed from the day of his accident, will need to remain in Boston until Creed is strong enough and healed enough to return to Utah. They will continue renting an apartment in downtown Boston where Creed is located. His father needs to remain in St. George to work but will be traveling to Boston often to be with the family. These extra living and traveling expenses will create financial strains on the family at a time when they need to be focused on Creed and one another.
</div>

<div>As they move forward, it is clear that Creed will need continuous therapy for years to come. Potential items such as wheelchairs, walkers, a therapy bed, and numerous medical equipment items that they have not even learned about yet. They may also need physical adjustments to their home and a vehicle that will provide Creed with the necessary accommodations.
</div>

<div>It's not easy to ask for help and Marla and Chad have been grateful for the outpouring of love but hesitant to ask for financial help. They will need it and they need it now. <div>"Lake Restoration Solutions," the developers who are proposing to dredge Utah Lake, create man-made islands over 1/5th of it,  and then build housing on those islands, have run up against some formidable adversaries, including  BYU professor, Ben Abbott.  Abbott is an expert on  Utah Lake, having studied it extensively for many years.  Along with hundreds of local conservationists, scientists, engineers, natural resource managers, recreation managers and environmental lawyers, Abbott has been speaking out against the proposal, and with convincing expertise, has been contradicting Utah Lake Solutions' claims about health and well-being of the lake.

<div>Now, "Lake Restoration Solutions" is suing Abbott for $3 million, claiming defamation, false light, and intentional interference with prospective economic relations. The legal action constitutes a "SLAPP" suit --  "Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation." Utah law allows Abbott to file an "anti-SLAPP" suit against the company, but he will need some financial help to do so. We should help him.
