For the past year, she bravely battled cancer, and during that time, my dad stepped away from work to be by her side. He took 12 weeks of unpaid leave through FMLA, which left him with only one income and mounting of bills.

Her insurance covered only a small portion, leaving my dad with a heavy burden. He’s always been there for our family, and now he needs help to get through this difficult time.

He recently lost his job and has been looking for a new one, however the problem is that in the meantime, we only receive money once a month. I get monthly payments through disability. This has made it difficult to pay for our utilities, groceries, and of course, rent.

Somebody once said to me, "if all of your friends donated $25, you would reach your goal." We have a different goal this time, coming up with our rent, but I think that still applies. If everyone was willing to donate a little bit of money, $25 or otherwise, that would be amazing.

<div>I owe some medical bills from my emergency surgery in January 2025; I broke my back without knowing that it was broken for 8-9 months, I couldn’t walk and had to use mobility aids such as cane and walker. Luckily the emergency surgery helped me to walk again and be able to do life again. so I owe them some bills because my Medicaid/medicare did not cover all of them. I owe them about $8,958 but finally got less to about $4,500.

<div>I also owe FASFA $11,895 while I thought it was waved until I got bill that I missed the payments and will affect my credit. FASFA refused to wave my loans because they think I still have a job but no, I just lost job. They withheld my tax refunds and I will not be able to get tax refunds.

Help Recover from Job Loss and Owed Bills

I don't normally share my story, but <strong>I am currently struggling with my financial situation, especially living in California.</strong> My partner is helping me when I need but he has to take care of other things.

<div>When I look at my budget to prepare and save money for an emergency fund (shipping moving expenses-Pods, paying deposit for apartment, food, and flight), it seems impossible to save. This is because I pay rent for a one-bedroom apartment that costs $2480 plus fees, totaling around $2517 monthly. This leaves me with around $1000, which I use to pay for the internet, gas, electricity, and mobile bills. This leaves almost nothing for food shopping for the next 3 weeks. Also I don’t have a car to travel.

<div>Unfortunately, on March 20, HR informed me that <strong>my job will not renew the contract this fall</strong>. My job laid me off, which means that my job position is a long-term position. I moved to California 2 years ago from the east coast. My dream job was shattered. I went through a lot with an emotional rollercoaster. I was stressed finding jobs in California, Texas, or DMV. I applied for many job applications since May 2024, and I am unsure whether to stay here in California, continue living in my apartment before renewing the lease, or move to Texas or DMV.

<div>Right now, I don't have a job after August 2024. I will be moving out on August 10th.<strong> I am more inclined to move to Texas and possibly get jobs in Texas</strong>, which is more likely to get job interviews. The donation would be spent on moving expenses, food, and flight.

Transitioning With An Angel

Amy was told by her doctor that all of her treatment options have been exhausted. As Amy would like to spend time with her friends and people who love her, we have planned an Open House Celebration of Life event for her on Sept 19th. Amy has requested karaoke, tarot reading, a slide show and music. This event will be a celebration of Amy’s bright light! <br /><br />This event will be Open House style from 2 pm – 5 pm, drop in at a time that works for you. Keeping Amy’s favorite things in mind, we will have karaoke, tarot readings, and music. We will be sharing more information about the open house soon.<br /><br />Many people have asked how they can support Amy during this phase of her journey.
