Emergency Housing & Transportation Fund: Fresh Start for the Three Pawsketeers & Their Guardian Rideshare driver Lara, her service dog Spoti, and bonded kitty siblings Oreo and Felix need your help to stay together during an urgent housing transition! I'm Lara, and I’m navigating an urgent housing and transportation crisis complicated by serious safety concerns at my current residence. This situation is made more complex by my responsibility to my beloved critters - collectively known as 'The Three Pawsketeers' - who have been my constant companions through multiple moves: from Long Beach, up to the Bay Area, and finally to San Diego. Together, we've weathered every transition, supporting each other through thick and thin. Spoti, my service dog, despite approaching 14, maintains the vitality of a young pup - her activity tracker regularly shows her matching the energy levels of dogs in their prime! My bonded pair of 18-year-old sibling kitties, Oreo and Felix, have remarkable health for their age, though any major disruption at this stage could be particularly challenging for them. While Spoti adapts easily to new environments, accompanying me as my “Co-Pilot” on rideshare work and maintaining her remarkably young spirit, my kitties' well-being requires more delicate consideration. The prospect of separating this tightly bonded black and white trio after nearly two decades together would be devastating, particularly given their advanced ages where every day together is a gift. The urgency of this situation is heightened by concerning patterns of escalating aggressive behavior from building management toward various residents in my building. While not directed specifically at me, management's ongoing criminal proceedings and documented hostile incidents toward others have created an increasingly unstable environment. Recent events have escalated to involvement with law enforcement, including felony charges, yet aggressive outbursts continue to occur regularly in the building. This deteriorating atmosphere, combined with management's access to units and unpredictable behavior, creates an underlying safety concern that affects all residents' peaceful enjoyment of their homes. While I'm not a direct target, witnessing these escalating patterns has become a significant factor in considering temporary and possibly permanent relocation while these legal matters proceed through the courts. While these behaviors have not been directly targeted at me, management's actions regarding my own housing situation, combined with recent setbacks over the past several months, have created additional legal complexities that may require court intervention. The questionable nature of some management practices I've experienced personally, alongside my current challenges, has put my housing security at risk in ways that may need legal resolution. This crisis coincided with a major car engine failure in July. At the time, with a significant balance still owed on the vehicle, investing in a new engine at half cost seemed the most logical decision - essentially getting a new car for a fraction of the price, as the dealer offered to cover half the expense of a new engine. While I've already approved and completed the engine rebuild, the car remains at the shop requiring full payment before release. The vehicle is currently accruing $30 daily lot fees and faces potential auction if not retrieved soon - a catastrophic outcome as I rely on it for rideshare work and still owe on it plus the newly installed engine. Funds that I had set aside to cover this substantial expense have been channeled toward the more immediate need to secure a safer living environment. Given the time-sensitive nature of this situation, immediate assistance through loans or donations would be most beneficial, though I remain open to suggestions of any other viable quick-funding solutions. These current challenges follow a series of setbacks earlier this year, including the death of a close friend in January, and unexpected veterinary expenses due to tainted pet food (though eventually reimbursed) and a personal health relapse that impacted my income in April-May, which I overcame. However, just as I was regaining stability, the engine failure in July created another significant setback. These recent back-to-back setbacks compound the aftermath of being forced to leave a stable job position last year due to a workplace injury - a job that had provided consistent income and benefits to supplement my driving work. Unable to accommodate my injury in my position, my employer required a 'voluntary resignation' in exchange for job retraining opportunities and a modest settlement that was quickly depleted. While the retraining program is robust and offers numerous promising career paths that I've begun studying for, I cannot effectively pursue these opportunities until my housing situation stabilizes. I also manage an ADA-recognized autoimmune condition that, while currently in remission, can be severely aggravated by stress and potentially lead to serious health complications. This makes finding stable, suitable, temporary or possibly even permanent housing even more urgent, as a health relapse could significantly impact my ability to work and care for my pets. While I typically maintain my independence when in remission, a past assault several years back also left me with a broken left wrist and shoulder, which required extensive rehabilitation and caused lasting limitations. This, combined with arthritis in my right wrist, has significantly impacted my physical capabilities. Despite rehabilitation, the complex nature of shoulder injuries means I continue to experience restricted mobility and strength, particularly with lifting and reaching motions. These physical challenges, along with managing my disability, make the logistics of moving particularly challenging. Though I remain resourceful, tasks that I once handled independently now require additional support - whether through helping hands, professional moving services, or resources for packing materials and supplies. Any combination of assistance would be deeply appreciated as I navigate this housing transition. While I am also actively pursuing resources for working disabled individuals and investigating housing assistance programs, these take time to research and process. Without local family (all overseas) and being non-native to San Diego, my immediate support network is limited. Though I've lived here seven years, my hometown connections in LA are stronger but currently out of reach. And though I'm maintaining immediate cash flow income through rideshare driving, this was not my intended permanent career path. I'm actively pursuing promising virtual work opportunities, and actually secured a position in September with a nationally recognized organization that's currently on hold, as I cannot begin the required training and licensing process until this more urgent housing situation is resolved, as it requires focused attention I cannot give while managing these immediate challenges. Once I'm able to proceed, I've been assured I will be generating income within a week of completing the necessary requirements. This opportunity would provide both increased income stability and the ability to finally work from home, allowing me to be present with my pets during these precious senior years. This current housing crisis has drastically reduced my earning capacity, tho, as countless hours are now spent researching housing options and evaluating legal choices rather than generating income. While my rideshare income is quite good when I'm able to work at full capacity, the time demands of managing this situation have forced me to work only a fraction of my normal hours. Although driving provides flexible immediate income, relying on it as a sole source of long-term support carries inherent risks and physical demands. This makes transitioning to my pending virtual position even more crucial, but I cannot begin the required 2-3 week training until these immediate housing and transportation challenges are resolved. I have fortunately identified a temporary (and potentially permanent) affordable housing solution that would allow my Three Pawsketeers and I to stay together, though it's about two hours away from my current area. However, it will provide a safe, secure environment for our family unit, which I am very much looking forward to. The temporary nature of this situation adds another layer of complexity - matters at my current residence may resolve themselves positively through legal channels or require further adjustment. This uncertainty makes it crucial to maintain flexibility while ensuring immediate stability for myself and my Pawsketeers during this transition period. The outcome could range from a relatively quick resolution and a return to my residence, to a more extended legal process, which is why maintaining options for both temporary and longer-term solutions is essential. Immediate Financial Needs: 1. Housing Transition: $500-600/week Temporary housing costs Security deposits/fees Moving expenses Pet sitting services during transition 2. Vehicle Situation: ~$4,500+ Engine repair payment: ~$2880 Accumulated lot fees ($30/day since completion) Registration renewal: ~$400 Insurance reinstatement: ~$500+ Current car payment: $475-600 3. Temporary Transportation Current rideshare work rental vehicle costs: $330/week until my personal car is retrieved 4. Pet Care Buffer Emergency veterinary care fund Pet deposits for temporary housing Time-sensitive pet insurance enrollment before December Special needs accommodations for senior pets 5. Legal & Professional Fees Initial consultation: $300-500 Potential additional legal services 6. Emergency Buffer Fund Unexpected transition expenses Housing application fees Basic necessities during transition MOVING ASSISTANCE: For local connections willing to help with the transition: Loading/unloading assistance Caravan support for transport Storage unit organization Pet transport support Please message privately for scheduling coordination. I'm actively working to resolve this by: Maintaining temporary income through continued gig driving with a rideshare rental vehicle until I retrieve my vehicle Seeking legal guidance Researching temporary housing Researching and applying for disability and age-related supplemental income sources Planning for various possible outcomes While I welcome any information about assistance programs or resources I might have overlooked, the time-sensitive nature of this situation means that direct financial assistance through gifts or loans would be most immediately helpful. Due to these recent multiple setbacks my credit has been negatively affected making many traditional financing options currently unaccessible, so I am broadening my reach of potential financial assistance with this GoFundMe campaign. I welcome either gifts or loans - for those preferring a loan arrangement, I'm happy to draft a formal agreement. The fluid nature of this situation means funds will be applied to the most urgent needs as they develop, helping to prevent any aspects of this crisis from becoming catastrophic while working toward overall stability.
