Help save the TRUTH on Celilo Falls

<div>My name is Vanesa and I am Sally’s second oldest daughter. My mom passed away on November 9th, 2023. Our family is in shock. We are heart broken.

<div>Sally was taken to ER by my dad on October 25th, 2023 where she finally got admitted in the early morning hours of October 26th. Sally was being treated for a blockage. On the evening of the 26th, Sally had a sudden onset of immense pain and she felt like she was on fire inside her body. Throughout the night of the 26th, my mom’s vitals became unstable. My mom was taken in for emergency surgery in the early morning of October 27th.

<div>The 27th just so happened to be my parents 37th wedding anniversary. My dad rushed to the hospital but didn’t make it in time to see her before going into surgery. They said their “I love yous” and “Happy Anniversary” via facetime and that was the last time my parent would speak to eachother until November 3rd, 2023.

<div>Surgery found a perforated bowel that had gone necrotic (dead bowel) that had leaked into her body. My mom was in septic shock. My mom would spend the next 14 days in ICU fighting for her life. My mom was in complete organ failure. She miraculously had started to progress in the right direction. They eventually took her off sedation. She was doing dialysis. Her body was still weak. Things took a turn for my mom on the night of November 9th. Medical staff found her unresponsive. They intubated my mom and began life saving measures. My dad was the only one by her side. Myself and my two other sisters had been in Portland supporting our oldest sister in the birth of her fourth child. We had been torn in two directions. We knew our mom would have wanted us supporting our sister in Portland. Just four hours after the birth of my mom’s 6th grandchild, we had gotten a call from my dad. We were all on speaker phone as my dad entered the room and the doctor allowed us to say what we needed to say to our mom. Our dad was alone. After 17 minutes the doctors had to call it.

<p>The Totem represents several <strong>CRITICAL ISSUES THAT MUST BE ADDRESSED BY THE BIDEN-HARRIS ADMINISTRATION</strong>, including: <strong>Protecting Sacred Sites, Honoring Treaties, Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirits, Truth and Reconciliation, </strong>and<strong> Protecting Water.</strong>
</p>

<p><strong>It is my calling to speak Truth to Power, and I am uniquely qualified to speak about each of these issues.</strong>
</p>

<p>I am one of the last remaining survivors of my Mother's people, the <strong>Celilo Wy'am.</strong> We are a band of Columbia River Indians that <strong>refused to join the confederated reservations, and have therefore been denied our Federal rights to tribal sovereignty, self-determination, and the ability to practice our traditional way of life on our sacred lands and waters.</strong> We hold aboriginal title to <strong>Celilo Falls</strong>, a Sacred fishing site that was drowned and silenced by the Army Corps of Engineers when they dammed the Columbia River in 1957 -- <strong>a blatant violation of existing treaty negotiations.</strong> My people were separated, assimilated, and exterminated by boarding schools, institutions, and policies set by the United States government, and <strong>the slow genocide continues to this day.</strong>
</p>

<p>My father's people, the Cowichan of Vancouver Island, B.C., suffered through the traumatic <strong>Truth and Reconciliation</strong> process imposed on them by the Canadian Government. This effort caused more harm than healing to the First Nations people of Canada. We must not repeat these same mistakes in America. <strong>It is absolutely critical that Indigenous Voices lead Truth and Reconciliation efforts in the United States.</strong>
</p>

<p>My journey with <strong><a href="https://redroadtodc.org/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Red Road to DC</a> </strong> begins <strong>July 10</strong> on Vashon Island, WA, and we will arrive in our nation's capitol on <strong>July 29</strong>, where the totem will be displayed at the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian. This is an historic opportunity to <strong>TAKE ACTION</strong> and <strong>MAKE REAL CHANGE</strong>, especially with <strong>Deb Haaland - the first Native American Cabinet secretary - leading the Department of the Interior</strong>, which oversees the Bureau of Indian Affairs. <strong>THE TIME TO ACT IS NOW!<br /><br />THANK YOU FOR ANYTHING YOU CAN CONTRIBUTE!!!</strong>

Columbia River Indians is a make up of several fishing villages on the Columbia River, (Lone Pine, Lyle, Underwood, Bingen, Cloudsville to name a few,)  at this time there is no fishing, Extreme  Poverty is an issue<br />   Most have one common shower and kitchen. for several households,  there is no running water, nor is there eletricity. under these circumstances the need is great. there is a lack of resources locally<br />we are a hundred miles from any reservation and very isolated, lacking  mobility <br />, We are helping to make our folks aware of the dangers of covid 19 and how to protect and combat thru sanitation <br />there are alot of elders and children  and others with  pre existing health issues, we are a very vulnerable population.<br /><br />Please consider helping.  we thank you in advance<br />we will buy supplies of gloves, maskes, soap, hand sanitizer and bleach, and hand out flyers to inform of how to care for themselves.<br /><br />in the most recent past we have bought and distributed limited santitation supplies and food and garden starters and trees out of pocket and by donation

Columbia River Fishing Village Covid 19 Relief

As a minister of peace, love and healing, hope, at the American Indian Church of Truth and Reconciliation,  it  is been a long journey of self love, care and healing.   <br />I have been in complex PTSD counseling in Wa, been at the mercy of friends and church while healing.<br />  i have been met with challenge after challenge, my home in Oregon the electricity is been off for months,  (stressful) internet too(I need for my work and ministry)<br /> i volunteer for a local food bank, and also at community meals in WA, a commitment that is also a part of my healing, a commitment i take seriously and desire to continue on with.<br />recently my grandson is been in ICU in Portland, my love is been a part of his healing and speedy recovery i have been traveling back and forth with zero income,Ihumblyaskforyourhelp
