My name is Kristen, and I am a black belt in Shotokan Karate. For years, I’ve trained with quiet determination — early mornings, late nights, pushing through setbacks, and trying to become just a little better each day. At a tournament in November 2025, something incredible happened. I not only earned first place in sparring, but was also named Grand Champion. That victory opened a door I never imagined I’d walk through: an invitation to represent my dojo and my country at the ICO World Championships in France in October, 2026. To be honest, it still feels surreal. Part of me wonders if I’m truly good enough — that’s something I wrestle with more than any opponent. But I’ve learned that courage isn’t about never doubting yourself; it’s about stepping forward anyway. This journey means more than just competing. It’s about proving to myself — and maybe to others — that discipline, perseverance, and heart can take you farther than fear ever could. Getting to France will take financial help for international travel, lodging, in-country travel, food, and competition fees. If you’d like to be part of this journey, your support will mean more than words can express. Every contribution, big or small, brings me one step closer to representing our community on the world stage. Thank you for believing in me, even on the days I question myself. I’ll carry that belief with me — all the way to France.
