Update  6/16/2021 This update is breaking our hearts, April Heileman has taken a turn for the worst last week and is in the ICU. She is no longer a candidate for a liver transplant as of yesterday. The cancer has started to spread and the liver disease has progressed to the final stage.  The funds raised will be used to keep her comfortable in her final days, help pay for medical and any final expenses.  We want to thank everyone that reached out to help our precious daughter, words can not thank each of you nor express how grateful the family is.  Each prayer, each share, and dollar donated means more than words can say. Our 37-year-old daughter April Heileman has to have a liver transplant surgery. The Doctors have put it in very blunt terms that if she doesn't come up with insurance or over $400,000 for the surgery she will not make another two months. After her second fight of COVID over the Christmas Holiday and all the health complications from her liver over the last year on top of a diagnosis of cancer, insurance was canceled (just when you need it the most!).   At her young age with her whole future ahead of her, she is in the fight of her life with the cancer and liver complications.  The doctors are saying the liver damage was most likely caused by the medications she took for years. It could have been one or the combination of the medications she was taking, we will never know. Ones that know me know I am not one to reach out and ask for help much less money from anyone but I cannot see losing my daughter at such a young age.  Please if you can help any amount would be gratefully appreciated. I will be keeping this page updated as we head down this short but hard journey to reach the dollar goal for April in such a short time period. Please every dollar adds up! Help April Heileman's Liver Transplant Surgery...

For the next week, we'll be sharing the stories of Rohingya refugees on Humans of New York.  Nearly 700,000 refugees have arrived in Bangladesh over the past several months, having been violently expelled from their homes by Buddhist extremists in Myanmar.  They have experienced and witnessed many atrocities.  Most of these refugees have settled in two sprawling camps just over the border: Kutupalong and Balukhali.  While aid agencies such as the UNHCR are doing their best to cope with the humanitarian crisis, most refugees are provided with only the basics they need to survive.   <img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/28133496_15200939200_r.jpeg" alt="28133496_15200939200_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" /> Monsoon season is quickly approaching in Bangladesh, so we’re raising money to help build durable shelter for these refugees.  Almost every refugee is currently living in a plastic tent.  When the monsoons arrive, these tents will provide almost no protection from the elements.  And because the camps have been deforested, there are no roots to hold the soil in place-- so even the ground will be washed away.   The houses we are helping to build are special.  They are made of bamboo.  They have two bedrooms, which will allow a small degree of privacy and dignity for large families.  They have a kitchen area.  These things sound simple, but under the current conditions, they represent a huge leap in comfort and security.  Each house costs around $630 to build.  The houses can hold a family of six people, and will be assigned to the most vulnerable of families as identified by the UNHCR.      <img class="not-resizable" src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/28133496_1520185115.2537_funddescription.jpg" alt="" width="100%" />   The houses have been designed and built by Love Army: a wonderful idea/organization created by my friend Jerome Jarre.  Together with a band of YouTube creators and social media influencers, Love Army raised over $2 million to help Rohingya refugees.  After the fundraiser, Jerome stopped posting on social media and has quietly spent the last several months on the ground in Bangladesh.  I'm very proud and impressed by his work.  Love Army has partnered with the American Refugee Committee and local NGOs such as OBAT Helpers to make sure that every dollar is spent in the most effective way.  The houses are being built by refugees themselves, so even the labor costs are funneled back into the community.  All of Love Army’s overhead costs are covered through privately sourced funds, which means 100% of your donations will go directly to the construction of houses! Houses For Rohingya Refugees

My brother Shawn would never create this on his own and that is why I have decided to. On the night of January 29, 2014, the kitchen in our family residence where he and his family live, caught fire. My brother and his family were lucky to get out of the house in time. The house is really far out in the country and once his family was safe, my brother was able to put the fire out. Unfortunately the kitchen is a complete loss, including all the contents; and most of their belongings in the house are smoke damaged. We have started the process with insurance, but that will be a long process. Currently my brother and his family are staying in San Antonio and commuting to Floresville for work and school. My hopes in this fundraiser is to off-set all these extra expenses my brother and his family now face as they piece things back together. Also, I want for them to be able to replace certain things as soon as possible while they wait for the insurance to process. Everyone who knows Shawn and Charlee will tell you that both would do anything to help a friend or family member or even stranger out, even if they don't have the means to. Our family would greatly appreciate any support or donations and every little bit helps.
