<div>I started this fundraiser after I went to the ER in late August 2025 so I'd be ready if my brain cancer progressed. I never wanted to share it with anyone, and I hate that it's come to this. But glioblastoma isn't called "the most malignant brain cancer" because it's a push-pop on a hot summer walk in the park.

<div>Unfortunately, it's progressed; an MRI on Wednesday, July 8, 2026 revealed a new 17mm tumor on my Corpus Callosum. This means I'm out of the very promising clinical trial I was in, and the new best option is a multi-pronged attack to include: surgery (if possible), spinal tap, more radiation, wearing an Optune on my head 24/7, and custom peptide/dendritic vaccine therapy currently only available in Europe and very expensive, both for the treatment and traveling for administration.

<div>I originally went to the ER in late August, 2025, because my right side wasn't working. An MRI found a 2.9cm tumor in my left temporal lobe. A brilliant emergency surgery on 9/2/25 resulted in a gross total resection, but the genetic tumor testing revealed it's Glioblastoma, a malignant brain cancer for which there is no cure. Yet.
</div>

</div>
<div>I was fortunate to get into an expanded access protocol of a clinical trial drug called SurVaxM that has shown a good deal of success in early trials. Being in an EAP meant I was guaranteed to get the drug, not a placebo. Things were going great until my July 9th MRI revealed a tumor progression--a new 17 mm growth in my corpus callosum, the part of the brain that connects the two hemispheres.

</div>
<div>I'll begin new treatment(s) this week. I'll also be sending tumor samples to an advanced customized treatment center in Germany, where they'll identify numerous biomarkers in my tumors genetic code that offer potential attack vectors. Over the next 4 to 6 months, they'll craft, refine, and manufacture a customized set of immunotherapies designed to train my immune system to attack my specific tumor.

</div>
<div>One of the many reasons glioblastoma is so hard to treat is that it hides itself from the immune system and it's hard to get treatments past the blood-brain barrier. This German Clinic is doing great work and will begin clinical trials for FDA approval stateside very soon.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>However, it won't be soon enough for me, and there's no guarantee that I would meet all of the eligibilities for the clinical trial anyway. I need to get the manufacturing underway ASAP so I can get the immunotherapies injected ASAP.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>This analysis and manufacturing of customized treatments in Germany and subsequent administration in Lithuania is going to be very expensive, and it's going to mean I'm missing a lot of work.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>It also means I'll be missing a lot of watching my boys grow up. They're five and eight now, and they'll be six and nine before I know it. I'm determined to watch them grow up, be a father and a font of unconditional love, work until I retire, experience empty-nest syndrome and grow old with Megan.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>And so I humbly, gratefully, and desperately ask for your help. I've been in inpatient rehab and then day rehab since 3 days after my surgery. I've been working incredibly hard and made great progress. I've even gotten back out on the golf course and got certified for adaptive golf, and played in two adaptive golf tournaments this summer.

<div>I'm receiving a "Bravery Award" from Chicago's biggest brain tumor charity, brain up, at their annual 5K walk run in September, which I believe is the glioblastoma equivalent of being knighted. I won't make you call me "Sir Cully", though (unless you really want to).

<div>I've been walking without a cane since January and made a ton of progress that I want to build on, not watch crumble away.
</div>

<div>The Marsdens live in Red Oak, IA, where severe weather hit a couple of days ago. High winds knocked some tree limbs onto a power line, and the Marsden home caught on fire. The main fire damage is to the upstairs rooms, but the entire house is damaged to the extent that it is not livable at this time. They are temporarily living with Terra's parents while decisions are being made on what to do with their house.

<div>This disaster struck at a difficult time. Many of their personal items in the house are damaged and possibly not recoverable, so they will need to be replaced. Lily graduated and hosted her graduation party 2 days after the storm, and will now go through the extra expenses of starting college life.

In the year 2005, when my girls were little, I was struggling to pay the bills and provide for them. Not even three jobs where enough to support my daughters. It was then that I made the decision to move to Chicago. It was a difficult journey to leave behind my family and my home, but it was the best I could do for my girls. Two years later, in 2007, I decided my daughters needed to experience the life change I experienced when I moved to Chicago. I arranged for them to be brought from our home town to Chicago with me.

<div>We build a life in Chicago. My girls went to school and grew up right in front of my eyes. After many years in Chicago I thought this would always be our home. A place full of memories and lessons. All of that changed when Donald Trump got elected to be president and then re-elected.

<div>Trump's presidency has made me realized that while we've had a good life in Chicago, we have not planned for the future and, in fact, live in a very unstable situation. For that reason we want to find a place where we belong and where we can have a home that is ours.

<div>Our dear Amy Anderson will be undergoing brain surgery this week and it would be nice to raise a few bucks to help ease the pain of her recovery. Doc says her brain is far too big for her skull and as a result of this is becoming too smart and witty for this human world. Recovery time is going to be between two-eight weeks. Amy will have to go on short-term disability resulting in a 60% pay cut until she can return to work.

<div>Renee was never a massive fan of the formal and detached nature of a solemn memorial service or funeral. She had said for years that she didn’t want a sad event in her honor when her time came. She wanted a party where all of her loved ones could come together and share stories, eat great food, dance, and remember her with tears of laughter and smiles on their faces. With that in mind, we want to throw a Beach Bash Crawfish Boil that lives up to her larger-than-life memory. The kind of party that she would have loved.

<div>I am a friend of Taylor Gavin, attempting to help her get financial support during this difficult time. While visiting Las Vegas, Taylor got drunk and took an uber alone to her hotel and passed out in the car. When she woke up, her driver was on top of her, strangling her- she could not move. He raped her and then threw her out of the car naked, which was caught on surveillance cameras. She went to the hospital and got a rape kit done. Her toxicology report found that she had been roofied. The perpetrator was put into custody, and Taylor hoped to receive justice from Uber for allowing this horrific crime to happen.

<div>In just a week, the trial was set to occur when Taylor's detective called and said that the perpetrator had killed himself in custody a month earlier (information that was withheld from her until right before the trial). Her case was dropped, and her hopes for justice now seem slim. We are working on getting the compensation that Taylor deserves and, in the meantime, hope that you will contribute funds for Taylor’s therapy, medication and legal fees. Together we can help Taylor heal and hold Uber accountable.

It’s been a process but I’m finally beginning to almost feel “normal” and every day is a step towards becoming a badder, stronger more empowered woman.<br /><br />I am sharing all this to say that the struggles I’m facing in finding a safe affordable place to move at times makes me feel worthless and like I don’t deserve a HOME to feel safe and secure in. I know it’s not true, but that’s how I feel.<br /><br />So friends in real estate what’s a Queen to do ? Beacuse this one ain’t worthless and deserves a CASTLE!<br />

The lives at risk of the injustice being fought against are also the most vulnerable to COVID-19. Many will not be in position to pay the inevitable cost associated with their brave efforts. This fund is to assist those that contract this disease while protesting and other protest related injuries as many are being attacked while speaking out. <br /><br />We haven't been able to get ahead of COVID-19 thus far,  but this is certainly another step in the right direction!<br /><br />Funds will assist with:<br /><br />- Testing in relation to COVID-19<br /><br />- Treatment/hospital bills as related to COVID-19<br /><br />- Injuries obtained while protesting<br /><br />-  Bail relief and/or court expenses for protestors. <br /><br />Black Lives Matter! In the beginning of this epidemic people were told not to congregate in spaces of over 250, so we took precautions and made our 140 seat theater into an 85 seat theater. We moved tables 6ft apart and sat people away from each other. Our fans were so appreciative - especially families. All other options for entertainment were closing down. <br /><br />As things got worse, we made the tough decision to not take any chances and close down until we felt like it would be safe enough for our loyal fans, our actors and our staff. That decision has now impacted 60+ actors, as we are one of the only paying comedy gigs in the city and many rely on us as part of their income. It impacted our teachers who can no longer teach or receive that pay. It impacted our music directors, stage managers, box office staff, bartenders - everyone. <br /><br />That's why we are coming to you today. We know a lot of people are asking for help right now, and we respect that. <strong>We are asking each of our fans to donate $5</strong> - if we share it with enough people we can hit our goal. <strong>Your donation will go toward getting some needed pay to our actors and staff most affected by this</strong>...our bartenders that can not work, our staff that used this to pay rent - those people. <strong>Eleanor (Nora) Leonard</strong> is 16 years old and was diagnosed with <strong>cancer</strong> in the liver and lungs at the end of August  2018. The medical term is Hepatocellular Malignant Neoplasm. We are her parents - <strong>Kelly</strong> <span style="font-weight:900;">Leonard and Anne Libera</span> - and we’ve spent our adult lives training, hiring, directing and producing generations of comedy talent at <strong>The Second City in Chicago.</strong><br /><br />Nora is kind and talented; fierce and loving. LeeAnna was diagnosed with brain cancer in January of 2018 after having a craniotomy in December of 2017. She fought the disease hard having another craniotomy in October of 2018 and a shunt placement. Even through all of the surgeries and different chemo treatments LeeAnna never gave up and her personality that many came to love, even strangers meeting her for the first time, shined through. She was a wonderful person that would brighten any room that she was present in and had the wonderful talent of being a great comedian on stage. She pursued those dreams and stayed her course up until the final days still making her jokes having put on a show at Second City called "When Life Gives You Cancer Make Comedy". This was the second of two shows centered on her cancer with the first being performed in the summer after her diagnosis called "It's My Cancer and I'll Laugh If I Want To". She was a wonderful woman and I can never write enough on how much she meant to me and changed my life. I will miss her terribly and I can only hope she knew how much she meant to me. The costs of her final services are a bit difficult for me to handle on my own and that is why I am asking today for help. Any amount will help me and even if the total reaches ten dollars I will be grateful for the generosity. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

LeeAnna's Farewell

If you've met Brenda Black, you've most likely been encouraged by her, drawn to her bright smile, and giggled together.  She's a wife, mom, sister, daughter, and aunt and was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer in October.  This diagnosis came as a surprise and a shock as this cancer is aggressive and can be difficult to treat.  However, Brenda is a strong fighter and needs your help!<br /><br />Shortly before her diagnosis in October, Brenda's husband Ted, went through an unexpected job change when the company where he worked for years shut down the office in their hometown of Red Oak, IA.  Thankfully, he was blessed with another job, but his commute is two hours a day.  <br /><br />Ted and Brenda have three sons in their 20's.  Brad and Nick live in California and Aaron lives in Council Bluffs.  Currently, Brenda is working as much as she can, but the strain of treatments is exhausting and work is becoming more difficult.  <br /><img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/36002648_1546904987368354_r.jpeg" alt="36002648_1546904987368354_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" /><br />Brenda has already undergone surgery twice and is now going through chemotherapy and then radiation.  She feels strong some days and has many moments where encouragement is needed and appreciated.  Any dollar amount given will go towards the medical costs to pay for the surgeries, chemo, radiation, and office visits as well as the expenses of traveling out of town for medical visits.  <br /><img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/36002648_1546905080196074_r.jpeg" alt="36002648_1546905080196074_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" /><br /><br />Please consider donating and please be praying for Brenda's total healing and strength for her and her family.  Every prayer, encouraging word, dollar amount, and kind gesture is greatly appreciated.  Let's help Brenda kick this cancer in the rear this year!<br /><br />With love and gratitude,   <br />The Family of Brenda Black

We're not always ready for the next steps we need to take.  But we keep moving forward because we have to. <br /><strong>Because we have friends who love us. </strong><br /><strong>Because we love ourselves</strong>. <br /><br />This past Sunday night, I was <strong>sexually assaulted</strong> by an <strong>aggressive, toxic, abusive person</strong> who is very close to someone I live with. Their closeness has become a <strong>threat to my safety</strong>. <br />I wasn't fully believed when I said what happened. I was left in a bar, not knowing if this <strong>predator</strong> would be in my apt when I returned. <br /><br />I <strong>can</strong> support myself rent-wise as I continue to work, but I was <strong>not prepared financially</strong> to move out on a moment's notice.  <br /><br />Things I need help with: <br /><br />- $100 to break my lease <br /><br />- $300 for movers to get me the F out <br /><br />-$1,500 for new rent/move in fees.<br /><br />-$300-500 for Nov. rent @ old place, since I am not giving much notice. <br /><br />It's difficult finding a place to accept my wonderful pitbull, Bruce, and myself.  But <strong>I will do whatever it takes so we can live and sleep safely without fear, without compromising self-respect</strong>.  <br /><br /><strong>Any amount helps</strong>. <br />Tips on places/landlords who accept pits. <br />Words of support. <br />Extra rooms/sublets for temp. 3 month stay, but ideally I want my own place so this can be done with.<br /><br />***If you made it this far, <strong>thank you.</strong>*** <br />I have been a <strong>survivor</strong> of sexual assault and harrassment since I was 13. <br /><strong>This is not new</strong>. <br />But my willingness to share my experience <strong>is</strong>. <span style="font-size:1.0625rem;">My name is LeeAnna (Lea) Ciastko. I had a craniotomy December 27th, 2017 to remove a brain tumor. Unfortunately, 2 new brain tumors grew back. My MRI on September 27th, 2018 showed a new tumor (close to the original), a second new tumor (in the middle of my brain), some tumor cells in the lining of my brain, and finally tumor cells at the end of my spine (due to the movement of spinal fluid through my brain). Thankfully, I had a successful craniotomy on October 2nd, 2018 in order to remove the operable tumor (the one close to the original spot). I have yet to meet with my radiation oncologist and my primary oncologists to discuss my new form of radiation therapy and chemotherapy. I am hoping to do that within the next 6 weeks, my surgery recovery period.</span><br /><br /><img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/33521012_1538784958206594_r.jpeg" alt="33521012_1538784958206594_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" /> My primary oncologists told me the original goal of my cancer treatments was to cure my cancer, but now since it has progressed, the new goal of my new cancer treatments is to keep my cancer at bay, so I can live longer. When asked about an amount of time, one of my primary oncologists said, given his experience with this form of tumor, to measure my time in “years,” would be more on the optimistic side. <br />Well, I’m a total optimist and I plan on doing everything within my power to help myself both physically, and mentally! After my first craniotomy, I did a solo standup show at a Second City Training Center Theater that I called, “It’s My Cancer and I’ll Laugh If I Want To.” This time around, I want to put on a different solo standup show called, “When Life Gives You Cancer, Make Comedy!” I truly believe I am lucky and I want to spend my time doing what I love the most, which is making people happy. My Brain Tumor Grew Back

PREACH! has been selected to perform in the LA Diversity in Comedy Festival at The Second City Hollywood!!  11 revolutionary Chicago hybrid performing and spoken word artists band together to lift each other up with the gospel of spoken word and sketch comedy, while chasing the dream and raging against the machine. PREACH! Is a fiery collective of poets/comedians that spit the truth to liberate the youth!$2000 will go towards our airfare, hotel, food, and transportation while we're in LA for the duration of the festival in mid October. HELP PREACH Hollywood Swing to LA

I have suffered from chronic migraines for years. This past Wednesday, I had a seizure at work where it was discovered that I had been living with a 5cm brain tumor. I had a craniotomy Friday, December 29th and was discharged from the hospital Sunday, December 31st (New Year's Eve!) Even though this was not how I had imagined ringing in The New Year, I feel like the luckiest person in the world. I'm thankful to have had my seizure in a safe environment with friends and coworkers around me, rather than on my walk home alone from the train that night. The nuerosurgeon said I should be in recovery for 6 weeks and I am determined to remain hopeful and  positive while I recover. Within that time, I am hoping to raise $10,000 in order to help with my medical bills and cost of living expenses. Brain Tumor Surgery Bills  

As a lot of you may know, Buddy was attacked by multiple pit bulls on Saturday night (3/18). Since then he has been at a pet hospital recovering. He had a 5 hour surgery the night of the attack to clean and sew his wounds, then on Monday he had some problems with his catheter and had to go back under for that. At this point the EARLIEST Buddy will be able to come home is Wednesday if everything else goes according to plan. As you can imagine, the Medical bills are getting pretty high, right now the estimate is almost to $10,000 through the remainder of his stay. The owners of the dogs that have attacked Buddy, have taken full resposibility for the incident and have told us that they would like to pay for as much of the medical bills as they can. Chris and I, struggling with money ourselves, know this is not something that is easy to deal with and know that coming up with an extra $10,000 is not something that just happens. They have already paid for half of the bill and are working to get together money for the second half but we would like to help them if we could. Any little bit will help. We understand how crazy it is to spend $10,000 on a "pet" but those who know Buddy, know he is so much more than that. Buddy is worth every single penny to be saved. He is the smartest dog we have ever met and we are so luck to have him in our family. Thank you in advance for helpping us out. We love you all!
