<div><strong>Last year Xochil's world was flipped upside down when she had a stroke.</strong> What followed was a stretch of unemployment in the household, a stolen credit card (that the bank is refusing to cover!), and the endless onslaught of regular ass life expenses, which are more expensive than they have ever been in our lifetime.

<div>Even with insurance and despite both she and her husband working full-time and doing all they can, <strong>the reality is that the medical bills which exceed $11,000 have now made paying for life impossible. </strong>Everything has been leveraged -- a lien on the car, maxed out credit cards to cover basic expenses. And there are simply no other resources coming in.

<div>Kelli is moving. Again. This will be her fifth move in five years, and this one came up fast. Life threw another curveball, and now she’s packing up her home with very little time, trying to find a soft place to land near her kids and rebuild what she’s had to let go of—again.

Help Kelli Rebuild After 5 Moves in 5 Years

<div><strong>What Happened?</strong>

<div>At the end of June, I was let go from work, largely due to several ongoing health issues I've been dealing with. I have finally made the difficult decision to take this opportunity during my time off to address these issues now. I feel that if I neglect my health &amp; instead try to return to work immediately, I will only get worse &amp; be right back where I started.
</div>

<div><strong>What’s The Plan?</strong>
</div>
<div>1) Two joints of my left pinky finger have not healed properly from a recent surgery. I just underwent another surgery at UW's Hand, Wrist, &amp; Elbow Bone &amp; Joint Surgery Center. One of these joints was rebuilt with cartilage from my wrist &amp; the other joint had a pin placed in it. Recovery will take 6 weeks in a soft forearm splint with limited use of my index finger &amp; thumb. I’ll be making a few follow-up visits back to UW with 3 months of physical therapy in Wenatchee.

<div>2) Each of my feet have several fibromas, both in the arch &amp; forefoot, which make it difficult for me to walk or stand for longer periods. In the coming weeks, I am scheduled to have one of the feet operated on, then the other. Each foot will take about four weeks of recovery in a soft boot. Both surgeries will be performed through the Foot &amp; Ankle Center in Wenatchee.

<div>3) In August, I have an appointment at Swedish with a colorectal surgeon to determine the likelihood of surgery (from a previous surgery repair) on part of my lower GI tract because its overall integrity has progressively worsened over the last two decades, making treatment now medically necessary.

<div>4) In August, I also see an eye, ear, nose, &amp; throat specialist to run diagnostic tests to help determine why I continue to have trouble sleeping at night &amp; feeling fatigued during the day, despite using a CPAP machine. Given an already diagnosed narrowed airway, removal of tonsils, adenoids, &amp;/or nasal polyps may be discussed.
</div>

<div>5) Finally, I have another UW appointment in December through their Post Covid Rehab Clinic. I hope to find some solutions to the remaining debilitating symptoms I still experience after testing positive in June 2022, particularly post-exertional malaise &amp; high intolerance to heat exposure.
</div>

<div>My plan is to have these issues addressed by the New Year. I understand this a lofty goal, but I am committed to making my health my number one priority. As one friend put it to me, “if you don’t have your health, you have nothing.” By the time the New Year arrives, I plan to be underway in my search for employment.
</div>

<div><strong>How Can I Use Support?</strong>
</div>
<div>While most of my direct medical expenses will be covered through my health insurance, there are many indirect expenses I could use support with. This is particularly true because I will be unemployed as I recover healthwise: transportation to &amp; from medical providers (especially in the Seattle area), monthly rent, groceries (I do already use an EBT card for some of my groceries), monthly electric &amp; cell bills, hygiene items, nonprescription medications (my prescription medications are covered), medical supplies &amp; equipment, &amp; other living or health-related extraneous expenses.

<div>I also know there are other ways to support than just financially: by giving one’s time, expertise, thoughts/prayers, etc. In whatever way it may look, thank you immensely for your support during this challenging time. Support Phil's Journey to Health and Recovery

<div>In the early morning hours of February 25th, the home of Kara Close and Adam Sawyer accidentally caught on fire. By the time the blaze was extinguished, the home was almost completely gone along with everything in it. Tragically, Kara and her cat Lela were in the home at the time. Adam was on the road for work and was thankfully spared his life.

<div>Unfortunately, this horrific event has left Adam without his beloved life partner Kara, his favorite pet, Lela, and their home, lovingly known as “Whiskey Jane,” along with almost all of its contents. This Go Fund Me page was created with the hopes of mitigating his financial loss and helping him to begin the process of building a new life.

<div>While not all costs are known at this point, the immediate needs would be things like clothing, various household items, and other day-to-day needs. Beyond that, while he luckily has a place to stay at his mother’s apartment, a new home or housing will need to be secured at some point. The home was potentially uninsured, but we don’t know for certain at this time. Regardless, there will be cleanup costs of the property and any associated expenses.

<div>As Adam would and has helped us out in our times of need, we are asking for friends, family, or anyone moved by Kara and his story, or this unfathomable tragedy to donate what they comfortably can to help in recovery.

Help Adam Recover

It is with the heaviest of hearts that I must tell you that one of the true lights of the world has gone out.  On Monday, May 24th, my dear friend, Carollee, was struck by a careless driver while crossing the street only a block from home.  For two days she fought, but on Wednesday the 26th she took her final breaths with her beloved husband, John, by her side.<br /><br />Just 26 years old, Carollee dreamed of being a mother and raising a family with John.   But being a type 1 diabetic that would not come easy.  With the endless help, love and support of John she was able to bring her A1C done into the normal range making it safe for them to start a family.  They got this amazing news exactly one month before their 3rd anniversary.  No one could have imagined that just 5 days later she would be gone.<br /><br />Despite this tragedy, Carollee touched and changed so many lives.  To hear John tell it, she saved him from despair and gave him a reason to live.  But more importantly she made him want to be a better person, and a better Christian.  For my part,  when I came out, she was one of my staunchest allies.  She would jump to my defense whether I was there or not.  She may have been a small thing, but if you attacked someone she loved, God help you.  <br /><br />But the best story of Carollee's love and generosity is the one about her sandwich man.  As a cashier at Walmart, Carollee saw thousands of customers each week, many of them rude and abusive.  No one would have blamed her if she had become callus to the strife of others.  But she never let that happen.  There was a man who was obviously down on his luck that would come into the store just trying to buy the makings of a simple sandwich.  Carollee would see him counting  his change to see if he could afford to eat that day.  Carollee never hesitated to pay the difference from her own pocket when he got up to her register.  And when covid hit, security wouldn't even let him in the store because he didn't have a mask to wear.  Carollee wouldn't let that stand.  She bought him not one but several masks so he could keep coming into the store to get what he needed to make a sandwich.<br /><br />But with the tragic loss of Carollee, John is left with not only his pain and grief, but also the ever mounting expenses of Carollee's funeral and memorial expenses, the massive hospital bills, and the cost of picking up the pieces of a shattered life and trying to build a new life for himself.  All donations will first go to pay for Carollee's final expenses and medical bills.  Anything over and above that will go towards helping John grieve and giving him the time he needs to figure out how to move forward.<br /><br />Any and all donations you make are extremely appreciated.  And whether you can make a financial donation or not, please share this far and wide.  Thank you.

It's promising in that he wouldn't be eligible for this surgery if he hadn't done all the good, hard work from last year, cultivating an inner landscape that makes HAI surgery a viable option. He'll have a hockey-puck sized pump installed under the skin of his belly which connects to the hepatic artery with a thin tube. The pump delivers concentrated chemotherapy directly to liver tumors. He'll have several days recovery at OHSU, and then will be taking it easy (John Waller style). No lifting of fat cats! He will begin chemotherapy a few days after Thanksgiving and then will receive another treatment every 2 weeks for the next 6 months. He is being supported in Portland by a core team of friends who are managing his home needs, transportation, nutrition, and other critical aspects of his care. <br /><br />How others can help: There are so many costs associated with cancer management that aren't covered by insurance. We don't know the full scope of those costs yet, so this fundraising goal may change. On August 30 Logan Karli Nettleton was murdered in Portland, OR. She has left behind family, countless friends,  and her four year old son, King Assuman. We will always remember Logan as the talented, smart, beautiful and kind woman she was- she was strong and wise beyond her years. In our mourning for Logan and her family we would like to invite you to contribute to  funeral and memorial expenses and for support for her son, King. His mother’s beauty and spirit surrounds him.
