I have been living with mold in my apartment for the past four months while also managing lupus, and I’m asking for help so I can pay my current rent and move to a safer place as soon as possible.
This situation started after a flood-related issue that was handled improperly. I’ve lived here for four years and had never had a problem paying my rent before this. Since then, I have been dealing with ongoing neglect from my landlord. After months of begging for help and going to doctor appointments, only part of the issue was corrected. My attorney had me work to gather and send proof to try to get a reduction in my rent because the apartment was not considered livable, but in the end, all that was done was getting the eviction dismissed, and I have been left to deal with the rest on my own. An eviction filing against me was dismissed, but I am still left trying to catch up and get out of an apartment that is not safe for my health.
The mold has affected my lungs, triggered lupus flare-ups, and caused me to miss a lot of work. Some mornings, I cannot even walk down my stairs without immediately needing a breathing treatment. I’m on multiple medications every day just to try to manage what this has done to my health. Losing work has turned this into an ongoing financial strain, and it has become harder to keep up while also trying to move.
I do not have family to rely on, and moving is even more complicated because I have three dogs and two cats depending on me too. Right now, the funds from this fundraiser will go toward paying off the rent where I live now and covering moving costs so I can get into a healthier place.
If you’re able to help, whether through a one-time donation or recurring support, it would mean so much to me. Ongoing support would help me keep up with rent and moving-related costs while I am missing work and trying to get somewhere safe. If you cannot donate, sharing my fundraiser would also make a real difference. Thank you for supporting me through this.
