I have known Maurine Starkey—Mo to her friends—since 1992. Over the years, we worked together at Strategic Simulations, later again at Electronic Arts, and again at Olde Skuul. I have watched Mo’s talent, dedication, and grit up close for decades. Mo is a gifted computer game artist and illustrator, one of those rare creatives who never really stops making things. Pen, paintbrush, mouse—whatever the tool, she keeps creating. That is just who she is. Mo also won the Best Fan Artist Hugo Award in 2011, a well-earned recognition of the imagination, skill, and heart she has brought to her work for years. And now she needs help.

 For the past year, Mo stepped away from her own life to move in with Rebecca Heineman to work on Olde Skuul and instead ended up as a full-time caregiver for Becky as she battled cancer. She gave her time, energy, and heart to caring for someone she loved. Recently, that battle came to an end. While grieving the loss of her dear friend, Mo has also been hit with a second devastating blow: because her housing was tied to the person she was caring for, she has now lost her home. That is the hard truth of it. Mo is facing displacement at a moment when she should be allowed to mourn, breathe, and figure out her next steps with some dignity.

 Mo is 70-something, close to the age where most people would be retiring—or at least slowing down—but she does not really know how to stop creating. She is still working, still making art, still showing up. But right now, talent and determination are not enough to solve an immediate housing crisis. We are asking for help to give Mo a real safety net and a stable place to land. Funds raised will go toward safe, immediate housing, moving and storage costs for her artwork and personal belongings, and basic living expenses while she gets back on stable ground. If you know the game art, digital art, or fan art communities, you know people like Mo helped build the creative worlds so many others now work and thrive in. She has spent a lifetime making beauty and giving care. Now it is our turn to show up for her.

<div>Luanne has dedicated nearly her entire adult life to public libraries, working tirelessly to expand free access to information, technology, and essential services for library patrons and local communities. She has 25 years of combined experience as a library director and grant writer, during which she secured approximately $6 million dollars in grant funding. These funds made it possible to create and expand public programs, improve computer access and connectivity, renovate and repair existing facilities, construct a new library building, and the purchase of a bookmobile and wheelchair accessible Sprinter van for community outreach.

<div>Hello my friends. This is not easy for me. It took me almost 3 weeks to actually ask people for help(financial that is) as you can see by my photo my teeth aren't looking good. Well it's worse than just what you see. After having 2 teeth pulled and a root canal 3 weeks ago that maxed my insurance limits I still have 4 teeth needing root canal/crowns and the two bad teeth in the pic must be pulled as well. Throw in 4 implants to replace the pulled teeth and it's a lot. My dentist in Minnesota might charge upwards of $30-40k for all that. However, my dentist in Brooklyn that take care of many airline employees' teeth has quoted me $10k for all of it. Unlike most dentists they charge the insurance and nothing else extra to the patient until you reach your annual max. They have been doing it this way for years. This office is run by wonderful people.

<div>I have been delaying and delaying lots of work because I just cannot afford it. With those delays the rot has of course gotten worse. Most of this is due to when I was 18-19 yrs old serving in the Army in Germany I ate a lot of lemons. It destroyed the enamel on my teeth. If I can at least raise enough money to take care of the rot which probably is $5k I can take my time and wait till next year and do the implants over a couple years.

<div>I hate this. I do not like the idea of asking friends for money but I can feel two of my teeth beginning to get touchy. To the point I'm concerned I'll need emergency work done and I'll have nothing to cover it. ANYTHING will help. Even if I get to $2k or over it that can at least take care of the most risky/painful ones.
