<div>On Sunday June 1st, around 1:30pm, Diana was getting off the L at 52nd street to meet with friends, intending to spend her day celebrating Pride in Philadelphia. She was instead brutally attacked by a small group of kids with what doctors later identified as a corrosive acidic fluid, assumed to be battery acid.

<div>A couple who witnessed the attack took her into their home, put her in the shower to get what they could off of her, and called the police and ambulance. The attack leaves Diana suffering from 3rd and 2nd degree burns, covering part of her face, legs and arms, along with most of her neck and torso. She was initially taken to Penn Presbyterian, but, has since been transferred to Temple Burn Center where she will have to stay for the next 3-4 weeks.

<div>We're unsure if this was a premeditated hate crime, but we believe she may have been targeted intentionally. Her attackers were 3 young kids assumed to be between 8-12 years old and we are still waiting for more information from the police. Neither the assailants nor their parents have been identified yet.

<div>Diana has been in full body gauze since the attack and will need at least two skin grafts; however doctors are telling her to be prepared for multiple surgeries. She's also been directed to take a minimum of one month off from work and will hopefully be going into her first surgery on Friday. Because of the nature of these types of burns, we won't know how they will evolve during her recovery so while we're hoping for the best, we want Diana to be fully supported in case any extra care is needed.

Because of peripheral neuropathy in my legs, I didn't realize how badly I had injured it, and kept working, averaging three miles a day (a distance I'm proud to make.) But the pain got to be too much, and I saw my doctor. Grade 3 Ankle Sprain, which means I've torn my anterior and posterior Talo-fibular ligaments. I'm going to be unable to work for at least 4 to 6 weeks. I'm lucky in that the Christmas break when I wouldn't be working anyway, is there, but I'm still going to lose a considerable chunk of pay.

<div>On New Year's Eve, I suffered a fall. As of now, I have a fractured right elbow and some sort of non-bone injury in my hip. This happened while we were cleaning out our old storage unit. I have no idea how long I'll be out of work.

But medical tests have now confirmed there was nothing the doctors could do to resolve Caitlin’s recent complications. On October 7, Michael announced that they are in the end phase of Caitlin’s life.

I can't count how many interviews he has been on for the past year, but all have ended with rejections mostly due to them wanting a hipper and younger crowd. The last job he had was a contract job that promised him til January but laid him off in September. He is 66 years old and has severe back problems that keep him from doing almost any physical labor.

My boyfriend also helps with monthly payments. My mom works overtime at a daycare but barely gets by. My sister is handicapped due to complex ptsd and is unable to work, drive or function properly. She is an incredible person who has been through so much, including a very traumatic experience 9 years ago that has made the past 9 years for her a living Hell. Currently, she wrestles with depression and somatic episodes in which her body spontaneously slips into a coma-like state. I stay here in order to watch her when my parents are not around. Needless to say, we're trying our best.

I've gone through so many life milestones here. It's one thing to leave the nest willingly. Help us Keep our House

<p>Bob has had to have unexpected quadruple bypass surgery 13 April 2021. I also found out I have a weak heart to go along with it.<br /><br />As a caregiver for for my partner, we have no one available to drive, shop, or do other things for us for several weeks to a couple months until I can again do them.<br /><br />Among all the logistics of doing in a small town, there are taxi fees, grocery delivery fees, possible equipment,  and other things that will be needed to be paid for, and we just can’t easily  cover all the expenses.<br /><br />I’ve set the goal low, hoping no one will feel intimidated, and we will see real progress toward that goal. But meeting that goal is a bare minimum of help that I think I might get by with.<br /><br />

Bob’s recovery After the Bypass

I wish I never had to make this post. My mom is dying and it looks like we're going to need help with the funeral expenses. My mom was my scout leader as a kid, my fiercest advocate, and my sounding board. It hurts to have to type this up. I'm sure Jill would say the same thing and Dad -- well, Dad is just destroyed by the whole thing. We've always struggled a bit -- the best gift my mom might have given us is how to keep surviving and fighting even when the odds are stacked against us.<br /><br />We're going to need these funds as soon as possible, because the timeframe Mom's got left isn't very long. So if there's any way you can help, I'd appreciate it. We might not make the full number here, but anything can help. Jill and I are handling the funeral expenses, so any money I get is going to be put into my savings account until the point we need them.<br /><br />Thank you ahead of time.

<p><strong>In 2018, Crystal Huff published a #MeToo blog post addressed to the Arisia community</strong>. Crystal is now being sued for defamation, over two years later, for the content of that blog post. You can google Crystal's post if you haven't yet read it, and you can probably google the complaint against Crystal, because it was posted to the internet a day before Crystal was served with it.<br /><br /> <br /><br />It's hard to know what to say, here, without running the risk that a fundraising campaign to help Crystal would end up being added to the lawsuit. What is clear, though, is that Crystal is far from rich, and defense against a lawsuit is expensive. <strong>One person in the fandom community recently related that defending herself from a similar defamation lawsuit cost her $200,000 and took 3 years. </strong><br /><br /> <br /><br />Crystal has talked publicly about having earned about $2,000 during the entire year of 2020. Steve, Crystal's spouse, earns a higher salary, but a good legal defense is simply beyond their ability to fund. This lawsuit must be answered, and for that, Crystal needs support from their community.<br /><br /> <br /><br />Anything you can do to help would be appreciated. If you can add money to this fund, if you can spread the word, if you can offer other kinds of help -- please do. Crystal's work online and in person has touched many lives, between science fiction, feminism, tech, gardening, and political organizing. It would be great to see them receive support in return.<br /><br /> <br /><br />Your donations will go to paying Crystal's lawyer. If somehow more donations are raised than legal fees occur, the leftover amount will be donated to RAINN or a like-minded local organization. We are setting the initial goal of this fundraiser at $10,000, but we know that this lawsuit has already cost Crystal's family more than that sum.<br /><br /> <br /><br />We, Crystal's friends, will update this fundraiser when appropriate.

<p>Vanessa and Christopher were forced to scramble and pack up what possessions they could get together and relocate their family to escape the wild fires. Initially they believed their home is lost, but are holding out hope that their home and belongings aren’t destroyed. It may still be a long voyage in the clean up process, assuming the house is still standing. What may have been destroyed by smoke damage is also still an unknown. It has been an incredibly hard time and they are incurring many added expenses for temporary lodging and having to eat out. <br /><br />Their long term lodging is uncertain, but they are stating as positive as they can. <br /><br />If you have the means available, (during these times, we know it is hard), they could really use some help financially. Unfortunately, I had to pay an emergency obligation as a lump sum, with zero option to make large payments over time. The result of partial payments would have literally left us homeless, even though we were on time with mortgage and property tax payments. In short, it’s complicated. This has left me without money to meet my personal financial commitments (medical, mortgage, and loans), and my business (booth fees for conventions and shows, business licensing, taxes, and to buy supplies in order to make my jewelry). It is imperative to file business taxes at the end of the year, and to pay my rent. In order to do that I need money that was previously in my account but diverted to meet the emergency. This “series of unfortunate events” (the emergency) may put my business of over 30 years completely down. <br /><br />Also, if some of you aren’t aware, I recently retired from teaching full time, and my husband has been laid off since May. Every day he is looking for work; in and out of his career path, many leads, no offers. His unemployment compensation is enough to pay utilities and food only. I have recently taken a part time education job to help with costs, but it is minimal pay. Because of my impending knee surgery, I’m unable to regain full time work status. To say that our resources are limited is an understatement. We have been making cuts to reduce expenditures, but one thing is clear: I need to keep my business.<br />It keeps me creating as a maker. <br />It greatly supplements our survival in today’s world, and it provides a product that you are a part of. <br />I currently have projects that I am working on, but no advance payment until they are fully finished. In order to be finished, I need supplies. The last time I checked, machinery, tools, cost of production, precious metals, and gemstones aren’t free. <br />Essentially my teaching was financing my art to a very large extent. So, back in April, Vanessa and I were expecting our first child. We couldn't afford insurance, and as soon as we got on a program that allowed us to afford an Ultrasound, we discovered two things - we were having Twins, and Vanessa was 3cm dialated. At 24 weeks. <img class="not-resizable" src="https://2dbdd5116ffa30a49aa8-c03f075f8191fb4e60e74b907071aee8.ssl.cf1.rackcdn.com/5634546_fb_1439335942.4694_funddescription.jpg" alt="" width="100%" /><br /><br /><br /><br />Vanessa was instantly whisked off to Lucile Packard Childrens Hospital, where for the next 4 weeks, Vanessa was in Ante-Partum Care. During this time, Vanessa couldn't work, so there was that. <br /><br />Then the Penguins, JohnPaul Merlin Garcia and Benjamin Kyle Garcia, were born on May 18th, 2015. They were 12 week premature. <br /><br />BUT...<br /><br />They went through the NICU with flying colors and came home a week before their planned due date!<br /><br />Sadly, not all their issues were resolved. <br /><br />JohnPaul has eating issues, as well as some issues with his breathing. Benjamin has hernias, and feeding problems. Some feedings take up to 90 minutes. <br /><br />SO...<br /><br />We need help. We need to hire an in-home care assistant (or a Post-Partum Doula, as they may be known) to help get the Penguins through their first year. This is espeially important since we're now a one-income family and Papa Chris has to go back to the office sooner than later. <br /><br />After looking into our options, we're looking at a thousand dollars a week or so, and there are no programs that will help us defer the costs. Insurance won't cover it, sadly. <br /><br />So, we know we're in for over 20 grand plus in costs for the first six month, and have no chance of paying it all, so we're here hoping y'all can help us bring these cute little guys the help they need!

Doula for The GarciaGate Penguins!

This August, the <a href="http://www.loncon3.org">72nd World Science Convention</a>, Loncon 3, is being held in London England, home of Doctor Who.<br /><br />The <strong>Tiki Dalek</strong>, aka TDK, is an award-winning costume I built based on the original 1963 designs for the creatures as they debuted in Doctor Who. TDK has been featured all over the web, on the Nerdist cosplay blog, and in the pages of <strong>Doctor Who Insider.<br /><img class="not-resizeable" src="http://3b4efb995be6c5c64252-c03f075f8191fb4e60e74b907071aee8.r12.cf1.rackcdn.com/1400910_1400561543.0284_multi.jpeg" alt="" width="100%" /><br /><br /><br /></strong>Loncon 3 would like to share TDK's island wackiness with the over 5000 science fiction and fantasy fans who will be attending as part of their exhibits. I would love to oblige. Both parties, alas, are facing budget constraints.<br /><br /><strong>This campaign is to raise the funds to prep and ship TDK to and from the London Worldcon.<br /></strong><br />To be clear, I am attending (and working on) the 2014 Worldcon  regardless of whether TDK can appear. I am paying my own way for the trip. This campaign is to enable us to exhibit (and demonstrate) TDK to a whole new international audience.<strong><br /><br /></strong>(disclaimer: the TDK is an art project inspired by Doctor Who but is in no way officially affiliated with the BBC production)
