For over a year, I’ve cared for these animals independently while fighting a landlord who refuses to fix a failing roof that leaks rainwater into our living space. Legal remedies failed. Temporary repairs failed. Now he is threatening eviction. Over the last 18 months, I pulled 23 dogs and cats from abandonment and medical neglect. Mange. Parasites. Parvo. Nineteen survived and found homes. Eight remain here because no one else would take them. They are my family now. And we are out of time. Emergency Roof Repair Needed to Keep 9 Rescue Animals Safely Housed After months of temporary fixes, the roof of our home is no longer holding. Pieces of the wall have begun to fall away. Recent storms have worsened the leaks to the point that the upstairs is unsafe during heavy rain, and we are all sleeping downstairs to avoid flooding and mold exposure. Unless emergency repairs are made, nine rescued animals — six dogs and three cats — will lose their only safe home.
