<div>Update 05/19/2026: We have turned off automated Gofundme goals to be fully transparent and to accurately reflect the immediate need for funds for new housing after our eviction earlier this month, and getting Melina the care she needs to pay for medical expenses in this country, specifically for Melina's testing (such as MRIs) and treatment, equipment costs for possible brain damage from Mount Carmel Behavioral Health. We are also saving up for getting new housing such as an RV or small apartment, as an eviction makes it harder for us to find housing now.

I had a mental health spiral after that and was involuntarily hospitalized in Mount Carmel Behavioral Health, where I was neglected, tortured, and abused for the week. The social worker at the ER violated our rights to be informed of all of our options, and I was sent to a facility I never would have consented to.

<div>At this facility I received open abuse from both patients and some staff for my appearance and presentation, as I am an openly queer woman who is mixed Polynesian, and the only patient in my unit that was.

<div>My husband and I repeatedly sought information relevant to my treatment and release, only to be denied or delayed for days on end. I also have CPTSD from growing up in an extremely abusive religious household, and all of this was reinforced by the austere and religiously strict conditions at the facility. I was not given the CPTSD care as advertised in the Facility's brochure, only group therapy and medication. My blood pressure rose significantly and I feared retaliation for speaking out.

<div>Since being in this facility, my quality of life has plummeted, I have panic attacks every night, severe dissociative episodes, migraines due to light sensitivity I did not have before, and massive drug withdrawals from being heavily over medicated. I cannot work or function because of their abuse, and we have missed March's rent payment because of this. We are on the verge of being un-housed due to Mount Carmel's neglect and abuse.

Help Melina Hold Mount Carmel Accountable for Abuse,Get Care

<div>MAY 27 UPDATE: HELLO FRIENDS AND FAMILY! We wanted to share an update about where things are at. WE HAVE REACHED OUR GOAL OF 5K!!! My dad has found a new job, which we’re very thankful for. Although it’s a positive step forward, the pay is lower than what he was making before, and our family income is still far below what we need to cover our bills.

Help My Family Cover Bills and Necessities After Job Loss

<div>I wanted to ask for help with a 13 year old (according to his previous owner) Golden Retriever named Jake, who Jonny and I rescued today.

<div>His owner was involved in a domestic violence situation and had to abruptly move, could not bring Jake with her, and hasn’t had the ability to take care of him. She contaced a lot of rescues but most of them had a long surrender intake process and she ran out of time. He was posted on Facebook, with a note saying he would be euthanized today if no one could take him. We headed over to get him and didn’t know we would be walking into a much more serious situation for Jake. He was severely infested with fleas, and his toe nails were curling over, along with badly infected nail beds. He has pretty severe skin issues, likely from prolonged exposure to fleas. It could be a form of mange, we aren’t entirely sure. We are not here to pass judgment on his owner and know this was a sad situation for all involved. We are happy Jake is in good hands with us now so we can get him feeling better!

<div>We took him to our vet (Day Heights Vet Clinic) this evening to get him headed in the right direction.

<div>They decided to move forward with the following today:

<div>-Bravecto to treat fleas and potential  mange

</div>

<div>-Prescription shampoo 1x per week to help his coat grow back

</div>

<div>-Antibiotics for infection 

</div>

<div>-heartworm test and prevention (waiting on results from test, will update when we know if he’s positive or negative)

<div>-rabies vaccine 

</div>

<div>-Skin scrape if there’s no improvement to confirm possible mange. Hopefully his skin is just bad from prolonged exposure to the fleas and he doesn’t have mites!

<div>-X Ray of his infected toe, suspected cancer 

</div>

<div>-Needle aspiration in toe

</div>

<div>-Needle aspiration on tumor on his back side

<div>-Surgery to remove tumor and likely his entire toe if the x ray shows bone cancer

<div>-Neuter while under sedation 

</div>

<div> -More vaccines when he’s able to tolerate them

<div>As you can imagine, these vet bills are going to pile up and were unexpected. We spent about $350 yesterday for a few things, and surgery alone is going to cost thousands. Getting him bathed weekly by our team of groomers will be time consuming and costly as well.

<div>He had the best spa day ever today with many baths to remove the fleas, along with a paw fizz bath bomb, and some relieving medicated shampoo.

<div>As much as Jonny and I would love to keep him, we are at our dog limit here at the Casey household. Before we find the perfect home for him, we want to make sure he’s as healthy as possible. We really appreciate any donation, no matter how small, to get Jake feeling good.
