<div>Rescue Animals Sri Lanka was founded by Anusha David, winner of the prestigious Elizabeth Lewyt Award for her diligent and tireless work during the Tsunami in 2004, during when she was selected by HSI (Humane Society International) as a partner to help with the tsunami-stricken animals in Sri Lanka. Anusha was also awarded a highly coveted grant by The Marching Trust of the UK for her work with street animals in Sri Lanka without any form of appeals or canvassing.

<div>Rescue Animals Sri Lanka believes in giving the best care and nutrition possible for the animals within our sanctuary as well as on the streets . In addition to rescuing dogs and cats we also help any animal in distress including elephants, cattle, goats, birds, reptiles , monkeys and well, just about any animal who needs help despite very limited funds. Currently fighting two legal battles over the massacre of Sri Lanka’s elephants, while two years ago filed legal action against the government and successfully stopped the export of 300,000 Torque Macaque monkeys to China, who were destined for restaurants and laboratories. By the end of July 2025 a further legal battle is planned as Sri Lanka prepares to remove all community animals, despite the No Kill policy being enforced in 2006. Rescue Animals being the most extensive Community Animal feeder is determined not to let these animals down, all of whom have lived their entire lives in their present surroundings be they parks, bus stands, warehouses, vacant lots, and construction sites where they enable security guards on duty a little respite and the chance to rest their weary bones during a long night’s vigil.

<div>RASL will have to move the shelter from its current location to new premises by end August as the current shelter is no longer viable and unable to house all the dogs in a safe, healthy, and comfortable manner. A new location has been found but the cost of the move and renovations will be approximately GB£5000.00
