As many of you know, Frank was diagnosed with cancer last spring, and he spent the last several months fighting a very difficult treatment battle. While he was successful in completing his treatment, it took a very severe toll on his body, and he came to the unfortunate conclusion that he would not be able to return to VG in his current condition.

<div>Anuar is a young 42 year old male who lives a very modest life. He works hard, has no car, and lives with his loving mother, Armida, who had him at the young age of 17. He’s overcome many adversities in his life including a lack of educational resources, financial hardships requiring him to work to make ends meet since he was 15, and withstanding emotional abuse from an alcoholic father. He hustled his way to being a renowned bartender, waiter, boxing coach, and most recently climbed his way to management at a high end hotel.

<div>By nature, Anuar is a very caring and nurturing person who puts everyone before him. He’s been known to accommodate everyone with empathy and compassion whether it’s offering food, drinks, his seat, etc. He’s also known to tip generously (even though he had financial hardships) and would go out of his way to ensure folks at restaurants, hotels, and more were appreciated and seen.

<div>In December of 2023, Anuar suffered a chronic and debilitating cough that left him bedridden for several months. Finally on March 30, 2024, he turned yellow throughout his skin and eyes leading him to the ER at UCLA Medical center where he was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer which had already spread to his lungs, spinal cord, and kidney. He spent nearly 40 days in the hospital before being released in May.

<div>But given Anuar’s resilience, he’s committed to beating cancer and overcoming the odds. Just like the various obstacles life has thrown his way, Anuar is prepared to fight for his life!

<div>Tim is generous with his time and empathy. He is the kind of person who will go out of his way to be the first person there if you're in trouble or need someone to cry with. He is supportive of others, service driven, and great at building up his friends when they are going through a rough patch or trying to accomplish a goal. Tim is also a lot of fun to be around, and - if you've spent more than a few minutes with him - you'll know he can talk your ear off about fitness, nutrition, history, and video games. He takes a genuine interest in others, and is a once in a lifetime kind of friend. He's the best husband I could have asked for and an amazing cat dad. He's never needed support more than he does right now.

<div>Tim was unexpectedly diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma shortly after getting COVID for the first time. One of the lymph nodes in his neck became enormous and never stopped being enormous. He was just starting to get on his feet following a move to NY, and just started a new job that he loves. His job has generously agreed to accommodate him with remote work and days off as he needs them, but we are both about to face some serious medical costs and labor strains on our household. He is going to be at high risk of infection during treatment so we are not cutting any corners on safety.

<div>The current funding goal is the bare minimum of what we need, and will cover treatment costs, transportation, medication, and other related costs for one cycle of treatment. Tim's oncologist is fairly confident this will be cured in 2-6 months. If he only needs one cycle of treatment, this should nearly cover our costs and we could cover the rest. If he needs more than one cycle of treatment, our funding goal may change.

Thank you for praying. Thank you for encouraging us with Scripture. Thank you for your practical provisions. Thank you for mourning with us so well. And we especially thank God Who is our Rock and ultimate Comfort. He has used you all as a means of grace to us in our sorrow.<br /><br />For those of you who do not know, on Monday 10/12 our benevolent Lord saw fit to take our precious youngest child Caleb (5) from this world. Our family was vacationing up at our family ranch as we often do. The Lord’s kindness to us was so abundant as we had a wonderful week together as a family. Caleb got to hunt with Asher, Elijah, and me. Caleb got to ride the quad by himself for the first time. He did AMAZING and LOVED it so much. Caleb was the first out of the house to congratulate Asher on his deer, and the whole family enjoyed time processing the deer together. He played many foosball games with everyone in the family. He enjoyed hunting for lizards, spiders, and moths with Kyla. Julie and Caleb got many sweet snuggle times together. There were many hugs, kisses, and “I love you’s” this last week. There were too many joys to mention them all and we continue to treasure each one with thankful hearts.<br /><br />In the afternoon, as we were preparing to come home from our family vacation, we were loading up my truck. The kids were all helping. As usual, Caleb was jumping in to help as well. He was such a sweet servant! I (Josh) was going to move my truck closer to the home to continue loading up. While I had thought the kids dispersed behind me for another activity, our precious Caleb had actually moved in front of me. As I pulled the truck forward, I inadvertently ran over Caleb. The best we can tell, he had possibly dropped something in front of the truck and was attempting to get it. Realizing what might have happened, I quickly jumped from my truck and sought to care for Caleb. It is clear now that Caleb passed very quickly. We thank God for that grace. However, I, with Julie’s help, performed CPR until medical professionals arrived. As they took over, every attempt to revive Caleb was made with no success. We are grateful that the Lord protected Julie and the other children from having to see the tragic accident take place. That was a mercy from the Lord.<br /><br />My cry while performing CPR is our cry today, “WE KNOW GOD IS GOOD!” We dare not ask God to bend His will to ours but rather ask that He bend our will to His, even if that means being broken and crushed. For the tender mending care of our loving Shepherd is precious to us. We will not reject the anguish for in the depths of our anguish are the mountains of His comfort. And we do not fight against our sorrows. For the intensity of each sorrow is a testimony of how precious our Caleb was to us and how intense our love was for him. Both of these are graces from God to us. We thank God for the undeserved blessing it was to be with Caleb for 5 years, 9 months, and 20 days. Each moment with him was an indescribable gift. He brought such joy to our lives and sweet energy to our home.<br /><br />We do not need answers to why beyond what our sovereign God has given us in His Word. For in His Word is every answer we need and His Word is more precious to us than all the riches of the world. Even more than the riches of parenthood. What else would we need, and where else would we go than into the loving arms of our Savior! Our great God has provided for our biggest need in the forgiveness of our sins through the death of His own Son. With that precious truth in mind, we dare not question His love. How could we? Rather, we cling to Him. You all have been a means of God’s loving care for us. And for that, we thank you and worship Him. We know God is sovereign, and there is no better place for us than where He has us today. We TRUST! We YIELD! We mourn! We BLESS His Name! And though our tears fall almost constantly, we fall on our faces and worship! Blessed is the name of our Lord!

Trusting God As We Mourn Caleb Kellso's Death

Four-year-old Ella Simone Newman was diagnosed with leukemia on January 31 at Kaiser Medical Center in Oakland, California. What began with occasional nosebleeds and random bruising was found to be something much more serious.<br /><br />Ella’s treatment going forward will consist of 8 to 9 months of chemotherapy to be administered at home by her parents Rosie and Ari.<br /><br />Ella will not be able to attend school during her treatment since the chemotherapy will likely weaken her immune system. Should she develop a cold or slight fever, she would need to be rushed to be the hospital for immediate care. Sadly, this will also mean that she and her twin brother Desmond will need to be kept apart so that she doesn’t contract anything from him. We have set up this GoFundMe page to help give the family a little breathing room as they adjust to this stressful situation and to allow Rosie and Ari time to focus on Ella’s recovery.<br /><br />Ella’s two favorite things in the world are the movie Frozen and Desmond. <div>Kabir was just 4 years old when he was diagnosed with a high-risk form of leukemia, known as Philadelphia Chromosome-positive Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (PH+ ALL), on April 20, 2017. His initial treatment at Lucile Packard Stanford Children's Hospital involved intensive, high-risk chemotherapy for two years. Following a relapse in July 2019 primarily in his central nervous system, which occurred just weeks after his initial treatment ended, the harsh reality of Kabir's condition became starkly evident, necessitating further, more aggressive treatmehts.

<div>Our family's journey took a pivotal turn as we sought a CAR-T clinical trial at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), motivated by the limitations of insurance coverage in California. Despite our high hopes, Kabir experienced another relapse six months later, and yet again in July 2020 amidst the pandemic, each setback requiring more invasive treatments and introducing new, lifelong challenges.

Kabir also underwent an orchiectomy requiring future hormone replacement therapy for his entire adult life. The rigors of the bone marrow transplant and its aftermath were daunting, leading to severe side effects and a year-long battle with thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA), which significantly impacted Kabir's kidneys and overall health.

Additionally, he has experienced intermittent incontinence and limb weakness, necessitating the use of a wheelchair for mobility.
