<div>Naj Germaine Proctor entered the world on March 22nd, 2024, bringing boundless joy and light to all who knew him. Tragically, after just three short months of life, Naj unexpectedly passed away on Thursday, July 11th, 2024, due to unknown causes. It is with profound sorrow and heavy hearts that we share this devastating news. The loss of a child is a pain no family should ever endure, and a heavy weight to bear.

<div>Naj was a cherished blessing to his parents, Alisha and June, and his sudden departure has left a profound emptiness in their lives and the lives of their family. He will be deeply missed beyond measure. We find solace in the belief that God is present in every moment of our lives, including this one.

<div>The coroner is currently determining the cause of Naj's sudden passing, and no further details are available at this time. The unexpected loss of Naj has left many hearts broken, and we pray for healing and comfort for all who have been affected by this tragedy.

<div>As we mourn Naj's passing, we kindly ask for support from our family, friends, and community to help bring him home to the Bay Area from Las Vegas, where he passed away, so that he may be laid to rest. We need to raise $30,000 to cover the expenses required for;

Support Baby Naj's Final Journey to Rest

<div>I am LT, aka, Mr. Tan and have been an educator for over 23 years, mainly in the Elementary School (3rd-5th grades) in Watts, Los Angeles, and Currently in East Oakland, but also as an adjunct professor at the University of San Francisco, Mills College, and Santa Clara University. I am always in service of marginalized BIPOC (Black Indigenous People of Color) communities. Over the years, we have created an educator pipeline as many of my former students have gone into the education field and continue to serve communities and students. One of the ways this has happened was by sharing and developing tools for students to critically analyze, problem pose, and problem solve what was going on in their communities, schools, and globally. Students conducted critical research known as Youth Participatory Action Research (YPAR), and were able to present their research and solutions to school officials, mayors, educators, universities, and conferences all over North America. Now a NEW GENERATION of students are ready to follow in these footsteps as they have been selected to present at a Presidential Session for the American Educational Research Association <strong>(AERA) 2024 Conference in Philadelphia on APRIL 11-15th!</strong> I am <strong>raising funds to allow a ONCE in a LIFETIME opportunity to 13 fifth graders to showcase their academic and critical research.</strong> This can be a life altering experience for my students whom oftentimes get overlooked or do not have the same opportunities as others.

<div>This project is important for the fifth graders involved, because it represents many firsts for them. All my students have never been to Philly, and some have not left California. Many have not even had the opportunity to be on a plane. More importantly, this will be their first time being challenged to conduct a YPAR project at this high of a level. They are excited to not only go through an academically rigorous process inside and outside of class, but they are open to the transformative results that will happen from undertaking this project. <strong>The students are excited to not only speak truth to power, but show and prove what BIPOC students from East Oakland are capable of.</strong> I know this will be an experience that the participants will not forget, as evidenced by the previous opportunities former students had in years past.

<div>Students returning from their experience will not just leave it to the select group, they will share their work and experience with the school and in other spaces as well. They will present in university classes, share their work with teacher education classes in hopes to influence other teachers to do this transformative work with their own classes. <strong>Our hope is that this experience SPARKS a transformative movement in education.</strong>

<p>I am reaching out to you in hopes of coming together to support one of my wonderful students and his family during a difficult time. For context, my student and his father migrated two years ago and due to safety issues had to move from to a studio that's much further from the school.

Our puma is currently considering dropping out to help his dad in addition to family in Guatemala with the financial hardships that they are facing.

<p>His advisors and I have come together to support his family by providing food, household essentials, and school uniforms. However it is not enough to cover other financial expenses and it breaks our heart to know that one of our students could potentially drop out due to financial constraints.

<p><br />Backstory:<br />Antoine Whittley has been missing since February 10. He is 17 years old and is a student and athlete at Kennedy High in Richmond, CA. He was reportedly last seen exiting a ride-share vehicle on the Richmond-San Rafael bridge that night. His family and community have been tirelessly spreading the word in hopes that people who were on the bridge share what they saw that night and that others share any information that they have. The Richmond Police Department has been investigating the case since February 11. <br /><br /><img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/54932244_1614380253211194_r.jpeg" alt="54932244_1614380253211194_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" /><br /><br />This fundraiser is being organized by his Assistant Principal, Helene Burks.
