Our beloved French Bulldog, Toffee, has been fighting a rare and life-threatening condition called PIMA (Precursor-Targeted Immune-Mediated Anemia) for the past 2.5 years.
Since her diagnosis, she has undergone 4 blood transfusions and relies on high-dose immunosuppressive medication to survive. Despite everything she has been through, Toffee has remained a happy, loving, and resilient little dog who means the world to our family.
Recently, Toffee faced another major setback. She developed a severe infection affecting her jaw and surrounding tissues. After 5 weeks of intensive antibiotic treatment, the swelling has reduced significantly, but her vets believe she may need another 7 weeks of treatment to fully control the infection.
While the infection is improving, her blood values are not.
Because of her underlying disease and the medications she needs, Toffee is expected to require another blood transfusion very soon. Her veterinary teams (Ark Vets, Galway and Veterinary Specialists Ireland, Meath) are doing everything possible to help her recover, but the costs of ongoing treatment, monitoring, medications, specialist care, and transfusions continue to grow.
The estimated costs are:
Blood transfusion: €800–€1,000
Bone marrow biopsy: €600–€700
Blood transfusion and splenectomy: €2,200–€2,500
Full workup including bone marrow biopsy: approximately €3,000
A splenectomy may offer Toffee her best chance of reducing her dependence on future transfusions, but before making that decision, her specialists are considering whether further testing is needed to assess the health of her bone marrow.
We have already exhausted our savings and reached the limit of our pet insurance coverage. We never imagined having to ask for help, but after years of managing this disease and now facing another major setback, we can no longer do this alone.
Every donation, no matter the amount, will go directly towards:
❤️ Blood transfusions
❤️ Specialist veterinary care

If you are unable to donate, sharing Toffee's story would mean just as much.
Thank you for taking the time to read her story and for helping us give our brave girl the best chance possible.
