He received a scholarship to study typography with Wolfgang Weingart at the Basel School of Design in Switzerland, where he cultivated a unique aesthetic that blended technical precision with cultural depth. Camilo developed a distinctive approach to graphic design, integrating a precise language with a profound commitment to equality. He treated every graphic assignment as serious work, often drawing on philosophical principles to convey messages clearly to large audiences without compromising high visual standards. His assignments expressed his desire to share important messages.

<div>Camilo chose to work with non-profit organizations dedicated to serving the public, including the Brooklyn Academy of Music, the New York City Department of Design and Construction, the City of Miami, and the East Bay Municipal Utility District in Oakland, California. Beyond his professional work, Camilo was a prolific fine artist, with his early talent evident at age five when his work was included in the Second National Salon of Engraving in Maracaibo, Venezuela. His limited-edition art book, "Study of Rootamental," is included in the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) collection in New York City. We ask for your support in honoring Camilo's legacy and fulfilling his wishes during this difficult time.

My brother suffered a severe stroke and has been hospitalized since April. The stroke has left him unable to speak and without the use of his right side. Our family has been by his side every day as he faces the biggest challenge of his life. Before this happened, my brother was an independent and hardworking person. In an instant, everything changed. He now faces a long road of recovery that will require extensive medical care, rehabilitation, and daily assistance.

<div>Those familiar with our dad, Greg Riley, know that he has always been the kind of person who would give anybody the shirt off his back without asking for an explanation or anything in return. For the last couple of years, he has been battling recurring <strong>Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA)</strong>, including many short-term hospital stays in 2024 and 2025. Most recently, he has been dealing with extreme complications from his DKA that have him facing life-changing long-term care, and it has been an incredibly difficult time for our family. Although he is currently receiving treatment, the unexpected medical costs and the substantial time away from work this past year or so have created an intense financial strain on him and our family as a whole.

<div>In late May, a group of 10 students, inspired by Professor Luz Porras’s Guatemala Cultural Engagement class (SUNY New Paltz, Spring 2024), will be traveling to a small town in Guatemala called Panajachel. While the area is popular with tourists, the locals are predominantly indigenous Mayans, and there is a scarcity of opportunities, resources, and jobs that pay adequately, and many people are struggling economically.

<div>Luz has been leading groups of college students for service-learning trips to the area since 2015. For the last several years, Luz and her students have partnered with Angela Kunz, a teacher of fashion and sewing, to bring sewing workshops to low income local women in various communities around Lake Atitlan.
</div>

</div>
<div>This year, all workshops will take place in Panajachel and focus on women who work in the recycling program of the environmental NGO <em>Amigos del Lago</em>. These women all work independently to collect cans, bottles, and other recyclables which they sell via the NGO and scrape by enough to support their families. The goal of the workshops is to bring more skills to the women to encourage entrepreneurship and self sufficiency.

<div>Additionally, Dr. Alejandra Zepeda Flores, of Querétaro, Mexico, will be joining the group and offering medical check ups to the same group of women who otherwise have insufficient access to medical care.
</div>
<div>The medical checkups will focus on urine tests (for UTIs), blood pressure and heart health, glucose tests (diabetes is common), and guidance on women’s personal care.
</div>

<div>Furthermore, our students will also be volunteering with the children of the local NGO, <em>Niños del Lago</em> who offer educational and health programs to local children and families.
</div>

<div>We are raising funds to support the workshops and medical check ups. With your help we will feed 20+ women and their kids lunch and a snack for 10 days of workshops. We will also buy various sewing and medical supplies. Any money left unspent will be donated to Nińos del Lago to support their programs.

Hi. My name is Tarek and I'm the owner-chef of <a href="https://www.qanoonnyc.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Qanoon</a>  restaurant in NYC. Qanoon is housed in Chelsea/Manhattan, the neighborhood I called home for the past 12 years. I opened Qanoon October 2019 and dedicated it to my mother who is the inspiration behind the restaurant's concept. <strong>My mission is to bring her delicious traditional cooking to NYC and share the uniqueness of Palestinian cuisine with the world. </strong><br /><br />I have been working in the restaurant industry for 12 years. Success in this field requires long hours, dedication, and sound business sense but without a community of people that drives your mission, it won't go far. <strong>The secret sauce are the people who work tirelessly to prepare, cook, and serve you the food. </strong>They are Jose, Jason, Oscar, Nasser, Chad and many others who started this journey with me when I opened my first restaurant 7 years ago. <strong>They are like my second family. </strong><br /><br />Amid the COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak, restaurants are closed and I can no longer deliver. The situation there is very dramatic and as you can see in the picture, it always hits the smallest and weakest the hardest.

<div>I myself have been in contact with the management of the children's home for two years and am in close contact with them.

<div>December 12, 2023, was my 37th birthday. It was also the day I finally moved out of the home where the abuse took place on the suggestion of the District Attorney, and the few friends and family I still have in my life.
</div>

</div>
<div>Now homeless, jobless, and without the distraction that the actual physical abuse provides, I find myself desperate, but not hopeless. Domestic violence has taken nearly everything from me. But quantity is not quality, and with your help and what I do still have left, I have more than the makings of a survival story. But right now I am very scared and feel very alone and am hacking together shelter night by night.

<div><strong>THE FOE</strong>
</div>
<div>Domestic violence is insidious, pervasive, and ultimately corrosive. It is not just the 4 consecutive months of black eyes, or the bulging discs in my back, or the countless concussions and damage to my cerebellum. It is the near erasure of my social infrastructure. It is the reluctance to accept yet another job because of the expectation that he will likely sabotage it through slander, or direct threats, as he has countless times over the past year.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>It is my erratic mood swings resulting from head trauma coupled with the after effects of severing the emotional trauma bond that leaves me feeling incompetent and unfit to be around others in any capacity, whether it be social or professional. It is not being able to look at my feet because I can only think of him smashing them in our closet door, repeatedly, while shaming me for making too much noise and bothering our neighbors. It is not wanting to sleep under blankets because I am afraid I will be suffocated with them. It is having to force myself to shower every morning when for so many months it was safer to stay unclean because it decreased the likelihood he would want anything from me physically. And if he didn't "want me" or "need me", maybe he wouldn't beat me when I said no.
</div>

</div>
<div>It is his voice in my head telling me I am nothing, that I am an abomination, a failure, and his most devastating lesson, though incomplete at worst, and incorrect at best, that my love puts me in danger, and that loving me, means pain and destruction for all involved.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>It is also not having a dollar to my name and having nowhere to go. Despite working with law enforcement, the District Attorney's office, social services, and countless other incredible professionals dedicated to this cause, I was still forced to leave the home I lived in to maximize my chances at staying safe.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>THE FIGHT </strong>
</div>
<div>In June of this year I finally mustered the courage to call the police o over a year of increasingly sadistic violence, devastating psychological and emotional manipulation, and relentless social and financial sabotage. Some days it feels like it was too late.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The order of protection that was put into place in June was almost immediately violated and has since never actually seemed to matter. He has been arrested 3 more times, and each time I have become more disillusioned with the system intended to protect me, and victims like me. The most recent arrest in October was a result of a multifaceted attack, on not only me, but also a friend of mine, as well as my home. I had been assured that he should not have been given the privilege of a bail option, however, and yet it was set at 100,000 dollars, and he was able to post bail at 10k and leave the precinct within 6 hours of his arrest.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Since then I have sustained some of the most serious injuries in retaliation for having filing the report about the event. Despite being left unprotected after reporting him, I can not give up on the system, nor can I let my fear of retaliation let him win. I can not let the the doubt, the shame to stop me from asking for the help I can not manage without. We must continue to take a stand against him and the structures built upon isolation of victims and lies of perpetrators that permit abusers to continue to destroy so many countless lives while never truly being held accountable.
</div>

</div>
<div>Instead of trying to control the narrative, or act as though I know how he needs to be punished, which I once believed, I need to focus on changing the things I actually can. So here I am. I can speak my truth, rather than hide it. I can stop trying to save my face and actually save my ass instead.
</div>

</div>
<div>I can’t go quietly anymore. I can’t let him continue to impose on me in my home and threaten me. I can’t be afraid of standing up for myself. But when facing homelessness the most direct path to shelter is, in my case, to protect my abuser.
</div>

<div><strong>THE PLAN </strong>

<div>Domestic violence shelter spots for single women without children are in extremely high demand, and are only a temporary solution if there is availability and I am accepted. I am already in the process of applying for emergency housing aid, however, after having been denied several months ago, I can not put all of my hope in that one option. <div>Hi, I'm Anthony DeVito and I started this fundraiser to help my friend Joan Daidone recuperate very painful from shoulder and arm surgery. She recently had a bad freak accident that resulted in a broken shoulder requiring a metal plate, screws, pins and a long, intense and difficult healing process. Joan's recuperation has limited her mobility and as expected is running up bills — over $5K already and counting.

<div>On Thursday, April 13, 2023, my nephew Ralph P Yarl was on his way to pick up his twin younger brothers from their friend's house a few blocks away from his house. He didn't have his phone. He mistakenly went to the wrong house, one block away from the house where his siblings were. He pulled into the driveway and rang the doorbell. The man in the home opened the door, looked my nephew in the eye, and shot him in the head. My nephew fell to the ground, and the man shot him again. Ralph was then able to get up and run to the neighbor's house, looking for help.

<div>Unfortunately, he had to run to 3 different homes before someone finally agreed to help him after he was told to lie on the ground with his hands up.
</div>

<div>Ralph Pual Yarl is a fantastic kid, and I am not just saying this because he is my nephew. He truly is. At school, he is a member of the Technology Student Association and Science Olympia Team. Jazz and competition band. He is a section leader in the marching band; a scholar and one of the top bass clarinet players in Missouri. He recently earned Missouri All-State Band recognition with an honorable mention. He plays multiple instruments in the metropolitan youth orchestra. He is a 2022 Missouri scholar academy alumni. Ralph can often be found with a musical instrument. He loves them all.

<div>Last summer, Ralph attended Missouri Scholar’s Academy, where he got a full college life experience. His goal is to attend Texas A&amp;M to major in chemical Engineering. When asked how he plans to get into this university, he said, “Well, if they have a scholarship for music or academics, I know I can get it.”

<div>Ralph's teacher and friends describe him as “ a kind soul,” “quiet,” “friendly,” “well-mannered,” “always willing to help,” “super smart,” and a “musical genius.”

He is our miracle. We have heard these types of stories many times, and unfortunately, most black boys are not alive to get another chance.

Build A Masjid

<p>** Please see the <strong>Updates section</strong> for current news on my mom's situation. **<br /><br />My mother Rosemary was recently diagnosed with a rare, and aggressive form of Neuro Endocrine cancer. She has just started chemo and immunotherapy treatments in advance of surgery. She will have to go into a rehab facility to get stronger before she is able to come home.<br /><br />Her husband John suffered a major stroke 4 years ago, leaving him bedridden and without speech. She is his primary caregiver and because she had to go into the hospital, he had to be placed temporarily in a nursing home facility while she was in the hospital. The goal is for him to stay at home so they can stay together.<br /><br />Because John didn't go to the facility for his own medical reason, it's considered "respite care" and not covered by insurance. The fact that the respite my mother needs is her own medical emergency doesn't matter; they have to pay out of pocket each week, or John would have to be moved into a long-term facility.  (Please see my Updates for the latest news on her situation.) <br /><br />My mother is terrified of losing everything and relief from these expenses can only help her state of mind and she battles her cancer. She has always been able to do a lot with a little, but no amount of budgeting and clipping coupons can help her pay bills like these. 
</p>

<p>I wish I could cover all these expenses myself, but unfortunately I can't. After working for most of their lives, Rosemary and John are both on fixed incomes and like many of us, are just one emergency away from financial ruin. <br /><br />This money will be used for:<br />• John's nursing home fees<br />• My mother's hospital co-pays<br />• Home healthcare and transportation<br />• Medical charges not covered by insurance<br />• Any other expected (and unexpected) medial bills down the road

A 5-alarm fire destroyed the homes of many of our the Gambian Youth Organization (GYO) community members at 333 East 183rd Street. At the moment, at least 19 people have been pronounced dead, including young children, and dozens others have sustained life-threatening injuries.

Arlaine was driven to create a safe haven where vulnerable children (7-12) could learn, play, grow, and dream of a better future.
