<div>We came together after witnessing the fear and trauma caused by the immigration raids carried out by ICE throughout our communities, to include violent detainments as parents are simply trying to bring their children to school. The blatant disregard for our rights and laws, and the targeting of our neighbors simply because of the color of their skin or the language they speak has no place in our communities.

Support Immigrant Communities Throughout San Diego

My name is Arturo Gonzalez. I am an activist in the San Diego community, and my work has grown far beyond raising awareness  I now spend my time actively protecting street vendors and vulnerable community members across Southern California.

Street vendors are being picked up from their posts while they’re simply trying to work, feed their families, and survive. What’s happening in our communities is heartbreaking, unacceptable, and demands action. I’ve committed myself to showing up for them  whether that means pulling up to their locations, documenting what’s happening, checking on their safety, or driving across the county to respond when someone is in danger.

In addition to helping vendors on the ground, I also conduct community patrols to keep an eye out for harassment, profiling, and unsafe situations. This work is 100% nonprofit and completely fueled by community support.

To continue doing this, I need help covering:
	•	Gas for daily patrols and emergency responses
	•	Car maintenance so my vehicle stays safe and reliable
	•	Support for street vendors who are being targeted or displaced
	•	Travel across SoCal to assist vendors wherever they need me

Our family is currently navigating an unexpected and deeply difficult legal situation that arose after a hostile and discriminatory encounter during a routine nightly walk in our West Hollywood neighborhood. As a gay couple with our newborn baby, we were targeted in a way that was deeply upsetting and destabilizing for our family. My husband and I have fought incredibly hard to build the life we have today and to welcome our baby into it, which makes this moment especially painful and overwhelming.

<div>On June 14th, our sweet friend Laura lost her beloved husband Arthur Folasa Ah Loo, known to many as Afa. He was tragically killed during the No Kings protest in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Through his work with the nonprofit Creative Pacific and his incredible talent as a fashion designer, he shared his heritage with passion and creativity. But more than anything, Afa was proud of the life he built with his wife, Laura, and their two beautiful children, Vera and Isaac.

<div>During the morning hours of Tuesday, February 25, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) warrantlessly picked up members of the Emanet family, Celal and Emine Emanet, from Jersey Kebab, located at 150 Haddon Avenue, Haddon Township, NJ 08108.
</div>

<div>The Emanet family has an open case with United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and has been waiting since 2016 for a decision on their case. USCIS has not decided whether to approve or deny their green card application for the past 9 years. While waiting for their case to be decided upon, Celal and Emine Emanet were left without a status.
</div>

<div>They are contributing members of society and taxpayers with a five-year valid business license. Celal and Emine own and operate Jersey Kebab, a beloved Mediterranean restaurant across from the Haddon Township Municipality and Police building. The husband-and-wife pair own and manage the restaurant together, a hub for the community, and regularly feed underprivileged members of the community - the sign on the door stating, “Free to anyone with a disability, homeless, or simply cannot afford it.” The couple start prep work together at 9 am and close up shop at 8:30 pm.

<div>At the end of the night, Celal and Emine come back home where they live with their four children (Muhammed, Zeynep, Hamza, Hale), daughter-in-law (Sabina), two grandchildren (Ali and Omer), and two cats (Oreo and Almond). Muhammed (25), the manager at Jersey Kebab, who attended Rutgers-Camden, is a husband and father to two children. Zeynep (23) is a Swarthmore College graduate and works at a local civil rights nonprofit organization. Their younger son, Hamza (15), and younger daughter, Hale (13), cannot imagine life without mom and dad together.

<div>While Celal has been released from custody with an ankle monitor, Emine has been placed into the Elizabeth Detention Center in Elizabeth, New Jersey, awaiting her bond trial. This situation is especially devastating for their 15-year-old son, Hamza, who has autism.

<div>Deporting Emine would cause Hamza immense distress, as he only speaks limited Turkish and relies on the specialized services available to him here in New Jersey. Uprooting him from this support system would have severe consequences for his well-being.
</div>

</div>
<div>Emine is not a flight risk - she is a mother, community member, and neighbor. Neither Celal nor Emine have criminal records or prior orders of removal by an immigration judge. She needs to be released on bond so she can return home. Until she is released, the restaurant, which is their main source of income, is closed. <strong>So please help out any way you can.</strong>

Stand by JERSEY KEBAB & the Emanet Family

<div>On Saturday, February 22nd, citizens gathered at a town hall in Kootenai County, Idaho, to speak with elected members of the Idaho Legislature about important issues affecting their community. What should have been a peaceful and productive event, where people exercised their right to voice their concerns, quickly turned into a violation of Dr. Teresa Borrenpohl’s constitutional rights.

<div>In a shocking and unlawful turn of events, Dr. Borrenpohl was detained by an unmarked paramilitary squad—an unknown and unnamed group of individuals with no clear authority or justification for their actions. What’s even more alarming is that the local sheriff, who, instead of protecting Dr. Borrenpohl, stood by and filmed the incident on his phone after encouraging her violent removal.

<div>This detainment wasn’t just an unfortunate moment—it was an illegal violation of Dr. Borrenpohl’s rights. She was denied her freedom of assembly, her freedom of speech, and most importantly, her right to be free from unlawful detention. This is not just an isolated event; it is a chilling reminder that, even in the United States, our civil liberties can be stripped away without warning.

Justice for Dr. Teresa Borrenpohl: Fight for the First

<div>The Park City Professional Ski Patrol Association (PCPSPA) needs your support. Since April, we have been in negotiations with Vail Resorts to secure a contract that fairly compensates our Ski Patrol and Mountain Safety teams while addressing the rising cost of living in the Wasatch region. <strong>This effort extends beyond just compensation – it's about ensuring respect and safety for all mountain workers.</strong>

<div><strong>On December 13th, 2024, our union members unanimously passed a strike authorization vote.</strong> While we remain committed to negotiating in good faith, we must prepare for the possibility of a work stoppage if Vail Resorts fails to offer reasonable terms.
</div>

<div>The most impactful way to show support is by contributing to our strike fund and sharing our message. This fund will:
</div>

<li>Help leverage our bargaining power with Vail at the negotiations table
</li>
<li>Provide essential support to PCPSPA members during any potential work stoppage

<li>Provide income to members of PCPSPA who have yet to return to work because of the lack of snow
</li>
<li>Many of our patrollers live paycheck to paycheck. If there is a work stoppage, CWA will only issue funds at $300/week to members ON DAY 15 of a strike. This fund lessens the stress of members in having to choose between crossing a picket line for a paycheck vs supporting their peers. If we are able to raise $100,000. Between our almost 200 Patrollers this will mean $500/Person.

<div>I'm Frank Lacagnina, a volunteer with Challenged Sailors San Diego (CSSD), an award-winning, all-volunteer led and run non-profit organization. Founded on October 10, 2014, CSSD is a 501(c)(3) organization (EIN 47-2882798) committed to providing therapeutic, recreational, and competitive adaptive sailing opportunities. Our mission is to enhance the dignity, well-being, and independence of individuals with disabilities through the transformative power of sailing. We exist through the generous support and contributions of our community.

<div>CSSD offers free adaptive sailing experiences for individuals with disabilities, empowering them to explore the natural world with unparalleled freedom and control. Through sailing, participants gain full command over their boat’s direction and speed, embracing the exhilaration of navigating the San Diego Bay's open waters on their own terms.

<div>Every Friday and Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., community members, active duty and veteran armed service members with conditions such as multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injury, or quadriplegia and paraplegia, and many others, are invited to enjoy engaging and exhilarating sailing experiences. Our goal is to teach participants, aka Adaptive Sailors, how to independently skipper a sailboat, regardless of their previous sailing experience. We prioritize treating all our guests with dignity and care, and we encourage them to integrate sailing into their lives with the option for ongoing participation in our adaptive sailing program.

<div>Each Adaptive Sailor is paired with an experienced volunteer Companion Sailor who offers guidance and support throughout the journey. Our boats are equipped with a mainsail, a jib, and some are rigged with spinnaker sails. To ensure safety, the boats feature a 330-pound keel that prevents capsizing. We host groups of Adaptive Sailors who join us on many weekends to learn, refine their skills, or simply enjoy the beauty of San Diego Bay. Some even enjoy the exciting challenge of competing in races.

<div>Our Companion Sailors are stationed at the back of the sailboats, providing sailing instructions and support to the Adaptive Sailors. CSSD offers comprehensive training for Companion Sailors, covering boat rigging and operation, as well as protocols for addressing any needs or emergencies that may arise. Our boats are equipped to accommodate various levels of paralysis and hand function. For sailors with limited upper body strength, we provide a power assist unit (PAU) with a joystick that allows them to adjust the sails and steer the boat. We even have a sip-and-puff system that enables breath control of the PAU.

<div>CSSD urgently needs to raise funds for our operations for the coming year, approximately $7,400 per month. This budget covers essential expenses such as insurance, American Sign Language Interpreters for our hearing impaired and deaf sailors, three marina slips, and all boat maintenance. We currently have eight Marlin 16 sailboats, one SKUD 18 sailboat, and an RS Venture, each specifically designed to enable individuals with disabilities to sail with full competency. Our Boston Whaler motorboat monitors our fleet during sails. A dedicated team of volunteers performs regular maintenance on these boats, ensuring they remain seaworthy and our sailors stay safe.

<div>Hi! My name is Jay Nelson and I'm fundraising for my great friend J. Charles Holt, to tide him over until his disability benefits are approved.

<div>Charles (as most know him) has suffered from a series of worsening medical ailments for several years that have ultimately resulted in an inability to work and support himself. As his conditions have been worsening, he’s been struggling more and more with basic tasks, and this has also led to a sharp decline in his quality of life.

<div>The Disability Benefits process has been extremely slow, and despite continually cutting back his expenses he has exhausted his funds.
</div>

<div>Many of you may or may not know this about me, but I have high prescription, making me pretty blind without contacts or glasses.
</div>
<div>To give you an idea of how blind I am, consider that the military accepts people with up to -8 diopters of vision.... I am -16.5 diopters in both eyes, with astigmatisms. Most people range between -1 and -3 diopters.
</div>
<div>Until now, I have never been a candidate for correctable surgery. FInally, I am eligible for implantable contact lenses (ICL). This procedure is not considered "medically necessary" since I am correctable up to 20/25 with glasses/contacts, and therefore has 0% chance of being covered by insurance. This will be a life changing surgery for me, and I cannot contain how excited and grateful I am to have it done.
</div>
<div>The surgery is almost $10k, and covers ICL, followup Lasik (because the strongest ICL isn't enough to fully correct me), and followup visits for 1 year post surgery. I will have a payment plan for anywhere between 2 to 5 years. Any amount of donation to help me pay off this medical debt is greatly appreciated.

Fix Rachel's eyes!

Southern California Golden Retriever Rescue's (SCGRR) partners in South Korea have been busy trying to save dogs from getting sold in the meat trade, killed in high kill shelters, or saving medical priority dogs left and right.  High kill shelters don't necessarily practice humane euthanasia and have even been known to sell dogs to the tortuous meat trade.  Unfortunately, the pandemic has made a dire situation even worse.  <br /><br />South Korea is also by far the most expensive country for SCGRR to responsibly rescue from because Heartworm is so prevalent and fosters are scarce.  We work hard to make sure dogs are clear of “microfilaria” – the infectious part of Heartworm – before they can come to the U.S. to begin the life they've always deserved.  This is because we live in a low Heartworm state where many owners don’t have their dogs on prevention.  That means longer stays for initial treatment overseas where fosters are scarce and costly boarding is necessary.   With COVID 19 travel restrictions and impending summer heat, the situation is even more complicated and their stays might be even longer.  But at least with our partner, they are safe for now!    <br /><br />We have sponsored 4 amazing Goldens and we need YOUR help to cover the costs of getting them here.  During the time it took for us to commit to these 4 dogs, two others we were considering died and more are being presented still. We need your help to pull together funds specifically to help dogs from this country. Please help us continue to save these dogs from horrible living conditions and even more horrific deaths.  COVID-19 has also impacted our fundraising through events this year (down 70%) and we don’t want to leave these dogs behind.<br /> <br /><strong>Tiffany</strong> is approximately 2-year old and was also discovered at a high kill shelter.  She is scared of humans and very shy – clear signs of abuse.  Despite that she is gentle and calm, and loves to play with children and other pups. She is Heartworm positive and has started treatment.<br /><br /><strong>Mikey</strong> is 2-years old and was presented to us from a high kill shelter. His hair was so matted and he showed such anxiety from being kept in a small crate at the shelter. We do not know how he got there - whether he was an owner surrender or a stray dog that got captured.  Our partners describe his personality as a gentle giant, loves all human interactions and craves love from humans.  He is also Heartworm positive and has started treatment.<br /><br /><strong>Jane</strong> is five years old; discovered at a high kill shelter.  One of our international partner volunteers got a call late one night to save this girl.  Despite being in a cramped cell with a heavy chain on her, she still smiled and wagged her tail at the sight of her human rescuers. She is presumed to have lived her life outdoors for the entirety of her life. She is a precious love bug with all the best golden personality of love for humans, other four-legged friends, and snacks. She is also Heartworm positive and has started treatment. <br /><br /><strong>Chipmunk or “Chip”</strong> as we are calling him is a 3-year old male also discovered in the nick of time at a high kill shelter.  He would have been euthanized on May 9 but our partner rescued him on May 8.  He was dumped there by his prior owner.  He is terrified of car rides and adores humans.  So desperate for human companionship, Chip gets very anxious when humans are not in sight.  He is ok with other dogs as long as they don’t get up in his face – probably because he doesn’t want to mess up those cute Chipmunk Cheeks!  He is Heartworm positive and has started treatment. <br /><br />Thank you in advance for your support of Southern California Golden Retriever Rescue and our efforts to help Goldens in need around the globe.  To think of the pain that awaits such a sweet and trusting breed if rescues can’t help hurts our hearts. Hi everyone,<br /><br />Thank you so much for your support. Because of your generosity, we are getting close to making Amaury's dream a reality. We withdrew a portion of the funds for his deposit, but we are still accepting donations. We've reached $1850 of our total goal of $2000 so far. Thank you again!<br /><br /><strong>About Amary:</strong><br />Amaury is a junior at University City High School (UC) in San Diego. He has over a 5.0 GPA and is taking many honors and AP classes. His dream is to study at Caltech, MIT, Berkeley, or Stanford and have a career at NASA as an astrophysicist or quantum mechanics researcher. He lives in City Heights, an ethnically diverse low-income inner city community. He is part of <a href="http://realitychangers.org" target="_blank">Reality Changers</a>, a nonprofit educational organization dedicated to building first-generation college students. Because of his academic excellence and passion for science, he was selected to attend the Congress of Future Science and Technology Leaders convention this summer in Cambridge, Mass. The three-day academic conference is sponsored by the <a href="http://www.scitechleaders.com/" target="_blank">National Academy of Future Scientists and Technologists</a>. At the event, he'll have the unique opportunity to hear from and meet Nobel laureates and distinguished scientists.<br /><br />When he found out the cost of tuition, not including airfare, housing, and meals, he thought there was no way he could attend. As his tutors/mentors at Reality Changers, we want to help. We would love to see him experience this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. We'd like to raise enough funds to cover his tuition, airfare, transportation, housing, and meals in Cambridge.
