I’m raising funds for my fiancé, Julia Cacdac. For the past 10 years, Julia and I have built a life and a deep love together while navigating a long-distance relationship between the U.S. and the Philippines. Our commitment is strong and we are not apart by choice, but lately we’ve hit a financial wall as Julia faces several serious health challenges at once.
Over a year ago, doctors found a large growth on Julia’s ovary that requires a hysterectomy and removal of the growth. We were relieved to learn that it is not cancerous, and her long-term prognosis is great if it is treated soon. But the procedure costs about $5,500 in the Philippines, and because Julia does not have health insurance, that cost has been out of reach.*
On top of that, Julia recently suffered a severe fall and broke her wrist. She now needs urgent surgery to pin her wrist, with expected costs of about $2,500 for the procedure, hardware and casting.*
*Pictures of documentation, scans, x-rays, injury, and additional photos are shown at the end of this description.
Julia is also managing chronic health conditions, including fatty liver disease and hypokalemia (low potassium). When her potassium drops too low, it can become life-threatening and has sometimes meant spending a day in the hospital, costing about $1,000 each time. She needs weekly potassium checks, monthly medications, and weekly blood monitoring. Her blood tests total $525 per month. These ongoing out-of-pocket medical costs have prevented us from saving and put us deeper in debt. month after month, even as Mounjaro, which has helped her greatly, costs $1,000 a month. She has lost most of her excess weight and her edema has gone away.
Donations will help cover:Wrist surgery and recovery, including x-rays and physical therapy
Hysterectomy and ovarian growth removal
Weekly potassium checks and regular blood monitoring
Monthly medications and medical stabilization for both procedures
Emergency hospital visits if her potassium drops dangerously low
This has been scary for both of us, and I’m deeply worried that Julia won’t get the care she needs to keep going. She also has three kids and three grandchildren who love her so much. Because these medical needs are ongoing, recurring donations would make a real difference by helping us keep up with her weekly monitoring, monthly medications, and unexpected hospital visits over time. One-time donations would also mean so much and would help us move closer to getting her surgeries and continuing the care she needs right now.
If you’re able to give or share this fundraiser, thank you for standing with Julia and helping her get the treatment and support she needs.
