What they care about

I care about helping others even when I’m not sure what that looks like.

I was able to get a phone deliver to hottenstein. I don’t know what all will be needed to set it up tho, I did speak with staff briefly but so far only to receive the phone which turned into an ordeal of its own. Thank you everyone who is following supporting and sharing his story. I look forward to updating when there more news.
Here are the contacts for the facility jay is at he hasn’t been able to talk on the phone much due to his stroke though. There are just what was available to the visitors upon entry of the facility.
I forgot to post though…. I got to see Hottenstein today. ❤️ Most importantly, I got to sit with him, hear his voice, and hear him get some words out himself. That meant more to me than I can explain. I also got some clarification directly from him. He told me that some of the earlier rumors about his health condition were not accurate. What I can say with confidence is that he suffered a stroke. He shared some additional context with me about what happened before the stroke, but because I was not able to speak with his nurse, CNA, or medical team today, I do not want to repeat medical details as fact or try to connect things medically that I cannot verify. Even some of what he was telling me was difficult to interpret because speaking is still hard for him right now. I am not a doctor, and I do not have access to his medical history, so I would rather be careful than accidentally give everyone bad information. Talking was difficult for both of us. He is still working very hard to find words and get them out, and there was a lot going on around us. Rather than frustrate him with question after question, I decided the most important thing I could do was simply be there with him. And I did get to do something useful. I learned that Hottenstein currently does not have a phone with him, which makes communicating with family much harder. I tried to get him an inexpensive phone today, but the purchase fell through at checkout because Walmart would not accept the mobile payment method I had available. So that mission is not dead — just rerouted. I can order one online and arrange delivery, but realistically that will have to happen tomorrow. I have a very early flight, my phone is barely hanging on to a trickle charge, and I need to get some sleep tonight. If one of our angel donors happens to have the time and capacity to help take this one thing off my plate, you are absolutely welcome to. ❤️ I only ask that you please coordinate with me, Ron, Hottenstein, or Kelsey before purchasing anything — or let one of us know immediately afterward — so we do not accidentally duplicate efforts and everyone knows what to expect. Otherwise, I will take care of it tomorrow as soon as I reasonably can. I also talked with Kelsey about the fundraiser and reassured her that food, gas, basic household needs, transportation, and keeping their family stable during this medical crisis are exactly what these emergency funds are meant to help with. The goal was never for them to go without basic needs at home just so they could afford to get to Hottenstein. Kelsey has also started working on the documents they need for longer-term assistance. Some paperwork still has to come from Texas, and the holiday weekend slowed things down, but that process is moving forward. That is a HUGE win. There are still questions I could not get answered today — especially about continued therapy, what he may need after discharge, and what his longer-term care will look like. I am not going to guess at those things. I’ll share them when we actually know. But tonight I can tell you this: I got to him. I got to hear him talk. He knows people are showing up for him. Kelsey and Freddie have some breathing room. And the work we have all been doing together is reaching the people it was meant to reach. Thank you to every single person who donated, shared, checked in, prayed, sent information, or helped me get here. You helped make today possible. ❤️ And with that, I’m calling it a night. I woke up at 3 a.m. this morning to make today happen, and tomorrow starts with another 4 a.m. alarm so I can get myself back to the airport. I promised everyone an update, and I wanted to keep my word before I let myself sleep. Goodnight, everyone — and thank you again. ❤️
I was given pictures to share, This was at Saint Joseph’s, the hospital before being moved to the acute rehabilitation center and his step son Freddy. Adding KelseyGoldan and Ron Herforth to help as and if they feel comfortabe to add to anything I may have missed. Ron has been doing what he can by himself out there for Hottenstein. He is donating time, money and is offering assistance personally to me as well for assistance with information, keeping friends and family posted, taking time off work. I hope he knows just how much he does for his people but none of us can do it alone. So thank you Ron and welcome.
