<div>Harlow was diagnosed in July 2023 with TUBB4A leukodystrophy, a rare and terminal neurodegenerative disease. We started searching for answers when, at 18 months, she still wasn’t walking independently. An MRI showed she had less white matter in her brain than normal, and genetic testing confirmed our worst fear—TUBB4A-related leukodystrophy.

She cruises and dances with her posterior walker, lighting up the world with her feisty, fearless spirit. She is sharp, funny, and overflowing with love. She loves everything pink, the beach, animals, and giving the most heartfelt hugs that remind you—on even the darkest days—that pure goodness still exists.

<div>Leibel has undergone multiple life-saving surgeries for severe abdominal and leg injuries and faces a long road of ongoing surgeries and medical treatment. <div>We are overjoyed that after 484 harrowing days in captivity, <strong>Keith Siegel, a 65-year-old American-Israeli, is set to be released on February 1, 2025.</strong> Keith was abducted from his home in Kibbutz Kfar Aza during the tragic events of October 7, 2023. His wife, Aviva, was also taken but was released in November 2023. Since then, Keith has endured unimaginable hardships, including broken ribs and prolonged confinement.

<div>Throughout their captivity, Keith remained a pillar of strength and hope. He encouraged fellow hostages to stay positive, often asking them to share something uplifting from their day. Aviva recalls, "When I needed him to hold my hand, he held my hand; if I needed him to take me to the bathroom, he walked with me to the bathroom. He was with me 100%." In an act of profound love and sacrifice, Keith chose not to disclose his U.S. citizenship, fearing that he might be released while leaving Aviva behind. As Aviva says, "Now I'm out, and Keith is still there."

<div>Like so many others affected by the devastating fires in Los Angeles, we are raising funds for our beloved cousin. Emily and her 7 year old daughter Clementine tragically lost their home in Altadena in the Eaton Fire. Thankfully, they were not at home when the fire struck.

<div>Today marks Clementine's 7th birthday, and Emily had the heartbreaking task of telling her that their home and her school are gone.

Help Single Mom & 7yo Daughter Who Lost Home in Eaton Fire

Birthing a New Kind of Dream<br />The day we met Juniper Pearl<br /><br />Norah and Michael’s journey into parenthood started out like any other. There was excitement over first kicks, conversations about what the baby may look or be like. There were the fun decisions like discussing what they should name her. Along with all of these things there were also the little births of dreams. The trips they would take, the shows they hoped she got to see, the holidays she would get to spend surrounded by loved ones. These are the dreams all of us parents have for and about our children.<br /><br />Norah’s pregnancy was an uncomplicated one. She felt well and took great care of herself. Her baby passed all of the routine tests they do during pregnancy. Even throughout labor that little baby looked perfect on the monitor. It was a long and challenging labor and delivery, but mom and baby were great throughout. After many hours Norah gave the final push that brought Juniper out into the world and for one brief moment pure joy filled the air.<br /><br />Just as quickly as that sensation entered the room, it left. It was almost as if someone had sucked the air right out of the room. Something was wrong. Juniper never started breathing. The doctor stimulated her, suctioned her repeatedly and then called for the pediatricians. They came in and continued to work on Juniper as everyone else could only stand by, hoping, praying, pleading. After several minutes Juniper was held up for Norah and Michael to see as she was rushed to the door and into the NICU. <br /><br />For the next couple of hours Norah and Michael sat in relative silence and waited. Every time footsteps were heard in the hall or a creak was heard their eyes snapped to the door. Who would come in and what would they say? Would Juniper be with them? Every option played out in their mind. No one said anything though. It was too terrifying, as if saying something would jinx the outcome.<br /><br />After over two hours like this the neonatologist on duty finally came into the room to give an update. Juniper was alive, but she had sustained a significant brain injury. At some point Juniper was deprived of oxygen and her initial brain mapping didn’t look good. At that point they couldn’t say whether Juniper would survive or not. She was showing signs of seizures. They were in the process of putting a cooling cap on her to slow the brain damage and hopefully stop it from becoming more wide spread. The road ahead would be long and bumpy and it was possible Juniper wouldn’t survive. <br /><br />Juniper was born just over one month ago. Despite having the deck stacked against her she has been a champion little baby. She is making strides and improving daily. She is now breathing on her own and is even starting to figure out how to coordinate her suck, swallow and breathing reflexes. She is beginning to take in food from a bottle, though many of her feedings are taking place through a tube that was surgically placed into her stomach. The hope is that soon she will be able to begin to breastfeed. She is now able to leave the NICU and go home as she has become much more stable.<br /><br />All of this is such wonderful news, but we also have to remember that Juniper has many challenges ahead of her. She will need around the clock care, physical therapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy and much more. In order to facilitate all of this care Juniper will have to have all hands on deck for some time. I am writing on behalf of Norah and Michael to ask for your support. I would like to be able to raise enough money that Norah and Michael will not have to worry about affording their living expenses or any additional health care costs not covered by health insurance for the next year. Their bills are a lot for one person to carry, but I just know if we all band together and contribute what we can that we can carry them through this.<br /><br />I want to say one special thing about both Michael and Norah. They are two of the most positive, loving, gentle and kind people I have ever met. They are deeply strong and committed to caring for Juniper, fully and personally. Throughout this process a new kind of dream has been born. One where Juniper is home, stable and thriving as best as she can. Help Support Juniper Pearl

During this holiday season I hope and pray that my loving son from above is able to take some pride in the strikingly beautiful and good children he loved so much but so sadly left behind. He lives on through these beautiful children.

 This fund has been set up primarily as a higher education fund for these six young children to ensure that they have the opportunity for the future that their late father envisioned for them. ----------------------------------------------------The loss of a child is the most devastating tragedy a parent can experience. Bringing a child into the world is an extention of a parent and the loss of that child, regardless of age, creates a void that can never be filled. In this case the void is greater than can ever be imagined for six specific reasons.  The loss of our son in a horrific motorcycle accident in the Philippines was as devestating an event as any parent could ever imagine. The financial cost of the hospital stay before he passed was also catastrophic. Jared was  a grandchild of holocaust survivors and he was also  a tireless worker who at times worked three jobs to provide for his family in the Philippines.  As devestating as it is to lose a child, what makes Jared's story even more tragic is his leaving behind six small children to be raised by a single mom. Jared was the sole provider for his family and with his passing leaves nine year old twins Isaac and Isaah, seven year old Ashley, six year old Athena, three year old Adam and one year old Andre to grow up without their devoted father and the financial support he provided. Andre takes a photo of his dad to bed each night to keep the memory alive. The financial situation these young children find themselves in as a result of a driver in the Philippines failing to look both ways when he pulled out onto the road and drove into my son will impact them for the reast of their lives. The purpose of this GoFundMe effort is to establish a mechanism to priovide funding for these children in addition to the efforts of family. For those of you not familiar with the living conditions in the Phippines, poverty is the overwhelming situation. Many of you have inquired how best to honor the memory of our son. The answer is quite simple: help in the support of these beautiful young children and allow them to receive a proper education and stay out of poverty as their devoted father strived so hard to do. Our initial goal is to raise $36,000 (double chai) or about $6,000 on average for each child. This money will be used to help their single mom in covering their food, shelter, clothing, medical bills, transportation, education, and so forth over an extended time period. Of particular concern is ensuring that their education includes English as a first language which is essential to ensuring opportunities as each child reaches maturity. An adequate education is the only mechanism for escaping a life in poverty. The money you donate will help to ensure that these children escape third world poverty.  Your thoughtfulness will be well appreciated and serve to honor the memory of our son by helping those six small childfren he left behind. <div>From there, a search began. With no information about his condition, his whereabouts or whether he had been evacuated, his friends drove down to Bondi trying to find any indication that Gefen was alive, and from there went from hospital to hospital searching for him.

<div>Finally, he was found - already in surgery with severe gunshot wounds.

<div>Over the next two days, Gefen’s dad who had flown out from Israel, with his friends, tried to piece together what happened. Gefen was shot from face on, and using Find My Phone it was found that his last location was closer to the site of the deadly shooting than he had initially been sitting. How was that the case if he had run away from the gunfire?

<div>Then, amongst a group of friends, the missing puzzle piece was found. Someone recognised the guy in a red shirt - the one alongside Ahmad al Ahmad - as Gefen. The friend who sat with him at the event remembered his clothes, his father recognised him immediately.

<div><strong>Gefen had escaped, he was safe, but when he saw the terrorist, he ran into the line of fire to help. He made the decision to put himself at risk to save the lives of others. As Ahmad Al Ahmad heroically jumped on the terrorist, Gefen ran in alongside to confront the terrorist. There, he was shot, fell to the ground, and shot again. Now in the ICU, Gefen’s put his own life at risk with his selfless actions. </strong>

<div>Gefen - an unarmed Israeli civilian, living in peace in Australia - made a decision most of us couldn’t even think of. He ran into the face of danger like only a hero does, guided by the values on which he was educated and raised.

<div>On the first night of Chanukah, our community suffered an unimaginable loss. Our beloved rabbi, teacher, and friend, Rabbi Eli Schlanger, was tragically killed in the Bondi massacre.
</div>
<div>Rabbi Eli was an exceptional human being who devoted every part of his life to others. He changed the lives of everyone he interacted with. Always with a warm smile, a listening ear, and a heart open to every question and struggle. Whether you came to him with a personal dilemma, a spiritual question, or simply needed someone to talk to, he always had time. No one was ever turned away. He supported individuals and families through joy and heartbreak, quietly giving of himself in ways most people never saw. Now, he leaves behind his loving wife and five beautiful children, including a newborn baby who will grow up hearing stories of the remarkable father they lost far too soon. Eli devoted his life to our community. He gave us his time, his energy, his wisdom, and his love. In this time of deep grief, we want to come together to give back to the family who gave him to us.
