 Niki, a friend of Jeanne’s, has been invited to teach a Bible study for women incarcerated at Taycheedah Correctional Institution. This opportunity is especially meaningful because Niki has experienced incarceration personally and understands how much faith, encouragement, and support can matter during that season of life. She wants every woman in the class to have her own copy of <strong>Holy Ground in Hard Places</strong> so each participant can fully take part in the study, journal through the lessons, and continue reflecting on scripture beyond class. While Niki is deeply committed to this ministry, she cannot personally cover the full cost of providing all of the books.

 Donations will help purchase 27 author copies of <strong>Holy Ground in Hard Places</strong>, along with printing, shipping, and tax. Niki will not receive any royalties from these author copy purchases. These workbooks will give the women in the class a chance to look inward with the guidance of scripture, reflect on their lives, and gain a new outlook on life beyond prison. If funds remain after this class is covered, they will be used to purchase additional copies for incarcerated women or other approved prison ministry Bible studies. <div>Monk Gyatso wants to bring a live performance to your living room! On Sunday, April 24th Monk Gyatso will be performing live arrangements of five songs featuring a complete thirteen-piece horn section and many other guest artists. This performance will be unlike anything Monk has ever achieved, and it is our vision to bring it to your home by recording the performance as a live video album. Due to the incredibly high level of musicianship necessary for this performance, we feel the need to hire professionals to record the video. This costs money. We don't have money. While we have been pursuing many funding options, we hope to supplement our fundraising by reaching out to friends, family, and fans of our music. Anything that can be donated would be incredibly helpful and genuinely appreciated!

<div>Betty is embarking on a difficult journey to battle aggressive cancer, and we would like to help support her in this time of need. Betty is a working mother with a college-age son, Dillon, and will most certainly need to take substantial time away from work to fight this disease. The medical expenses, and life expenses in general, will be overwhelming and a huge financial hardship for Betty. When facing a life-threatening illness, the last worry you need is stretching a paycheck to try and meet the most basic of life expenses. Betty has lived and worked in St. Petersburg, Florida since 1980.  During that time, Betty has been a working mother for 21 years. <br /><br /> Betty is a friend to all of us. No one could find a mean thing to say about her or recall an experience when she wasn’t smiling (those dimples!!), happy and friendly. It’s time to come together as a family/community/brotherhood and show her we love her and we are here for her.

Help BETTY LYNCH in her cancer battle.

Peter and Kami came to Memphis from Illinois back in 2018. Peter was unable to work at the time as he recovered from an injury, but Kami had a job opportunity that couldn't be passed up. They quickly found a community of friends and fit right in. Fast forward several months and Kami's new company went through a contraction and Kami lost her job, forcing them to unemployment. As they both searched for work, benefits started to run out and just as Peter was beginning an interview process for a new job, he began to experience extreme pain in his right leg. It was discovered that he was suffering with Peripheral Artery Disease. He has spent more than 25 days in the hospital in crippling pain and gone through SEVEN surgeries to try and repair/restore the blood flow, all of which proved unsuccessful. On December 8th, he finally had an eighth surgery to amputate his right leg below the knee.<br /><br />The good news is that Peter is doing much, much better now. His pain is mostly gone, and he is sleeping better than he has in months. He still feels moments of discomfort, but he is not in constant distress like he was before. The struggle is that Peter and Kami do not have medical insurance, and the bills are piling up. While efforts are being made to help, their finances have taken a huge hit, and Peter still has lots of doctor's visits ahead of him, as well as the eventual need for a prosthetic leg. Kami is having to struggle through this largely on her own as hospital visits are extremely limited in this time of COVID-19 and their family is all back in Wisconsin and Illinois, and they both need our support.<br /><br />Kami and Peter have quickly become vital parts in the lives of several of us here in Memphis, as they have both been very quick to lend a helping hand or friendly ear when any of us have needed their help. Personally, Peter spent time in the hospital with me when I was having my own struggles back in 2019, and it hurts that I can't be there for him now. They are good, good people and right now, they just need our help. Anything you can give is greatly appreciated. Thank you for reading and sharing this, and thank you for anything you can give.

Steve Cotter passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, 10/22. His family is dealing with the loss of their wonderful husband, father, grandfather, father-in-law, uncle, and many other amazing titles he held. He was passionate about his work (carpenter/contractor/longshoreman), his kids (Corina, Audrey, and Joe), his grandkids (Elayzia, Griffin, Canyon, Ada, Maisareen and Yuri), and especially passionate about the love of his life, Jane. He will be missed tremendously. Your donations to this family will help provide some relief as they deal with upcoming travel expenses, burial/funeral costs, and other miscellaneous expenses. <strong>Gavyn Alvarado Memorial Fund</strong><br /><br />With deep sadness, we share the untimely death of Gavyn Alvarado on Sunday, May 17, 2020.<br /><br />Gavyn had a huge heart, a competitive spirit, and an affinity for connecting with others. He continued to show up, even when things were difficult, and be real and vulnerable. Gavyn was a compassionate, loving, and caring young man that was just starting to learn what his place might be in the world.<br /><br />This Memorial Fundraiser is in honor of Gavyn as his family begins to navigate this difficult and painful process of grief, anger, disbelief, and sadness. <br /><br />In order to alleviate some of the stress and difficulty we are asking for any contribution, you can make. After a fatal car accident on June 7th, this young man lost his life way to soon. His family is in need of help  to properly put him to rest. Im setting this go fund me page to help raise donations for the funeral cost.  Trevor is from  Windlake/Muskego community.  Trevor had a life ahead of him. His humor and personality touched everyones heart and made him such a lovely person. In 2013, Wisconsin saw 227 overdose deaths and emergency responders deploy Narcan (a drug that reverses an overdose death) over 5000 times while the needle exchange programs reported another 1108 deployments for a total of 6108 successful reversals of opiate deaths.   This was a potential loss of 17 people EVERY DAY for a YEAR in Wisconsin.<br /><br />Based on the number of deaths so far in 2014, we are on track to double the numbers from last year if the trend continues as at the current pace. This is a potential loss of 34 people EVERY DAY for a YEAR in Wisconsin.<br /><br />Wisconsin United We C.A.N. (Change Addiction Now) is committed to families who have a loved one with an addiction. We know that addiction impacts every member of the family and that recovery for the family is a missing piece in solving the epidemic of addiction. The vision of WIUCAN is that united, we can change addiction now by restoring families structures through education, hope, and recovery.<br /><br />We are asking for your help to fund our efforts to save our families and the lives of our loved ones with this disease. With 1 in 3 families touched by addiction, it is likely you know someone who is impacted. <br /><br />Using evidence-based research, we have identified the following areas as key focus areas for Wisconsin:<br />• Develop outreach programs for families across Wisconsin<br />• Expand awareness of the online support program membership<br />• Provide peer-to-peer family support/recovery coach training<br />• Provide training opportunities on the use of Narcan<br />• Provide learning opportunities for members and the public on addiction-related topics taught by topic experts<br />• Develop parent informational packets available online<br />• Provide education and a marketing campaigns around the Good Samaritan law and other H.O.P.E. laws<br />• Partner with other organizations to provide pre-treatment programing and post-treatment <br />• Develop scholarships for treatment programs and transition living<br />• Advocate for changes in the laws related to prevention, treatment, harm reduction and law enforcement (including treatment within our incarceration facilities)<br /><br />Don't think you are impacted by addiction? Even without a friend or family member, there is a significant impact to our society. Here are some facts from drugwarfacts.org. Note that many of these costs have risen significantly since the reports published:<br /><br />· In 2009, the estimated cost of Controlled prescription drug abuse to public and private medical insurers was $72.5 billion a year.<br /><br />· In 2007, the cost of illicit drug use totaled more than $193 billion. Direct and indirect costs attributable to illicit drug use are estimated in three principal areas: crime, health, and productivity. <br /><br />· Between 1981 and 2008, federal, state, and local governments are estimated to have spent at least $600 billion (adjusted for inflation) on drug interdiction and related law enforcement efforts; factoring in costs associated with treatment and rehabilitation, the overall total rises to around $800 billion.34 If one were to also add in 'invisible' losses brought about by curtailed job opportunities and reduced workplace productivity, the true cost would be far higher."<br /><br />· State correctional spending patterns reflect the rise in the prison population that began in the early 1980's and persisted until 2010. Expansion of the state prison population required increased spending for capital infrastructure, the state employee workforce, and the administrative needs of the judicial system. From fiscal 1986 to fiscal 2012, spending from state funds18 for corrections increased by 427 percent from $9.9 billion to $52.4 billion (without adjusting for inflation). 88% of those who are incarcerated are there for drug related or drug induced crimes.​
