I’m Javier, a Wisconsin native. Recently, I was paroled from prison and relocated with a family member and their family. Initially, things were going well. I had a full-time job, and everything seemed to be in order. However, I fell severely ill and was unable to perform my duties anymore. Although I’ve recovered, my body has changed, and the underlying cause of my illness has been narrowed down to Chrohns or Lupus but I’ve been told it could be both. 

These challenging times have made it even harder for those who have to support me. I haven’t been able to work for 18 months because no one is willing to take a chance on me due to my criminal background check. I’ve tried various options, including selling snacks and drinks, and even attempting DoorDash on my e-bike (which was declined because of a fender bender six years ago). Despite these setbacks, I remain hopeful and continue to apply for jobs.

In the meantime, I’m excited to celebrate my 7th year of sobriety with my children. To make this milestone special, I would greatly appreciate any donations to help cover the cost of my bus or train travel  and some pocket money for them. I’m also committed to contributing my own earnings. I’m asking for help because, if I’m fortunate, I’m only granted by my parole officer once a month to visit Wisconsin on a travel permit . The trip usually costs me approximately $650, and I hope to eventually find a permanent place closer to them. It took me two years to be allowed to start visiting, and I’ve proven to them that I’m strong, sober, and capable of making positive changes.
