<div>In the wake of the devastating bushfires that tore through the Port Macquarie region, the Port Macquarie Koala Hospital was overwhelmed by the kindness and support of people from across Australia and around the world.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>During those critical weeks, our team — alongside NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service — worked tirelessly to search for and rescue koalas from fire-affected areas. Many were found injured, dehydrated and suffering from burns.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Each koala brought into care received intensive treatment — rehydration, burn care, and ongoing medical support — with dressings changed regularly as they began their recovery.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>What began as an emergency response quickly grew into something much bigger.
</div>

<div>Originally envisioned as the ‘Koala Ark’, this facility was created to help protect and rebuild wild koala populations in a safe, natural environment.

<div>The centre is now open to the public, and our breeding program is underway.

Koalas are listed as endangered: Help us save them!

On Zeke Puig's 7th birthday today we are launching this fundraising campaign as he bravely fights acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and advanced myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) . This past summer Zeke received two bone marrow transplants and has been in and out of the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. After he was diagnosed in February, the family uprooted their lives in Lynchburg, VA to move to Philadelphia so he could get the help he needed. <br /><br />Due to COVID-19, Zeke didn’t see his siblings (Elijah-10, Noelle-5, Micah-3) for 150 days!! At long last, and after the appropriate medical clearance was given, Zeke surprised them. <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQJ5OSEmygA" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Watch the heart warming video here </a>that went viral and was played on <em>Good Morning America</em> who has been <a href="https://www.goodmorningamerica.com/wellness/story/year-boys-life-saved-bone-marrow-donors-coronavirus-73370053" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">keeping up with the Puig family</a> . <br /><br />Zeke’s father is a pastor in Lynchburg. He and his mother, Danielle, need as much help as they can get to be able to afford the expenses of living in a new city without their typical income but with the added expenses they’ve incurred throughout Zeke’s recovery journey. Not only do the expenses of Zeke’s medical treatment far exceed what insurance will cover, the family is paying for medicine, housing, travel, food, childcare, and countless other incidental expenses. <br /><br /><br /><strong>In honor of Zeke’s seventh birthday on Sunday, October 18, we hope to raise $7,000 to carry them through the end of the year with living expenses.</strong> Zeke is back in the hospital right now fighting viruses and other complications, so fingers crossed he's back home to celebrate with the whole family soon! Any additional money raised will cover the exorbitant medical bills they face as well as housing, food, childcare, travel, and other bills in the future. <br /><br /><br />The money raised will be deposited directly into Pastor Puig’s bank account. 7 year old Zeke's battle with leukemia

Local businesses are the heart and soul of our communities. And they are facing a crisis. Social distancing and government-mandated shutdowns are disproportionately affecting businesses that need foot traffic to survive. Whether it’s the local bakery, pizzeria or nail salon–they need us. According to the <a href="https://www.uschamber.com/report/special-report-coronavirus-and-small-business" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">US Chamber of Commerce</a>, 43% of small businesses surveyed believe that they have less than six months until a permanent shutdown is unavoidable<br /><br />The GoFundMe.org Small Business Relief Fund will provide micro-grants to qualifying small businesses negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Small Business Relief Fund is part of the <a href="../c/small-business-relief-initiative-and-fund-faqs" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Small Business Relief Initiative</a>: a program supported by GoFundMe and our partners. The Small Business Relief Initiative will supply financial assistance and support to businesses across the country by providing grants, tools, and resources to help during the crisis.<br /><br />The GoFundMe community and the Small Business Relief Initiative partners have currently donated millions of dollars in donations into the GoFundMe.org Small Business Relief Fund.
