From Hanover, Jamaica — Helping Families Rebuild After Hurricane Melissa
My name is Jodian, and I’m originally from Hanover, Jamaica—a place that holds my roots, my memories, and my family. Today, I’m reaching out with a heavy heart and a deep sense of urgency.
Hurricane Melissa devastated many communities across Jamaica, but the impact in Hanover and surrounding parishes has been especially severe. I have immediate family members and close friends who have lost nearly everything. Some homes were completely stripped of their roofs. Others are now living under tarps, trying to stay dry through the rain and cold. Many families have gone three or more days without clean water, food, or electricity. The situation is dire.
I’m raising funds to directly support these families—people I know personally, people I grew up with, and neighbors who have always looked out for one another. This isn’t a distant cause. It’s home.
How Your Donations Will Help
Every dollar raised will go toward urgent, life-sustaining relief for families in Hanover and other affected areas. Specifically, the funds will be used to:
Purchase and distribute food packages with rice, flour, canned goods, and baby formula
Provide clean drinking water and water purification tablets to communities without access
Buy tarps, roofing materials, and basic tools to help families patch or rebuild shelter
Supply dry clothing, blankets, and hygiene kits for children, elders, and displaced families
Support transportation and fuel costs to reach remote areas where aid hasn’t yet arrived
This is a grassroots effort. I’m working directly with trusted community members on the ground to ensure that every cent goes where it’s needed most—no red tape, no delays.
If you’ve ever been touched by Jamaican culture, music, food, or spirit, I ask you to give back in this moment of need. Even a small donation can bring light, warmth, and hope to someone who’s lost everything.
Please donate, share, and stand with us. Let’s show these families that they are not forgotten.
With gratitude and love,
Jodian
