We are reaching out to you on behalf of our dear friend, LaMoine McCants. The Fight Over the last nine months, LaMoine has been dealing with serious health issues. The journey started at the beginning of 2018, when LaMoine noticed a drop in his energy levels and several physical anomalies. He continued to work and stayed active but he knew something was wrong. After a series of doctor’s visits and diagnostic studies, a mass in his kidney was discovered. He was later diagnosed with kidney cancer. In January of this year, LaMoine underwent the successful removal of his kidney. It was the first step in his healing process. After the surgery, the biopsy of the tumor was analyzed and revealed a rare form of kidney cancer. Further scans confirmed the cancer had metastasized to other parts of his body. Despite the news, LaMoine’s fearless attitude remained intact. With family and friends by his side, he committed to winning the biggest fight of his life. To date, he has tolerated treatment very well and is undergoing chemotherapy. Due to the rare form of cancer, LaMoine has to travel from the New York Metro area to the MD Anderson Medical Center in Houston, Texas.  The team of physicians and specialists at MD Anderson are the best qualified to address his treatment needs. As you can imagine, even with medical insurance, the out of pocket costs are adding up, in addition to the travel expenses incurred every treatment cycle. The Hope LaMoine’s doctors remain optimistic about the treatment process. They know the road ahead will not be easy, but they continue to demonstrate their commitment every step of the way. Their hope and positivity have been life to LaMoine’s spirit. We are asking for everyone to help ease the financial burden of this fight. Together, we can allow LaMoine to pour all of his energy into getting better. The Inspiration If you know anything about LaMoine, you would agree that his presence is always felt in the room. While he is tall in stature, it does not compare to how big and how wide his heart is for others. He takes the blessings he has been given seriously and he is devoted to protecting those in need. He encompasses strength, integrity, and humility. He is honest, God-fearing, with a moral fabric that is unmatched. He leads by example and never gives up. He is an inspiration to those around him. And he needs us. During LaMoine’s career in Law Enforcement, he often would reflect on the following words shared with him from a colleague when life deals you a difficult blow. “If you’ve been shot. Are you going to give up? “NO” Well put your gun belt on and go to work.”  This is the approach that LaMoine has taken in his battle with cancer. I am the Police and will lay it all on the line. UPDATE The Determination  Since our last update LaMoine has continued to show a fierce determination to fight for his life. Within the past few months, he has endured multiple clinical trials at M.D. Anderson. As his inward strength continues to prevail, he is now excited to begin treatment at the renown Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. LaMoine still needs assistance with medical expenses.
