Hi friends! I am really needing some assistance for my sweet rescue pup, Gizmo “Gizzy”. He has a ruptured cranial cruciate ligament on his rear right leg that requires surgery. He is miserable and in pain. He is on anti-inflammatories, pain and anxiety meds to help keep him comfortable for now. I have met with a few different doctors and have been told the same thing by each one. Because he is only 3 years old, active and other wise healthy, without surgery there is a 90% chance that he will have the same injury on his rear left leg due to favoring the left leg because of his injury on the right side. I cannot allow that to happen because then I would have no choice as to what his future and longevity would be. Surgery is expensive! I have obtained quotes from a few places and the price ranges from roughly $3200-$7000. I have decided to use Dr. Dustin Brown because he is very knowledgeable and is on the lowest end of the quotes with a price of $3200 on the low end to $3562 on the high end. The quote is inclusive of x-rays, other diagnostic testing, meds, surgery, and 2 post op visits. His recovery will be 8 weeks long with minimal weight bearing and needing to be on a leash or in a crate to ensure the surgery works and he does not fracture or further injury his leg. The doctor also said the longer I wait to do the surgery the higher the risk of the left knee going out as well due to overcompensating for the right.
Unfortunately, I am definitely in a financial bind and not able to afford this surgery on my own anytime soon. I want Gizzy to have the best life he can as the way his life started out was horrendous. He is a very sweet boy that deserves to be able to run and play!
I appreciate any and all assistance you feel compelled to provide. Prayers included and requested!
I have included pictures from when Gizzy first came to us as a foster in very bad condition. Someone put him in a trash bag and threw him in a ditch. A Good Samaritan found him and took him to Tulsa Animal Welfare. They contacted me for emergency foster care and the rest is history!
