This fundraiser is for a beloved Oakland resident who spent two years as the au pair for an ultimate frisbee family, becoming an integral part of their lives and the local community. Chantal entered the United States lawfully in 2023 with a J-1 visa as an au pair, complied with the terms of her visa, and has a recent pending application with the immigration authorities that would provide her with status. She is now living and working in Oakland on a work permit. Recently, while trying to return home to Oakland, she was detained by ICE at the Denver airport. In a shocking turn of events, she was taken from the jetway and hustled into an unmarked van on the tarmac. With the help of friends and supporters, we have tracked her down to an ICE facility, and are now doing everything we can to secure the legal support she needs for the long fight ahead.

The funds raised will go toward her legal fees, covering the many hours of representation required to help her regain her freedom and return to her loved ones in Oakland. The legal process is complex and costly, but with your support, we can give her the best chance to come home and reunite with the family and community who care deeply for her.

We are asking for your help during this urgent and difficult time. Please consider donating and sharing this fundraiser to support her journey back to Oakland. Your generosity will make a real difference in her life and help bring her home to the people who love her.

Because Chantal is currently incarcerated, she isn't able to manage funds directly. All donations from this campaign are being withdrawn and transferred to her host family, who is coordinating her legal representation and handling logistics on her behalf. Funds raised will go toward legal representation as well as essential expenses including rent, since she is unable to work during her detention.

Carlos Ivan Mendoza Hernandez is a loving father and partner who was shot today by ICE in a tragic case of mistaken identity. On his way to work, Carlos was stopped by ICE and, in a moment of fear, tried to flee. The situation escalated, and he was shot. Now, Carlos is in the hospital, fighting for his life, while his fiancée Cindy and their 2-year-old daughter wait and hope for his recovery.

This unexpected tragedy has left Cindy and her daughter facing an uncertain future. With Carlos unable to work, they are struggling to cover the necessities of life—food, a safe home, medical bills. Specifically, the money raised here will be used by Cindy to help cover the mortgage and daily expenses of the family, since they have lost Carlos's ability to contribute to the family. The emotional and financial toll is overwhelming, and they need the support of their community now more than ever.

We are reaching out to ask for your help. Any contribution, no matter the size, will go directly to Cindy and her daughter to help them through this incredibly difficult time. We thank everyone for their support and prayers as Carlos fights to recover. Your kindness and generosity mean the world to this family.

Support for Carlos, Cindy & Daughter After Tragedy

On my 32nd birthday, I am calling on support from all friends and family for a training that I believe will deeply change not only who I am but also communities at large. I have received a generous $2000 scholarship and am now asking for your support as I endeavor to cover the remaining costs.

Deep Remembering is an immersive ancestral earthskills-based program. In addition to developing survival skills, it teaches folks how to understand, reconnect with, and soothe their own nervous systems, rekindle ancestral wisdom, and live in true reciprocity with community. The work is physical, spiritual and communal—spanning a ten month period with seasonal 4-day in-person immersions like "ancestors, grief, and shadow," "building fire and shelter," and "village living & foraging."

I feel deeply drawn to this work because it ties together everything I’ve been studying, sensing, and healing over the last decade—how story shapes identity, how protection and masking take root, what true nourishment feels like, and how intuition and sensitivity can be both a gift and armor. Over the years, I’ve explored many paths toward wholeness—nonfiction writing, yoga, dance, therapy, community living, earthskills gatherings, communication and coaching work, plant medicines, solo adventures, and family healing. Each has offered a fragment of the larger picture. This program feels like the place where those threads can finally be woven together—where I can be supported in bringing compassion to every part of myself and learn to hold space for others to do the same.

I have applied to several grad school programs in therapy, education, and the arts, and none of them has excited me the way the way this program has. Unlike most formal education, Deep Remembering treats students to a whole-human education. This is not the kind of course where you walk away with a degree. It does not dovetail neatly into a career. Instead, participants walk away more present, resilient, and alive.

Past participants have noted: "This class has done more for me than years of therapy ever have." Others have said: "I’ve never experienced community or myself like this. It is the deepest healing. I am relieved because I feel like it has handed me my time, my days, the rest of my life...to live compassionately and vibrantly, in connection with the present moment and all within it. I feel it has given me my most loving, compassionate, conscious self. I feel patient and kind with myself and others.”

It's the kind of education I wish for everyone. And I intend, by attending, to incorporate what I learn about regulation, resilience, and community care into my existing offerings: in mediation, youth education, and vocal expression, not to mention my relationships with family, friends and beyond. It will make me more resilient, more self-compassionate, and more willing to consider leaning into the discomfort when my body, or my mind, or my heart long ago once learned to pull away.

I hope that you will support me along this journey—and even if you can't do so financially, a message, prayer, or any offering that feels true to you would be so appreciated as I take this next step. After all that's what this whole program is about, isn't it? Thanks to this wider network of support, I am not afraid of getting lost in the woods; I know I will remember what I need to make my way through.

I'm raising funds for a great student of mine - Gabby Martinez. She recently completed our field school in Costa Rica and has been offered a position that will further her career goals - here is her story.

My name is Gabriela, and this October I’ll be heading to Formosa, Argentina to take part in a long-term research project studying owl monkeys in the Argentinean Chaco. This 29-year study focuses on the behavior, ecology, and demography of monogamous owl monkeys, and I’m thrilled to join as a field research assistant. For six months, I’ll be assisting PhD student Jonathan Pertile with data collection for the primatological project. I'm incredibly honored to be part of such meaningful research, and am asking for support to make this opportunity possible. All donations will go directly toward covering the cost of my round-trip flight to Argentina, which is the primary expense I need help with. Thank you so much for your support!

I am an elementary school teacher fundraising for a newcomer family from Hayti. The Bell family is expecting a baby by the end of May. They are a family of 4 who just arrived at our community after a long and rough journey from the Caribbean and South America. The family is staying in a shelter currently while waiting for a court appoinment to review their case. Parents do not have jobs yet. We need donations to help them settle and welcome the new baby boy.

CAUTION: Graphic Photos Within

On Sept 19th, 2020 I took a very familiar ride in Oakland that I’ve ridden a million times on Tunnel Road over to Redwood Road then back on Joaquin Miller.

During my descent in Pinehurst my life changed in an instant. I recall looking beyond the stop sign where the road had eroded many years back and to be careful of cars coming up the hill. I could hear car engines getting wound up and see a bunch of Mini Coopers racing uphill then I don’t remember anything for several hours.
I can only speculate one of these cars hit me. My Garmin showed me going 22 mph and then stopped within a few feet. The damage to my body showed no defensive wounds where I may have tried to break my fall.

The palms of my hands showed no marks at all. No rash marks on my hips or brake handles scrubbed. None of the telltale signs of going down on a bike.

Oddly, the top of my knees are scraped down to the bone on both sides.

And I’m puzzled how the top of my knuckles were banged up and bleeding pretty good.
While other cyclists found me, I hear that my face hit the ground very hard, breaking the optical floor.

The damage is done and besides a broken face, I’m fairly lucky the damage was not worse. Now reality sets in, and I’m faced with immense medical bills. In June due to COVID, I had to close my 12 yr old business I taught cooking camps, held classes, catered and held team building events With my income torn away, I’m fortunate to have found a job with a great company but the new medical expenses are beyond my ability to manage.

The follow up surgery to repair my broken eye socket was a choice beyond money or having the eye fall into my sinus cavity and perhaps not being able to look up any longer.

For the past 20 months I’ve been meditating daily for spiritual serenity. I’m asking for the universe to provide assistance for this life event. The person who did this to me will get whatever karma they are due. I will seek serenity and hope to ride my bike again some day. Please help with my current and future medical bills. Thank you in advance for your contribution.
Our beloved friend Christopher Shein really needs our support now!

For the last several years he has been suffering with Neurological Lyme Disease and on-and-off severe depressions and cycles of hyper mania from Bipolar ll. The lack of sleep and exhaustion has made it extremely difficult to parent and work consistently. A series of unfortunate family traumas have triggered his health decline. Now as he and his wife of 12+ years separate over the next 6 months he is in real need of emotional support and financial help to cover his medical, healing and therapeutic practitioners as well as for costs of finding work, establishing a new home and on-going living expenses.

For many years Christopher has given selflessly and generously to the East Bay community starting organizations for the homeless, helping people garden, starting a permaculture program at the community college, teaching over a thousand students the way of permaculture and caring for his community, friends and family. It is our turn to care for Christopher.

This has been particularly difficult for him as it is happening during the Pandemic. Please give generously of your love, care and money! Let's help Christopher heal and transition into the next chapter of his life. He is a living treasure and a true gift to the world. If he has touched your life please consider donating (any amount is welcome) as money is the most supportive way for him to survive and thrive through this transition.

There is a group forming to support Christopher in other ways.
Please sign in and let us know how you can help.
