Adham is 36 years old and lost his home at the very beginning of the war. After seeking shelter in a tent, even that was taken from him when it was destroyed. In early 2024, Adham welcomed his newborn son, Nadim, into a life marked by displacement and hardship. Living in temporary conditions has already affected Nadim’s health, causing skin rashes and ongoing discomfort. I came to learn of Abed Younes and his family (beneficiaries of this fundraiser) through my brother, Nasser, who is based in Palestine (not Gaza) and who has worked with Abed. Abed's family’s life has been shattered by the war - their home has been destroyed, the kids are out of school and the family are currently displaced to Rafah. They are desperate, as the dual threats of disease and military assault loom over their heads.

<div>He is married to Hana, a math teacher. Together, they have 4 boys, Kareem, Mohammed, Yamen and 1-year-old Adam. Like thousands of other Gazans, they live in a tent in Rafah with limited access to basic necessities, all while living with constant threats to their wellbeing.

<div>But there is a ray of hope amidst the darkness. Abed’s family has a plan to escape the dangers of Gaza and rebuild their lives in Egypt. However, they need your support to make this dream a reality.

<div><strong>How will the funds be used?</strong>
</div>
<div>We are running this fundraiser to cover the expenses of travel from Rafah to Egypt. The family must pass through Rafah Border Crossing, where they face exorbitant fees totaling $20,000 USD. This includes $5,000 USD per adult and $2,500 USD per child under 16 years old. With six family members, this amounts to $10,000 USD for Abed and his wife Hana, and another $10,000 USD for their four children.

<div>But the challenges don't end there. Once in Egypt, the family will need at least $30,000 USD to cover accommodation and living expenses for three years. Gaza cannot be rebuilt overnight, and Abed's family needs a stable environment to start anew. This venture will not only provide for their family but also contribute to the community.

From that fundraiser, ShiShi was able to access thousands of dollars worth of medical supplies and other necessities, both for ShiShi and the little one.

<div>While I don’t believe most of you would think otherwise, it bears repeating that being chronically ill, being multiply disabled in this country, and being a working class single parent, is a horrifically expensive existence.

<div>Not only have ShiShi’s conditions worsened, with new conditions actively surfacing, but ShiShi’s child is also disabled, and has received recent additional diagnoses which require extensive weekly therapies and medical equipment, including reinforced furniture items, specialized shoes, leg braces, compression garments, and more.

<div>Furthermore, due to the inherent and overt anti-Blackness of our medical system and many of its providers, ShiShi has been denied referrals, necessary medications, and insurance coverage for countless essential services and supplies, meaning that much of these medical costs has fallen to ShiShi to pay for out of pocket.

Having some money has also helped her to avoid longer wait times when average diagnoses for many chronic illnesses can be 3-15 years. Two of her upcoming specialist appointments cost over 3,000$ just for a consultation.

<li>Insurance has denied her daughter for her therapies, and she’s fighting for new insurance, but in the meantime all of this has fallen on ShiShi to either provide at home for her child or pay hundreds, out of pocket, per week. Her daughters physical therapy alone is 300$ per visit, and she is supposed to be in physical therapy twice a week after an injury last summer. This doesn’t include the costs of her daughter’s weekly speech therapy or occupational therapy.

<li>ShiShi recently has found out that she has a brain tumor, and that has been making it incredibly hard to work. A few years ago, due to her chronic illness, she stopped working in person and started working from home. Now, with the onset of seizures, even working from home can also be very challenging, which has deeply impacted her income.

And truly, when you look at any of ShiShi’s social media platforms or just share a text conversation, it can appear that education and support flow from ShiShi as effortlessly and naturally as rainfall. However, as many of us know, the most tireless community advocates are often the most overextended, vulnerable, multiply disabled, and burnt out individuals among us.

<div><strong>For the past five years ShiShi has navigated escalating levels of chronic illness that have coalesced into a full-blown emergent health crisis.</strong> The ongoing pandemic has not only left ShiShi debilitated and dangerously weakened by COVID-induced/exacerbated disease, but the rampant COVID denialism and capitalist individualism pushed upon our society has left ShiShi without any form of consistent, long-term support whatsoever, aside from the efforts of a precious few close friends. ShiShi has lost countless friends, family, and work opportunities to illness, other people’s COVID denialism, for standing firmly as an anti-Zionist, and for daring to ask loved ones to actually deliver on their promises of showing up to help. <div>The two months of food and aid blockade and recent bombings in the Khan Yunis area where Fady, Enas and Ilana have been sheltering have once again displaced them, this time to the streets without shelter, leaving belongings behind just hours before a targeted airstrike blew up their neighborhood. On Sunday, May 18th, Fady alerted us that “the occupation army is beginning a great new start in the Gaza Strip and is beginning its existential presence”.

<div>The ground invasion has begun again. Tanks have been advancing east of Khan Younis and firing fire and shells, specifically the Fakhari area. @fady_al_zabda sent video at sunrise in Khan Yunis where sounds of gunshots and missiles were flying overhead. Earlier that day, photos of airstrikes a kilometer away. Just the day before, llana was starving but they were still gathering sea water. They did not know that just hours later, they’d be hiding. That hours later, bullets would be flying over llana and her mother @enasdagga ‘s heads. Enas’ phone has burned and is broken, so now the family shared Fady’s phone to stay connected with us.

<div>Recent days have been excruciatingly dangerous, having them sleeping on the street for fear of being bombed and of course the incessant hunger. Baby Ilana has fallen ill and has diarrhea today. The price of flour has been climbing daily. According to a Time’s article, “Since Israeli forces resumed offensive operations on March 18, the price of flour has climbed by 5,000 percent, residents say, and cooking oil by 1,200 percent”, and, “Famine, which has loomed over the enclave for much of the 19-month war, is now imminent, according to international aid groups. The groups, led by the U.N., base their assessment on a complex formula known as the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification.

<div>The most recent report, released May 12, found the whole of Gaza qualified as an “Emergency,” or at critical risk of famine. Some 470,000 residents (22 percent) had reached “Catastrophe,” defined as “starvation, death, destitution and extremely critical acute malnutrition levels.”

<div>Kefah is Fady’s brother. He was partially paralyzed by an Israeli airstrike several years ago and is in a wheelchair. His name كفاح translates to “struggle”. As such, the constant displacement and danger is even more of a challenge. He requires medicine and his wheelchair requires a new battery. Fady’s older sister lives with an intellectual disability, but she still smiles despite their circumstances.

<div>Baby Ilana is now walking on her own. She went to the doctor for a check-up a couple of weeks ago, and also got her second polio vaccine. She is thankfully relatively healthy, as are Enas and Fady. Unfortunately, another winter is coming and their family needs food, warm blankets, clothing, medicine, diapers, and shelter. Everything they had was destroyed by an airstrike on their refugee camp in early October.

<div>Enas is a sociologist, and her husband Fady is a hairdresser. He ran a salon in Khan Yunis which was bombed, along with their home, belongings, and any savings they had. After having been displaced, they sheltered in a makeshift tent in Rafah and caring for their young baby with very little to no access to healthcare, sanitation, water, or food.

<div>Then I got a message on Instagram. <a href="https://www.instagram.com/__rahaaaf/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Rahaf</a> is a Sudanese university student in her final year of medical school. She's been displaced to Egypt and is raising funds to be able to continue her education there. She wrote to me with <a href="https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-sudanese-final-year-medical-students-overcome-war" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">a link to her fundraiser</a> . She shared her certificates and registration and the fees she needs to be able to continue her journey to becoming the generation of doctors that can tend to the country's deep needs. She's now $4550 USD or $6450 CAD away from her goal.

<div>I know the race is under 24 hours at this point, but I remember that this community helped me raise over $10,000 in SIX DAYS for my first 10K in May. These times feel so crushingly impossible to navigate alone, but I've already seen how you all demonstrated that collective action helps catalyze despair into powerful action.

<div>With that: I wanted to post about this much, much sooner. I will admit that, like I know so many of us are, I'm beginning to buckle under the weight of the world. I have almost never been more grateful that I found running. It is perhaps the only thing that helps me calm my nervous system, which is shot. A few runs go I discovered that sometime over the last few runs, I surpassed over 300 runs since I started running in March of 2020. This fundraiser is a celebration of that, too. There is a direct link to how fast I run and how angry I am. Needless to say, in this last stretch especially, the runs are fast, and they're rage- and Dipset Anthem and DMX- fueled. My girls at Hill Run Club have been a central part of my longevity in this thing that I hate so much, but that I love and feel lucky to be able to do.

<div>My children spent six difficult days in western Gaza City under firebelts, phosphorus bombs, and sea boat shells. They had to flee the house twice in the middle of the night, and on October 13 the army called them and ordered them to evacuate to the south. They couldn't carry much luggage with them, they had to leave a lot of things. They tasted the two things to get to Rafah after they had to be displaced three times, they finally arrived at Rafah, which is classified as the last uncontrolled area in the Gaza Strip. <div>My children were lucky when they left for the south because on October 21, the army entered the west of Gaza, and they bombed my house where my unmarried children reside, they took the remains of the house as a military barrack and no one could get there to take a photo. Also, On October 30, the building where my son Nidal used to live, who got married three months before the war, was bombed causing severe damage to his apartment. It is noteworthy that the rest of the property was stolen in the two homes.

<div><strong>How my children live in the south?</strong>

<div>After fleeing their homes in Gaza and being displaced five times they lived in a small room in our relatives' home with several families before they had to search for a tent because the area is not safe anymore.

<div>Daily life has become impossible for my children because they are suffering from cold due to lack of clothes, constant fear of being bombed, distress, monopoly of goods, high prices, the hostility of residents, airborne illnesses, lack of resources such as electricity, clean drinking water, and hygiene kits. Also, they face malnutrition since they have to reduce food rations so they can all suffice, most days eat canned in the absence of fruits, vegetables, and proteins.

<div>Notably, Hanan, my youngest daughter, suffers from asthma and air pollution has taken a major toll on her health and ability to breathe. That's why she needed to double the doses of asthma medication.

<div>Each of them had great success in his field of work. They tried to build a decent life without anyone's help. They had so many dreams, plans, and projects that they could not carry out as the war began but they lost their jobs and livelihoods.

<div>One day, we just had one meal when we knew that our children had divided food between them so that they would suffice, and once we had a whole week of playgrounds because our children ate nothing else but that we were suffering from insomnia and we could not stop feeling guilty and helpless.

<span style="color:rgb(51,51,51);">Stolac is a scenic town nestled in Bosnia and Herzegovina, however, it has a large population of underprivileged people, and our local environment is being threatened due to the lack of recycling facilities available. <br /><br />We have developed an innovative initiative to address the needs of our local community, but we need your help to scale up our efforts. 

Our idea is simple. People from underprivileged backgrounds collect their cans, plastic and glass bottles and they are paid a rate of €0.10 ($0.11) per bottle. This is paid to them in the form of credit to use in grocery stores where they can buy anything they need except cigarettes and alcohol. <br /><br /></span><img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/80562803_1717629992836807_r.jpg" width="100%" media_type="3" alt="80562803_1717629992836807_r.jpg" /><span style="color:rgb(51,51,51);"><br /><br />For example: If someone gives us 1000 bottles, we provide them with $110 worth of store credit. This amount is enough to feed a family of 8 for 3 or 4 days.<br /><br /> In less than one month we’ve managed to collect 30,000 bottles and provided over €3000 ($3264) towards credit for people from underprivileged backgrounds. <br /><br /> So far, we have been using our savings to support this initiative, but we are aiming to increase the number of bottles and cans we collect and the amount of credit we can give out to people who are in need. <br /><br /> There is no recycling in Bosnia and Herzegovina, but there is a widespread syndrome of overreliance on humanitarian aid. <br /><br />This initiative will address issues Stolac is facing such as begging, minimizing environmental damage, and raising awareness, while also advocating for politicians to act. <br /><br /> Demir Mahmutćehajić, a lifelong human rights activist is leading this initiative. He’s lived in Stolac for the last 13 years and has focused his activism on helping destitute and oppressed communities. He has also led conservation efforts and has taken care of stray animals in the region. <br /><br /> This is a long-term activity and through this, we seek to fill this gap and make a positive impact on our local community and environment. <br /><br /> Transparency

<div>Mohammed's family has shown me an unparalleled level of kindness as we work together on a venture to conserve and promote Mohammed's art. Their son, brother, and friend, Mohammed was an extremely talented artist whose work captured the complicated, beautiful experience of living in Gaza. I cannot even begin to imagine the pain and trauma they have experienced in losing him. However, even during extremely tough times they have shown me extraordinary patience and compassion. Despite the unhappy conditions we have met under, they have become dear friends to me. Everyday I find myself waiting for their messages when (and if) they can find a few minutes of connection so I can check that they are safe. Rebuilding Hope: Support Mohammed's Family

On October 20th, their home got hit, and miraculously, they survived, but not without injuries. They're still under constant threat, struggling for basic necessities like shelter, food, and water. My mother took custody of her and raised her like a daughter. On that dark night, they were bombed, and her three children, as well as others, were injured. She is currently living in a tent in the cold with her three children and others. She is now unable to find formula, diapers, or other necessities for her infant. She lost everything when her apartment burned down, and she worries about losing her only child because of a cold, disease, or a bomb.&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><b>&nbsp;Haya and her husband Younes</b><img class="" src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/76805459_1705106081924898_r.jpg" width="100%" media_type="3" style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%;"></div><div><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%;">&nbsp;Haya got married, and she started a new life. She had dreams and hopes; they all went away with the bombs at her home and her husband's workplace and source of income. They have nowhere to return.as same as my brother Anas and his wife with his 3 children.&nbsp;</span><br></div><div>&nbsp;My siblings and their children have a right to a safe and calm environment in which to rehabilitate from the awful tragedies of war.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>&nbsp;My family is a hardworking group of people, and I am confident that by providing them with a way to Canada, they will be back on their feet in no time. With your help, a new life chance is possible for them.
What is Canada's Emergency Program?
Following months of requests from Canadians with extended family members in the battle zone, Immigration Canada Minister Marc Miller launched a new temporary visa plan for people in Gaza with Canadian relatives. Miller described Gaza's state as "unlivable." He plans to launch a temporary visa program on January 9, 2024. He emphasized the difficulties of leaving the besieged Palestinian area. Mr. Miller said that Canada has received no assurances from Israel, Hamas, or Egypt that extended family members on the Canadian list will be able to depart. Furthermore, no financial support will be provided to evacuees or their families in Canada.
The following expenses are not paid by the Canadian government for travel and applications&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>	Notary and translation expenses (around $600 total)</div><div>&nbsp;	Application costs for 18 people (a total of $1,800)</div><div>&nbsp;	Living and travel expenses in Egypt for 1 month while documentation is processed (about $4,000).&nbsp;</div><div>	Biometrics costs (required for adults): $85 per adult, for a total of $850.&nbsp;</div><div>	Flight tickets for 18 passengers from Cairo to Toronto (estimated at $1,800 per person, for a total of $32,400)&nbsp;</div><div>	Settlement costs (for the first three months until they can work)</div><div>	Rent 4 apartments (about $2,000 per apartment each month, $24,000 total).&nbsp;</div><div>	Furniture and sleeping beds  (around $6,000)&nbsp;</div><div>	Personal essentials, winter clothing, etc. &nbsp;<span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%;">(around $3,000)&nbsp;</span></div><div>	Daily living expenses (calculated as $1,800/month x three households x 3 months, total $16,200)</div><div><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%;"><br></span></div><div><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%;">&nbsp;If something happens and my family is unable to leave Gaza for any reason, I would use this money to construct them a shelter and help them rebuild their lives because they have lost everything.

When it got late, they returned to their car in the underground parking lot in order to drive home. As they were getting into their car, a man and a woman in casual clothing approached them aggressively and demanded that they stop. At that very moment, a large grey van stopped in front of Umar’s car, blocking the exit route from the front. Umar tried to escape by reversing the car and then driving forward. In so doing, he accidentally struck the man on his way out, who later succumbed to his injuries.</em>

<div><em>Umar and Aaida later found out that the man and woman who confronted them in the parking lot were plainclothes police officers, who were investigating an unrelated incident.</em>

This is one of the most serious charges in Canadian law. <div>On the seventh day of October, suddenly in the early morning, we heard a sound, and then we realized that the war had started, From the first minute all my family members evacuated to my aunt's house in central Jabalia, which was considered safer than our house on the eastern border of Jabalia. After the first week, we learned that our house was got damaged by bombs , making it difficult to return and live in it. Also, the Israeli army requested people in the north to evacuate to the south of Gaza Valley.

<div>There were over 400 people in the house we were in. Most of them evacuated to southern Gaza, and a few remained in the north of Gaza Valley, including us. Initially, my father refused to evacuate south due to my illness and his old age, finding it difficult to live in shelters. Therefore, we decided to stay in northern Gaza.

<div>After forty days of intense bombing and fear, shells started falling on the house we were staying in the city center May God protect us . That's when we decided to flee south. It was very difficult for me as a girl with muscular dystrophy to move like everyone else, so my father decided to provide me with a wheelchair.

<div>After much struggle, we managed to get the wheelchair from kind-hearted people and fled to the south of the valley, to the Deir al-Balah area. After enduring great suffering at the checkpoint from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., we arrived at Deir al-Balah and stayed in shelters in schools, which were overcrowded.

<div>After much suffering and mediation by relatives, we built a small tent that could accommodate at least four people, but my family, consisting of twenty members, found it difficult because I, as a girl with muscular dystrophy, didn't have suitable conditions in the tent - no walls to lean on and no suitable bathroom. I suffered a lot and got sick by hepatitis A in this tent as all my family members suffered from influenza ,intestinal disease and hepatitis A due to lack of good food and clean water .

<div>في اليوم السابع من أكتوبر، فجأة في الصباح الباكر، سمعنا صوتا، ثم أدركنا أن الحرب قد بدأت، منذ اللحظة الأولى تم إجلاء جميع أفراد عائلتي إلى منزل عمتي في وسط جباليا، الذي كان يعتبر أكثر أمانا من منزلنا على الحدود الشرقية لجباليا. بعد الأسبوع الأول، علمنا أن منزلنا قد تضرر بسبب القنابل، مما جعل من الصعب العودة والعيش فيه. أيضا، طلب الجيش الإسرائيلي من الناس في الشمال الإخلاء إلى جنوب وادي غزة.

<div>بعد الكثير من النضال، تمكنا من الحصول على الكرسي المتحرك من أشخاص طيبي القلب وهربنا إلى جنوب الوادي، إلى منطقة دير البلح. بعد تحملنا معاناة كبيرة عند نقطة التفتيش من الساعة 8:00 صباحا إلى الساعة 8:00 مساء، وصلنا إلى دير البلح وبقينا في الملاجئ في المدارس، التي كانت مكتظة.

<div>بعد الكثير من المعاناة والوساطة من قبل الأقارب، قمنا ببناء خيمة صغيرة يمكن أن تستوعب أربعة أشخاص على الأقل، ولكن عائلتي، المكونة من عشرين عضوا، وجدت صعوبة في ذلك لأنني، كفتاة تعاني من ضمور عضلي، لم يكن لدي ظروف مناسبة في الخيمة - لا توجد جدران تتكئ عليها ولا حمام مناسب. عانيت كثيرا ومرضت من التهاب الكبد A في هذه الخيمة حيث عانى جميع أفراد عائلتي من الأنفلونزا وأمراض الأمعاء والتهاب الكبد A بسبب نقص الطعام الجيد والمياه النظيفة.

<div>أثرت الحرب علي بشكل كبير، وكذلك حالتي الصحية ووالدي، الذي يعاني من مرض السكري وارتفاع ضغط الدم والعديد من السكتات الدماغية. أنا الآن في المرحلة الأخيرة من المدرسة الثانوية، أنتظر بفارغ الصبر إكمالها ومتابعة أحلامي مثل أي فتاة أخرى في العالم. لكن الحرب جاءت، ودمرت كل أحلامي وتطلعاتي، بما في ذلك منزلنا الدافئ الذي انتظرنا خمس سنوات لإكماله، وكان والدي قد رتب كل شيء لي، بما في ذلك حمام مناسب.

<div>Hi, my name is Marah Shamali  . I’m 24  years old, from Gaza, which has been under siege and war for as long as I can remember. I graduated from  Palestine university ,college of Dentistry since 2022.We’ve been under an ethnic cleansing genocide since October 7th, and the aggression has not stopped since then We're facing an inevitable threat of death from bombing, famine, and nonexistent healthcare, ourlives has Changed , forever.This aggression has transformed me from an ambitious person seeking a master's degree and pursuing a career outside Gaza to someone stuck under the constant threat of genocide.
Israel  airstrikes bombed Our home which transformed to "rubbles " with all our memories.(Pictures attached below)and now we are homeless.

My family and I have been displaced five times since the aggression.  We are now in tent  "refugee camp" that lacks the basic necessities of life: no bathroom 
no personal hygiene or water suitable for drinking or daily use! We are living in an open prison We are living our worst nightmare with our eyes open!


We are prone to being displaced again at any given moment, and there is no place to go!  there is no safe place.<span style="font-family:'-apple-system-body';"> I seek your support , not just in thoughts and prayers but in actions.

Sadly, the war has shattered Ramy's dreams. His home and workplace lie in ruins, and he now finds himself with nothing at all. He currently ‘lives’ at the Saint Porphyrios Orthodox Church in the war-torn town of Gaza City. Tragically, many of his loved ones have perished in the bombings.

<div>Ramy's sole focus now is on securing the safety of his young family. He said to me via messenger this morning "I just need to save my son; we do not have enough milk or food for him." Their only hope lies in leaving Gaza, to seek refuge in a safer place.

<div>However, to make the journey is very expensive The cost of crossing the Rafah border amounts to $5,000 USD per person. For Rami's family of three, this means a total of $15,000 USD. Although Ramy once dreamed of building a prosperous future for his family and community in Gaza, this dreadful war has forced him to reconsider. His priority now is simply to ensure the safety of his family, and he believes leaving Gaza is the only viable option.

<div>Like me I’m sure many of you will have been appalled by what you are seeing and reading about Gaza but not know how to help. This fundraiser is an opportunity to directly support a young family . Please help me support Ramy escape Gaza so he can start to build a safer and better life for his family. His plans post escape are hazy – but he does have an Australia visa and may look to emigrate there – but for the moment all he can focus on is getting out and saving his son.

<div>Amidst all the chaos and sadness in Gaza, there's a brave couple named Mohammed and Fahima, along with their little one-year-old daughter Rose, who desperately need our help to piece together their shattered lives.

<div>Mohammed used to help people as a heart doctor, and Fahima took care of expecting mothers. They had big dreams for their future in medicine, full of hope and excitement.
</div>

<div>But the recent war in Gaza destroyed everything they had worked for. Their home is gone, along with precious memories and toys belonging to baby Rose. They lost their jobs too, leaving behind only memories of what could have been.

<div>Even though life is tough now, Mohammed and Fahima are still helping others. We volunteer as doctors in shelters in Rafah, doing what they can to make a difference.
</div>

<div>But our dream of starting over in a new country where we can work as doctors again, and where Rose can grow up safe. However, crossing borders is expensive and hard.

<div>That's why they're asking for help. We need money to pay the Egyptian authorities to cross the border safely (5000$-7500$ per person). It's a big emotional burden for them, but it's the first step towards finding a new home and a fresh start.
