<div>​My name is Raz Maor. I write to you today with a heavy heart, but also with a promise.

<div>​On Friday, December 26th, 2025, our world was shattered. My niece, Aviv Maor, was taken from us in a brutal act of violence just outside her home at the Kibbutz. She was only 18 years old. In a place that was supposed to be her sanctuary, the quiet countryside of our valley, her life was cut short by a senseless act of terror.

<div>Aviv was a rare and unusual soul. Though she was young, she lived with a depth of compassion that many don’t achieve in a lifetime. She was a true daughter of the land , a horse rider &amp; trainer, and a guardian of the vulnerable. She was one of those to rescue injured animals from the roadsides, caring for people without judgment of race, color, or origin. If you were lucky enough to meet her, her contagious smile would stay with you forever.

<div>Today, as we completed the Shiva (the seven days of grieving), we stood by her side at the Kibbutz cemetery and made a vow: We will not let her light go out.

Our goal is to transform this spot into a place of peace and connection. We want it to be a sanctuary where people can gather, breathe the fresh air, share a cup of coffee or tea, and feel the same connection to nature that Aviv loved so much.

<div>​The Deck &amp; Pergula : A large wooden terrace facing the breathtaking view of the valley.
</div>
<div>​Life on the Hill: A full outdoor kitchen for visitors and an irrigation system to keep the area green and blooming.

<div>​Refinement: Landscaping, hardscaping, sitting areas and swings designed for quiet reflection and relaxation.

Building Aviv’s Lookout : A Memorial For Her Light

<div>As a Jewish Bondi resident, the fear on Sunday night was unlike anything we've experienced. Our beautiful friend Gefen was shot three times with a shotgun and is now fighting in the ICU, after his act of heroism on Sunday night. On behalf of his dad and his family, we are raising money for his medical expenses and rehabilitation - a long road ahead.

<div>The many heroes of the Bondi Hannukah Massacre are slowly emerging, but a question keeps returning - who is the man in the red t-shirt who ran alongside Ahmad al Ahmad?

<div>Gefen Bitton is a 30-year-old Israeli who has been living and working in Australia.


</div>


<div><br />


</div>


<div>After a long day of hiking in the Blue Mountains, one of Gefen’s favourite pastimes, all he wanted to do was celebrate Hannukah.


</div>


<div>Sitting at the benches in Bondi with a friend, he insisted on staying until the last moment until the Channukiah lighting was completed. Little did he know, this decision would change his life.

<div>When the shooting began, Gefen jumped up with his friend and ran, but when his friend looked back just a second later, Gefen had disappeared from sight.


</div>

<div>A few minutes later, another friend received a phone call from Gefen’s sister in Israel “My brother just called. He said he’s been shot twice, and then he hung up”.


</div>

<div>From there, a search began. With no information about his condition, his whereabouts or whether he had been evacuated, his friends drove down to Bondi trying to find any indication that Gefen was alive, and from there went from hospital to hospital searching for him.


</div>


<div>Finally, he was found - already in surgery with severe gunshot wounds.


</div>

<div>Over the next two days, Gefen’s dad who had flown out from Israel, with his friends, tried to piece together what happened. Gefen was shot from face on, and using Find My Phone it was found that his last location was closer to the site of the deadly shooting than he had initially been sitting. How was that the case if he had run away from the gunfire?

<div>Then, amongst a group of friends, the missing puzzle piece was found. Someone recognised the guy in a red shirt - the one alongside Ahmad al Ahmad - as Gefen. The friend who sat with him at the event remembered his clothes, his father recognised him immediately.

<div><strong>Gefen had escaped, he was safe, but when he saw the terrorist, he ran into the line of fire to help. He made the decision to put himself at risk to save the lives of others. As Ahmad Al Ahmad heroically jumped on the terrorist, Gefen ran in alongside to confront the terrorist. There, he was shot, fell to the ground, and shot again. Now in the ICU, Gefen’s put his own life at risk with his selfless actions. </strong>

<div>Gefen - an unarmed Israeli civilian, living in peace in Australia - made a decision most of us couldn’t even think of. He ran into the face of danger like only a hero does, guided by the values on which he was educated and raised.

<div>I was Matilda’s language teacher, and I knew her as a bright, joyful, and spirited child who brought light to everyone around her. Yesterday, while celebrating Hanukkah, her young life was tragically taken. Her memory will live on in our hearts.

<div>We are overjoyed that after 484 harrowing days in captivity, <strong>Keith Siegel, a 65-year-old American-Israeli, is set to be released on February 1, 2025.</strong> Keith was abducted from his home in Kibbutz Kfar Aza during the tragic events of October 7, 2023. His wife, Aviva, was also taken but was released in November 2023. Since then, Keith has endured unimaginable hardships, including broken ribs and prolonged confinement.

<div>Throughout their captivity, Keith remained a pillar of strength and hope. He encouraged fellow hostages to stay positive, often asking them to share something uplifting from their day. Aviva recalls, "When I needed him to hold my hand, he held my hand; if I needed him to take me to the bathroom, he walked with me to the bathroom. He was with me 100%." In an act of profound love and sacrifice, Keith chose not to disclose his U.S. citizenship, fearing that he might be released while leaving Aviva behind. As Aviva says, "Now I'm out, and Keith is still there."

<div>Keith is a devoted father of four and a grandfather to five. Originally from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, he made Aliyah to Israel at the age of 21. An occupational therapist by profession, Keith is known for his love of American pancakes and his unwavering dedication to his family.

Each visit has felt like coming home—a return to a place that touches my soul and reconfirms my place within generations of Jewish memory and hope. <div>My dear friend Lily was recently diagnosed with Stage 3B Triple Negative breast cancer at age 36. Lily is by far the strongest person I know, but she faces a journey through treatment which will be physically, emotionally, and financially demanding.

My sincere hope is Lily won’t need to worry about any unexpected financial hardship from her illness, but can instead concentrate on her own healing.

<div>On the first night of Chanukah, our community suffered an unimaginable loss. Our beloved rabbi, teacher, and friend, Rabbi Eli Schlanger, was tragically killed in the Bondi massacre.
</div>
<div>Rabbi Eli was an exceptional human being who devoted every part of his life to others. He changed the lives of everyone he interacted with. Always with a warm smile, a listening ear, and a heart open to every question and struggle. Whether you came to him with a personal dilemma, a spiritual question, or simply needed someone to talk to, he always had time. No one was ever turned away. He supported individuals and families through joy and heartbreak, quietly giving of himself in ways most people never saw. Now, he leaves behind his loving wife and five beautiful children, including a newborn baby who will grow up hearing stories of the remarkable father they lost far too soon. Eli devoted his life to our community. He gave us his time, his energy, his wisdom, and his love. In this time of deep grief, we want to come together to give back to the family who gave him to us.
