Broaddus Christmas Program

She is a wonderful mother and step mom to three children, ages 4, 5, and 7. We are so thankful that she made it out alive. She is currently in the hospital where she awaits surgery on her leg and foot which were severely injured. She has a lacerated liver and spleen that the doctors are keeping an eye on. She has a brain bleed, but thankfully it is not actively bleeding. She has a fractured shoulder and also a part of her back. We would like to thank everyone for the calls, texts, and prayers that she has received already. She has a long road of recovery due to an infection in her leg, so she has not been able to have the surgery needed to fix her leg and foot yet. I am setting up this account to help her pay for any medical expenses that her insurance will not cover. She will be out of work for several weeks and due to covid policies, she will not be able to see her kids. If you can donate, we truly appreciate you! Please keep the prayers coming! Help needed for Brandi’s recovery

Sterling “Buck” Hampton has been working on power lines for 10+ years. He is 30 years old and has been a Class A Line Lineman who has traveled the country bringing power and light to our world. On May 21, 2018 Buck had an accident at work, the details of what actually happened are still undetermined. An electrical current entered through his left arm &amp; then passed throughout his body until it finally blew out a hole through his chest. It is miracle &amp; blessing that he is still alive. He was life-flighted to LSU Burn Center where he is suffering from 2nd &amp; 3rd degree burns on his face, chest, back and arms. The electricity did enough damage to his left arm that the doctors are going to have to amputate the entire limb. Not only is he going to lose his arm but his career. Everything in his life has instantly changed in the blink of an eye. For anyone who is a Lineman, married to or knows a Lineman, then you know this is not just a job to them, it is a lifestyle, a brotherhood and a way life. It takes a certain kind of man to be a Lineman, and Buck is every ounce of that kind of man. Unfortunately, not only is Buck physically suffering but with loosing his arm, it’s highly unlikely that he will ever be a Lineman again. This was more than a career to this man. He LOVED what he did, he was leader, a dedicated, hard worker, and took a lot of pride in what him and his crew accomplished. Buck is husband, father, brother, uncle, son, Lineman, caretaker and a good friend to all those who know him. Buck and his wife Sharon have been together for ten years, and are the proud parents of 4 beautiful children. Wesley 11, Waylon 8, Sophie 6, &amp; Riley who will be 2 in August. Buck is the kind of friend that you call at 2am when you’re car is broke down on the side of the road. He’s the kind of person who can make friends with anyone he meets or anywhere he goes. Everyone that knows him would describe him as a caretaker, always helping others before thinking of himself; whether you’re family, a friend or a stranger, “Daddy Buck” is always looking out for you. All that know him, know if they have a problem or life situation they can call on him, and he will do whatever it takes to help you. He is an outgoing, funny, easy going guy who always has a smile on his face. He brings so much light, life and love to all those who know him. We are trying to raise enough money to help and his family of 6 during this tragic and devastating time. He’s going to be in the hospital for a while with him being his family’s sole provider that means there is no income for his wife and kids. On top of that with him losing his arm going back to work in general is going to be difficult. It will be a long and lengthy recovery for the type of injuries Buck has suffered. We are hoping that we can raise enough money to help make this difficult and trying time a little easier for his family. If anyone deserves a helping hand, it’s this man. All his life he has been helping those in need without question, appreciation or expecting anything in return. It’s time for everyone to come together and help out “the helper.” Even being in the hospital, Buck is more worried about how he is going to take care of his family, rather than the facts of how bad of condition he is in. If anyone deserves a blessing in their life right now, it would this man, so anything given would be greatly appreciated. Luck For Buck

It’s Christmas time again. Please share your love with the children of the Broaddus area.  This is a very poor county and we work hard to make every child happy on Christmas. Some clothes, a much needed coat, 2 toys and a meal. Lots of volunteer hours go into this and it puts a smile on so very many little faces. Any amount will help. Thanks to those who’ve donated in the past. You make this all possible.

Broaddus Christmas Fund

Every one I know knows my sister Eco. She is now in the last stages of cancer and hasn't much time left. Unfortunately, she has no life insurance (her husband was killed in a motorcycle accident 7 years ago and she hasn't been able to work). The cost of her final expenses is falling on her daughter, Bridgit, but she, too, doesn't have the funds. I would like to ask that her friends and family donate to the fund now instead of sending flowers later. It would mean so much more to her than flowers. She is very concerned about her daughter and I want Eco to know that her friends truly care and Bridgit  doesn't have as much of a burden to bear.

It's that time of year again.  Last year we raised over $2900 in the Broaddus area alone. This year we need more, of course. This is Mayor Parker and I'm raising money for the Broaddus Christmas Fund and Care n Share.  We are very dedicated in providing Christmas presents for children in need.  These donations go for coats, clothes, toys and food. Together, we try to provide at least one coat, two outfits, pajamas and age-appropriate toys to approximately 200 children in the Broaddus School District and 400-450 in the San Augustine School District.  We need these donations as soon as possible so we can start shopping.  This donation is fully deductible.  We are a 501(c)3 corporation with only the children in mind.  We will be so very thankful for any amount you can send.  Even $5 can buy a child a present.  If you would like to buy for a specific child, please contact me via Facebook Messenger and the child's first name, age and sizes will be sent to you.  Thank you so much for your help.

Help us restore the San Augustine Co. 1919 Jail - A Project of the San Augustine Garden Club The eastern section of Texas is where many of the first settlers came, traveling westward along El Camino Real de los Tejas, seeking new opportunities and better lives.  It is believed that more than 80% of the people who fought for Texas Independence walked the streets of San Augustine.  The "Texas Mystique” lives here!  Do our children, youth, and young adults know about and appreciate the remarkable roots from which they came?  Have we done our best to inspire and encourage them to learn more, and to cherish the freedoms made possible by the sacrifices of those who came before?  In the 1919 jail, a highly visible location only 50 feet from the San Augustine County Courthouse, we have the opportunity to provide a myriad of learning experiences for all.  Thus, the planned restoration of the endangered 1919 jail is much more than the reclaiming of a past relic deserving of being saved.  As we focus upon the lives and service of the earliest Alcaldes, and move on to the contributions of Sheriffs, Texas Rangers, Game Wardens, Justices of the Peace, and Constables, we will also celebrate decades of cultural diversity and a plethora of historically significant events in the lives of these lawmen and the people they served.  The “reimagining” of the 1919 County Jail as a “Purely Texan” Law Enforcement Museum and Research Library will be an inviting educational venue for citizens and visitors alike.   Historical Significance The 1919 San Augustine County Jail is located on the "public square" in San Augustine, Texas.  It is a prominent, visible presence in the City of San Augustine's Main Street designated area, and borders El Camino Real de los Tejas National Historical Trail through downtown San Augustine.  It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, along with the 1927 San Augustine County Courthouse and the 1936 First Governor of Texas James Pinckney Henderson statue, all three of which are located on the 1833 San Augustine County Courthouse Square (a Texas State Antiquities Landmark).   Now is disuse due to its non-compliance as a law enforcement facility more than 15 years ago, the 1919 jail served as the Probation Office for a number of years.  In mid-2014 the Probation Department moved to new offices in the restored courthouse, allowing county officials and interested citizens to take a fresh look at "the old, moldy, unsightly jail," with a view towards its restoration.  <img class="not-resizable" src="https://2dbdd5116ffa30a49aa8-c03f075f8191fb4e60e74b907071aee8.ssl.cf1.rackcdn.com/4667093_1433340347.6816_funddescription.jpg" alt="" width="100%" />The 1919 Jail, pictured to the left of the courthouse, was photographed by US Farm Securities Administration's Russell Lee in 1938-39.  It's original facade was red brick with yellow brick trim. <img class="not-resizable" src="https://2dbdd5116ffa30a49aa8-c03f075f8191fb4e60e74b907071aee8.ssl.cf1.rackcdn.com/4667093_1433340727.5373_funddescription.jpg" alt="" width="100%" />Pictured circa 1960s before being covered with a cement-like coating in 1973. <img class="not-resizable" src="https://2dbdd5116ffa30a49aa8-c03f075f8191fb4e60e74b907071aee8.ssl.cf1.rackcdn.com/4667093_1433340932.4085_funddescription.jpg" alt="" width="100%" />This photograph from the April 5, 1973 issue of San Augustine Tribune verifies the time that the cement/stucco was added to the original brick building.   <img class="not-resizable" src="https://2dbdd5116ffa30a49aa8-c03f075f8191fb4e60e74b907071aee8.ssl.cf1.rackcdn.com/4667093_1433340869.4692_funddescription.jpg" alt="" width="100%" />The 1919 jail as it stands today. Restoring &amp; Repurposing the 1919 Jail The 1919 jail is a perfect example of a formerly fully-occupied public law enforcement facility being creatively "re-imagined" with an innovative purpose and "reason for being."  Plans are currently underway to create in this locale an educational program and outreach of the first order, housing a Law Enforcement Museum, Archival Repository, and Texana Research Library.  The still-intact jail cells will find new use as "research cubbies" for the large collection of Texana volumes and historic documents to be housed in the restored, environmentally safe jail. Plan of Work to Complete 1.       Remove exterior layers of stucco to reveal the historic brick below. 2.       Old roofing to be removed, deck repaired as necessary, and new roof installed. 3.       Remove interior office layouts and open up ground floor as much as possible for museum/research area.  Refurbish jail cells as part of an interactive exhibit for the museum and also to act as “research cubbies” to house historic books. 4.       Provide at least one ADA accessible restroom inside. 5.       Investigate stair leading up to second floor for structure integrity and refurbish or replace as necessary to be functional to the building. 6.       Renovate building for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems to provide adequate conditioned space befitting the stored volumes of books that will be present, and adequate lighting systems for research/reading capabilities. All project plans will conform to the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for the treatment of Historic Properties.  Directives from the Architecture Division of the Texas Historical Commission concerning the removal of the stucco from the original brick have been received by County Judge Samye Johnson, and will be strictly observed. The 1919 Jail Restoration Project

The Broaddus Christmas Fund was established in 2012 to provide Christmas to children in need in our area.  We are in cooperation with Care n Share of San Augustine, Texas.  That organization is run by Tressie Simon and they accept donations also.  The Broaddus Christmas fund is for children in the Broaddus school district.  Broaddus is located in East Texas and relies heavily on the tourist trade.  We are located on beautiful Lake Sam Rayburn.  I am Shirley J. Parker, the mayor of Broaddus, and contribute freely to the daily management of the city and also volunteer in the surrounding lake area.  We accept presents or money.  We try to provide each child on the applicant list with 2 sets of clothes, underwear, socks, 2 toys and, hopefully a jacket.  Some of these children don't have a coat to wear until we provide them with one at Christmas.  These are all children who would have no toys under the tree without our help.  Please take a few minutes to donate anything you can.  Every $1 is greatly appreciated.

Liam Mark Holland, was born on 6/19/14, and after just 14 hrs a mass was found in his abdomen and after X-Ray was thought to have a bowel obstruction. Liam was then transferred to Arkansas Children's Hospital by Angel 1. After two ultrasounds, an MRI and a biopsy of the abdominal mass. Liam was diagnosed with a Nueroblastoma cancerous tumor. According to his oncologist Nueroblastoma affects approximately 700 children a year and is a cancer caused by nerve cells going haywire. We are currently waiting to see what stage the tumor is in. We are raising money to help Liam's parents with the financial burden that comes with the expenses of food, hotels, gas, and upcoming medical bills they will be accruing.
