HELP ME GET THISMOTHERPHUCKER TO THE FRINGE

<div>I'm Lisa and this Crowd Fundraiser is to help out our family at a difficult time. I have been off work since April due to illness ( a kidney infection, a uterus infection and then 3 unexpected brain seizures) and this has made my cerebral palsy much worse. I will slowly be phasing myself into work but it has been a very tough few months meaning I may not be able to pay my rent and bills moving forward. Due to my various illnesses I now need adaptions to my bathroom ( and perhaps other areas of the flat) but the NHS waiting list is 3 years. I cannot wait that long. At the moment I have carers, but soon I will need to start paying for my care as Hackney will stop and they will ask me to contribute in some way. ( I also get disability PIP [Personal Independent Payment] but this is only £593 every 4 weeks. Sick Pay is only £116.75 a week. This is not enough to live on.

<div>My father who is currently in The Philippines has kidney disease and as there is no NHS in the Philippines [he is unable to travel back to the UK for treatment]....everything has to be paid for...and this is all very expensive. From his tests, Doctor appointments, and medication. It all adds up. As he has been so unwell, work has not been forthcoming and they desperately need money for rent and bills. The doctors are trying to keep him off dialysis ( too expensive) and of course he is too old to have a transplant

<div>We have all found it very hard to do this, but in such trying times for many ( you will find most disabled people have to crowd fund at some point) we felt this was our only option. We are aware that many people all over the world are suffering at the moment but anything you contribute will be greatly appreciated and we will give you updates and proof of our progress along the way. <div>”Mark meant an awful lot to an awful lot of people. He was an idiosyncratic, vivid, loving person who imprinted on his friends and family in a rare way. I will miss him until the day I die.”

<div>Mark was caring, clever and funny. The hole his absence has created is massive, particularly for his partner, Clare and young son, Dale. It is impossible to put an amount of money on this but anything you can give would help. <div>As a mixed Black Caribbean-led organisation we were eligible for a number of grants sparked by the Black Lives Matter 2020 movement. This allowed us to thrive in the short term, but these funds were largely one-off gestures rather than essential ongoing core support.

<div>Over the past few months, a number of crucial and expected arts grants and income sources for our work in 2023 have not materialised or been cut, and our primary industry donor has departed.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>This has left us in a tight spot. We are now turning to our community to help get us through the next few months whilst we carry out our longer-term plans to make Saffron more sustainable. </strong>

<div>As recently highlighted by <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/music/2023/mar/03/arctic-monkeys-guns-n-roses-elton-john-all-male-glastonbury-headliners-a-pipeline-problem-says-emily-eavis" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><strong>Emily Eavis</strong></a> following criticism of Glastonbury’s all-white-male lineup, there is an industry “pipeline problem”. A problem Saffron has actively been working to address from all angles.

<div><strong>In 2022 we provided music tech training and community infrastructure for over 1000 people around the world.</strong> <strong>This included widening accessibility: </strong>
</div>

<li>40% access courses, mentoring and memberships for free or discounted
</li>
<li>46% are global majority (Black, Asian, mixed ethnicities)
</li>
<li>37% have additional support needs, eg. Autism, physical or mental health issues
</li>

<div><strong>And generating real impact:</strong>

<li>41% of Mix Nights course graduates have gone on to paid gig bookings
</li>
<li>34% of radio course graduates have secured their own residency

<div><strong>There is a vital need for our work. </strong>To put this in perspective: in 2022, we had 644 course applications for 200 places.

Sustain Saffron

Julian Cole, a sports science student and semi professional football player, had his neck broken by 6 police officers on a night out in Bedford. 3 of the officers later lied about their involvement during the investigation of the arrest. Julian was unarmed and was tragically left brain damaged and paralysed for life as a result of the incident outside of a nightclub in Bedford in 2013. He is now in need of 24hr bed bound care. <br /><br /><br /><strong>The police and government have offered no compensation after 7 years and the family is still fighting for justice.</strong><br /><br /><iframe media_type="0" media_id="wPFLqk1Nhdw" class="youtube-replace" title="YouTube video player" style="margin-bottom:20px;width:560px;height:315px;" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/wPFLqk1Nhdw/?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="1"></iframe><br /><br />The purpose of this campaign is to raise money to help contribute to Julian Cole’s medical care and mainly support his family in any way possible in adjusting to their new roles in Julians life. As well as the fight for justice and seeing the (ex) police officers arrested, charged and jailed for their criminal abuse of power. <br /><br /><br />Julian was NOT the reason police were called in the first place. He was innocent, unarmed and stood at approximately 5’5 (below average height for a man).<br /><br />Since May 2013, his life has changed beyond all recognition. Once an energetic young man and a promising semi-professional athlete, he's now dependent on nursing staff and his devoted parents for everything. It’s unfair and unjust. In March/ April 2020 our beloved friend and hip hop MC TY had been admitted into the hospital with medical complications related to COVID19. Shortly after, he was put in a medically induced coma to temporarily sedate. To help his body receive the appropriate treatment. Community Support for TY

During this tour our van was broken into in Manchester and more than £10,000 worth of instruments were stolen. The insurance companies are refusing to cover the loss. We are carrying on thanks to the favors and lends from friends, however we need to replace our instruments to continue to perform and earn our livelihoods. <br /><br />Any donation, however small, would be hugely appreciated. We will be sending everyone a download link for some exclusive live recordings from this tour. If we raise above the amount needed to replace our instruments, any excess will be donated to Help Musicians UK. <br /><br />Some of the instruments had great sentimental value, so please keep an eye out for them!
