<div>My sister-in-law, Deanna, lost her almost 2.5 year battle with stage-four cancer Saturday at 5:37 p.m. She may have lost the battle, but she won the war, gaining eternal life free of pain and suffering.

<div>Deanna was funny, smart, and in my mind, she was always summer, suntan lotion, sunshine, daffodils, sunsets and beautiful beaches. She will always remind me of family and the importance of remaining loyal and present to family no matter the personal cost or sacrifice.

<div>Life dealt her a few crappy hands; I’m proud of how she ended up playing them. I’m glad she finally found her prince. My brother loved her so well, and she him. He has been a devoted caretaker, and I’m so proud of him. He said to me, “I wish I could have taken care of her longer.” I wish he could have, too. Fifty-four is too young to say goodbye to the love of your life.

<div>We are told weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning. Deanna’s proverbial morning has finally come around. She climbed the great big mountain. I’m so happy for her. She’s earned her endless summer. But it’s still winter for the rest of us. It’s already been a long night, and right now, it feels like it may take morning a little while to break through down here.

<div>I will miss you, Deanna. As I promised you, your kids will always know their Aunt Staci is here for them, and there won’t be a single day when I won’t be available to them or my brother if they need me in any way.

<div>I would ask that the rest of you please lift my brother, the kids, grandkids, our parents, our extended family and all who loved Deanna best up in thought and prayer. We could all use your warm thoughts and the strength and peace that comes from your prayers.

<div>ORIGINAL POST: For more than a year, our beloved Deanna — wife to my brother John, grandmother, mother, sister, aunt, and friend — has fought an incredibly courageous battle against stage 4 metastatic colorectal cancer.

<div>From the moment of her diagnosis, Deanna has faced every challenge with grace, determination, and unwavering faith. She’s endured countless treatments, each one taking a tremendous toll on her body but never breaking her spirit. She has been brave beyond words — steadfast in her will to fight, and full of love for her family and those of us blessed to be in her life.

<div>Recently, we received the heartbreaking news that the cancer has continued to spread despite every effort. After many long and difficult conversations, Deanna and John have made the unimaginable but deeply thoughtful decision to stop treatment and focus on comfort and time together. Deanna has now entered hospice care, choosing quality of life over quantity of days.

<div>As she faces this next chapter, our family’s greatest wish is to give Deanna the peace and comfort she deserves — time surrounded by her husband, her children, and all who love her most.

<div>The journey has been not only emotionally devastating but also financially exhausting. The treatments have been costly, as has the travel involved for her medical care. Deanna has been unable to work, and John has missed significant time from work out of a deep desire to be present with her — to attend appointments, provide care, and spend as much precious time together as possible. They are only in their 50s — far too young to be facing the heartbreak of parting with the love of their lives.

<div>To make matters even harder, their furnace recently quit and will cost over $5,000 to replace. On top of that, their sewer has backed up — two major issues that they simply do not have the finances, emotional energy, or time to handle right now. These challenges have come at the worst possible moment.

<div>They need our help. I am respectfully asking anyone who can to contribute any amount to help ease their family’s burden, so they can focus solely on spending these remaining days together — free from the weight of financial worry.

<div>We are reaching out with heavy hearts but hopeful spirits to ask for your help for our sweet, vibrant 5-year-old <strong>Anberlin</strong>. For the past 18 months, she has been battling unbearable pain caused by osteoid osteoma of the right quadrilateral plate—a non-operable tumor in her hip joint that has stolen so much of her childhood. Instead of running, playing, and simply being a kid, she has endured constant discomfort, limited mobility, and countless doctor visits.

<div>Despite seeking help from specialists in Iowa and Des Moines, she has been denied the care she needs and even the prescription for proper pain relief. The only medication she was given—Motrin—is making her sick, leaving her suffering without relief.

<div>Now, after exhausting all local treatment options, we finally have a glimmer of hope. <strong>Texas Children’s Hospital—one of the best pediatric facilities in the country—has agreed to take on her case.</strong> However, this means traveling from her home in Iowa where she lives with her mom &amp; dad, five states away to Texas, which comes with overwhelming financial burdens—medical expenses, travel costs, extended stays, and lost wages for her parents who need to be by her side.

Help Anberlin Get the Care She Desperately Needs

<p>My name is Heather Brown. I am writing this because I am the daughter of Laverne Christner Jr. Sadly, after only a two-month battle of finding out that he had squamous cell metastatic carcinoma, stage 4 cancer, on February 2nd at 10:15 am, he passed away at home. Anyone who knew my dad knew that he was an amazing person. He wasn't in pain in October, and we went for a CT scan, and he was fine. Then we went back in December to do another CT scan, and it was everywhere. At first, they made it seem like there was hope. They had him rushed in to give him an emergency hip surgery because his right hip was shattering. We thought this was good news. When he first got home, he was walking and doing okay until a blood clot ended up forming in his other leg. He kept going to the hospital, and his leg started turning extremely red, and they said it would need to be amputated. They couldn't take the risk of doing another surgery that big. They tried to give him medicine for his blood clot, but it was not getting better, and he finally decided he wanted to come home. He was only home for 36 hours before he passed away. I had told him I loved him, and he said he loved me too, and those were his last words. He did so much for everybody else without thinking about himself. He would give the shirt off his back to give to somebody else. If anybody needed help, he was like the Jack of all trades and could do just about anything, and he would go and help. That was my dad. A complete hero in my eyes. He completely put me first after my car accident and was there with me every step of the way with therapy appointments and all, wanting to learn how to help make me independent. He became my solid foundation. He always made sure I would get the job done.

<p>Right now, we are facing a horrible hardship. <b>We're asking for help for funeral expenses as well as general expenses.</b> We just received a phone call yesterday saying that the total amount the funeral cost is due within 30 days!! Mom was told she would get some of his social security after he passed away, but because she made only about $100 more, she gets absolutely nothing. She has $1,000+ in bills a month, plus we are trying to figure out how to pay for his funeral expenses when we are struggling just to make it through the month. The financial hardship that this has now created is especially hard because we're still trying to deal with the grief of losing him, and now we are in grief because this financial hardship just came through a phone call today. We want him to know that we are going to be okay. He never wanted to leave us struggling. Anytime we were, he always figured something out. <b>If anybody could please make donations or share this, I would greatly appreciate it because at this point, we don't know what to do.</b> My mom is taking everything extremely hard, and the news today about the financial hardship and the expense from the funeral has just been too much. It is so hard losing a parent and then to watch your other parent struggle with losing somebody they spent half their life with and knowing there's nothing you can do to help them hurts. I want to help my mom so she is not struggling. My dad always was there for my mom. He always made sure that she came first and she was okay. I'm just asking the community and friends and family that may see this that you could donate anything. It could even be a dollar anything helps and we would be grateful for it, or even sharing would be a great blessing. One of the last things I feel that I could do to honor him is to make sure that everything is taken care of and that my mom is okay.
