<div>On 3rd June 2025, Eliseo P. and his wife Carolina P., arrived at her scheduled immigration check-in in San Francisco, only for Carolina to be abruptly detained and transported to Arizona the same day. Eliseo and their two young children (ages 5 and 10) are now left in shock, grief, and uncertainty.

<div>Carolina, an indigenous Maya K’iche’ woman from rural Guatemala, speaks only her native K’iche’ language and has endured immense hardship, fleeing persecution in her homeland. Seeking refuge, she arrived in the U.S. in January 2024 with her 3 year old child, only to learn that a past attempt to enter in 2013 had unknowingly led to a removal order against her. Carolina has no criminal history and is a pillar for her family and community. She and her family have filed for asylum.

<div>Now, ICE has suddenly enforced that old order, tearing her away from her family and imprisoning her in a detention center in Arizona. Separated from her husband and children, she must now fight her legal battle alone, thousands of miles away from those who love and depend on her.

<div><strong>Legal Battle: </strong>Carolina needs urgent legal representation for her Reasonable Fear Interview—the first step to challenging her deportation. If she passes, she'll be allowed to fight her case before an Immigration Judge, but she needs a lawyer in Arizona immediately.

<div><strong>Basic Needs: </strong>With Carolina detained, Eliseo—who is also seeking asylum—must now care for their two children alone. The family struggles to afford rent, food, and necessities.

<div><strong>Trauma &amp; Mental Health Support: </strong>The children are crying constantly, struggling to understand why their mother was taken. They need counseling and stability during this traumatic time.

Mom of 2 Detained by ICE in San Francisco: Support Family

<p>Rheka Wells is deeply loved and well known by her family and community as a rock- a big sister, protector, defender, and hard worker. She’s been an employee of EBMUD for several years but was recently placed on leave. For the past year, she has been caring for her two children ages 3 and 5, sharing the daily responsibility of caring for her grandmother who is living with dementia, auntie who is severely disabled with cerebral palsy, with her sister Rheema (Emy) Calloway of the Vegan Hood Chefs. On July 27th, Rheka was involved in a hit and run accident while riding her motor scooter at the intersection of Junipero Serra and Winston. She was knocked unconscious and left in the intersection with a severe head injury. As a result of this accident, she was rushed into a risky emergency surgery with a 50/50 chance of survival. Thankfully, Rheka pulled through surgery but remains hospitalized in the ICU. The doctors are still unable to determine the long term impact of her head trauma or how long she will remain hospitalized. While this accident has been one of the scariest moments of our lives, we are so grateful that Rheka pulled through and is on a strong road to recovery. Your help will make that road a little smoother for her and her family. The funds raised in this campaign will be used to help off-set Rheka’s medical expenses that are not covered by insurance, provide for her children, and give her time to recover from this experience.

<div>Hey folks, Samala and Skye here. If you don’t know us, we are very much Team Hazel (and Grey, Marceline, and Moises, of course; Seana and Katherine, too!) Marceline and our kid Paxton have been friends and classmates since they were 2yo. For the past four years, we’ve been so fortunate to be in community/chosen fam with Hazel-Re and her whole fam. We’ve seen her show up (and show out!) countless times for her people and her community. Hazel and Grey have helped us SO many times — last minute school pick ups, meals, absorbing Pax into their fam for a spell, and so much more. She’s frequently the first to organize a meal or gathering, offer a hug, help with childcare in a pinch, and show up with unwavering generosity and love for her people. She is a pillar of strength for her family, her friends, and every community she’s a part of. If you know Hazel-Rue, you know she’s all heart and fire. She helps her people in any/all ways she can; she will also throw down and fight ferociously, if need be.

<div>As some of you know, Hazel has been navigating health challenges. Recently, she was diagnosed with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND). FND is a complex medical condition that affects the nervous system — aka it’s really tough and let’s support our girl! Some of the things that come with FND: debilitating fatigue, chronic pain, mobility issues, and brain fog. I trust we all know how strong Hazel is. Even (especially?) the strong need help, too. FND has made it difficult for her to work consistently, and there’s significant financial and emotional strain for her family as a result.
