 Help Bring Kirsten Home After a Devastating Cruise Accident

 What was supposed to be Kirsten’s first cruise turned into the worst experience of our lives.
</div>
<div>

 On day three of our Carnival cruise, Kirsten was seriously injured during a rope swing excursion. Based on what we witnessed, a retrieval/tag line appears to have been improperly connected to the swing. As she swung out, the line tightened between her legs just before she dropped, causing a catastrophic injury.

 At first, she thought it was only a scratch. She even walked back to our transportation trying to laugh through the pain.
</div>

 <br>

<div>
 Within hours, everything changed.
</div>
<div>
 <br>
</div>
<div>
 The swelling became severe, the pain became unbearable, and she eventually needed a wheelchair just to get back to our cabin. I called 911 from the ship, and she was rushed to the medical center where doctors treated her for hours. The swelling continued to worsen until it had reached roughly the size of a baseball.
</div>

 The ship’s doctors gave us three options:
</div>

 * Air evacuate to the United States
</div>
<div>
 * Be taken to a hospital in Cozumel and figure out our own way home
</div>
<div>
 * Remain in the ship’s medical facility for the rest of the cruise
</div>
<div>
 <br>
</div>
<div>
 We chose the air evacuation.
</div>
<div>
 <br>
</div>
<div>
 We were then told we needed a $20,000 deposit, another $30,000 upon arrival in the U.S., and had only a few hours to make that decision.
</div>
<div>
 <br>
</div>
<div>
 While waiting for evacuation, Kirsten spent approximately 26 hours in the ship’s medical facility, where charges alone reached around $3,500, not including physician services, medications, and procedures. During that time, her pain became so severe that she could barely move, and at one point the medical staff told me they were trying to keep her awake because she would stop breathing whenever she drifted off from the pain medication.

 After hours of delays, she was finally transported by ambulance through severe weather to the airport, where a private medical jet flew us to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. We are now away from home while she undergoes testing, treatment, and recovery.

 We still have a long road ahead.

 The financial impact has been overwhelming. Between emergency transportation, medical expenses, travel, lodging, lost income, and the unexpected costs of getting ourselves and our vehicle back home, the expenses continue to grow.

<div>On Wednesday December 31st my life changed after I was brutally attacked by a stranger at my workplace. A stranger. While I was doing my job, decided that he was going to kill me. Can you imagine? I'm still trying to wrap my head around this.

<div>My friends say I'm an itty bitty thing. I stand about 5' and weigh all of 100 pounds. My attacker was a large man, whom I had never seen before. He has been charged with ATTEMPT MURDER-FIRST DEGREE -PROBABILITY OF DEATH, and may face many other charges, if justice prevails.

<div>I suffered several severe injuries and required surgery, not to mention the mental and emotional trauma from this unimaginable situation. Complications from the first surgery, resulted in a second surgery and the healing process has been rough.

<div>I am currently unable to work as my body is healing and I am dealing with the emotional trauma caused by this attack. I am seeking community support for living and medical expenses, while I get back on my feet.

<div>Unfortunately after initial investigation there is no workman's compensation, no unemployment and no employer insurance to help me through this time. I also do not have private medical insurance. I know many of you have questions and all I can say is that this is a complicated legal situation. I have an attorney that is representing me and it looks like it will be many years before I see any compensation for what I have been through (if any at all).

Husband, Father of 8, sole bread winner on Monday was taken by ambulance and diagnosed with an aortic aneurysm with dissection and then was taken by helicopter to another hospital for an emergency bypass, hours later he suffered a heart attack and needed an emergency stint placed in the carotid artery, his kidneys have failed and is on dialysis, he has aspiration pneumonia and has been placed in a medically induced coma on a respirator, his aortic dissection is throughout from the heart to the organs and lower extremities and he may loose a leg, its a miracle he is alive and God willing he gets through this he will need life long care and support, the family will need help in providing that care as they do not have the means or the insurance and the bills are accumulating.  Money for nurses, rehabilitation, a remodeling done downstairs, etc....Please pray for him any amount will help, Thank You.

She was a kind, caring, humble, loving, family member (mother, daughter, sister, aunt, niece, cousin), a friend to many, a dedicated worker, a provider for those in need, and an amazing human being all round. She faced many battles head on; she was a warrior that never gave up. Through her positive presence and servant attitude she shone God's light into so many peoples lives without even knowing it!
