2026 Flood Relief Fund

<div>I'm Laura, a swim coach in Palo Alto, California. This fall I'll be attempting to achieve a long-time dream by swimming the English Channel. I started swim lessons when I was four years old and joined a competitive team soon after. When I was eleven, I swam the 1650 free for the first time and thought, "Huh, that was a good swim - there's something to the distance events. Maybe I'm a distance swimmer." Open water swimming wasn't as popular when I was a kid, so it wasn't until high school that I heard about people swimming the English Channel and wondered, "Could I do that one day?"

<div>Marathon swimming like the English Channel is distance swimming at an extreme level. The shortest distance between England and France is 21 miles, but tides and currents mean that swimmers end up covering anywhere from 25 to 35 miles in a swim that can range from 7 to 20+ hours. The water temperature is below 65 degrees and a good portion of the swim occurs in darkness in the middle of the night. Fewer people have swum the English Channel than have climbed Mount Everest.

<div>Training to swim the English Channel is an intense process. I started seriously preparing for it three years ago, securing my boat in England and completing longer swims in the bay's cold water, plus increasing yardage in the pool. In August, I fly to England for three weeks and head to Dover to await the best weather conditions to attempt the swim.

<div>There's so much that goes into an English Channel swim: hiring a boat escort, recruiting a crew, acquiring the necessary equipment, and flying to and spending almost a month in England waiting for the right weather conditions. Any amount of support you feel comfortable with giving is much appreciated! I've felt so much interest and best wishes from everyone - I'll be thinking of all of you during the swim as motivation to keep going.

Emergency Relief for Venezuela Earthquake Victims

<div>My name is Susan Carroll and I created this fundraiser for my best friend, Nicole Martinez, who has breast cancer. AGAIN. Her first diagnosis in 2018 was dealt with head-on; given family history she had a bilateral mastectomy to ensure it wouldn’t come back. This new diagnosis of invasive breast cancer in her lymph node was never supposed to happen. But it has. Nicole and I have been best friends for over 40 years; she would never ask for help, but this round she needs it. And quickly.

<div>We received the bad news in March. It’s JUNE. June. Her surgery is scheduled for July. Why? Because initially she had to scramble to cover costs for testing, switch hospitals, switch surgeons. All to save money. Honestly I can’t stand it; she needs a reserve to get the best treatment she can and as quickly as she can and not be stressed about how she’s going to pay for it.

<div>Fibroids are benign tumors that grow in and around the uterus.<strong> Up to 8 out of 10 women will develop fibroids by age 50.</strong>  And yet, despite impacting millions, fibroids remain severely underfunded and under-researched. Treatment options are limited and often extremely invasive — <strong>they’re one of the leading causes of hysterectomies.</strong>

<div>For years, Gina has been one of the people who is always there when someone needs help. Whether it’s walking dogs, giving love to scared shelter animals, helping with transports, or driving for hours to get a dog safely to their new home, she has always stepped up without hesitation and without ever asking for anything in return.

<div>Her kindness doesn’t stop at the shelter. Gina is the type of person who is always helping others, always giving back, and always putting the needs of those around her before her own.

<div>Last night, Gina and her husband Gordon experienced a devastating house fire that changed their lives in an instant.
</div>

<div>While they are incredibly grateful that neither of them was injured and that they were able to save their four rescue dogs, they suffered unimaginable losses. Their beloved cat, Tooey, did not survive the fire.
</div>

<div>The damage to their home is catastrophic. Their kitchen, living room, dining room, and much of the house were destroyed by the fire. Areas that were not touched by flames have been severely damaged by smoke and water. They also lost both of their vehicles and nearly all of their belongings.

<div>In a matter of hours, they lost the home they knew, their transportation, their possessions, and the sense of security that so many of us take for granted.

<div>Right now, they are staying with a kind neighbor while they begin the overwhelming process of navigating insurance claims and figuring out how to rebuild their lives. But the reality is that they need immediate help. They have no transportation, no permanent place to stay, no way to cook, and countless unexpected expenses ahead of them.

<div>In November 2024, our lives were turned upside down when the corporate franchisor behind our  store in Keizer, Oregon abruptly seized our business, changed the locks, confiscated our inventory, and publicly accused us of theft. After more than a year of trying to resolve this privately and professionally with corporate leadership, we were left with no choice but to file a lawsuit.

<div>We are now asking for help covering the overwhelming legal costs required to fight this battle.

I just recently graduated from physical therapy (shoutout to MSU PT), as I couldn’t walk far from September until I started going there around Thanksgiving. Nick, Ian and Jake cycle 300 miles

<div>We are a group of nurses, colleagues, and close friends who work together on a Neonatal Unit, and we are coming together to raise money to support our lovely colleague Lisa Duggan and her family during an unimaginably difficult time.

<div>Lisa is not just a colleague to us, she is a compassionate, dedicated nurse and a deeply caring person who gives so much of herself to others every single day. Now, her family needs that same care and kindness returned to them.

<div>Lisa’s 22-year-old son, Tiger, was involved in a devastating accident while riding a motorbike in Thailand, where he was hit by an on-coming vehicle and sustained life-threatening injuries. His friend was with him and had to watch for 16 harrowing minutes as attempts were made to resuscitate him at the scene.

<div>Tiger was transferred from Koh Phangan to Koh Samui, where he remains unconscious, fighting for his life. Lisa and her partner are currently on their way to Thailand, facing every parent’s worst nightmare. Their plan is to transfer Tiger to Bangkok for further specialist care and, when possible, bring him home to the UK.

<div>The emotional toll of this situation is overwhelming, but the financial burden is also immense, including medical treatment abroad, transfers between hospitals, flights, accommodation, and the long road ahead.

<div>Cody is the kind of dog who makes everyone he meets smile — endlessly cheerful, full of life, and completely devoted to the little girl who calls him her best friend. The two have been inseparable since the day she welcomed him home, and their bond is something truly special. Cody was adopted by the Mariani family in Feb 2025.

<div>On April 8, Cody was rushed to the ER after suddenly losing the ability to stand or walk. Doctors quickly identified a dangerously low platelet count, and further tests revealed significant internal bleeding caused by a mass in his liver. He remained in the ER for two days under close monitoring.

<div>Over the past couple of weeks, it has been incredibly difficult for the Mariani family to watch Cody slow down and struggle without his usual energy. Their sweet, joyful boy now needs surgery to remove the mass. The doctors are optimistic — they believe that once the mass is removed, Cody will make a full recovery and go right back to living his happy, normal life. While the nature of the mass is still being determined, the medical team feels confident about his prognosis.

<div>The Mariani family has already poured so much into getting Cody the care he needs — over $7,000 in the past few weeks alone, between emergency vet visits, diagnostic tests, and specialist consultations.  The surgery and follow-up care are expected to cost an additional $15,000. They've been doing everything right, consulting multiple veterinarians to find the very best path forward for him. On top of the financial strain, they are carrying an overwhelming emotional burden and stress as they navigate this incredibly difficult time. Their love for Cody is absolute.
