<div>For the past few weeks, while walking towards Hout Bay, I've noticed an old car parked on the side of the road. Towels hang from the windows, and it looked as though someone was living inside. A few weeks ago, a young woman approached me and asked if I could help.

<div>I asked her what had happened.
</div>
<div>She told me that she and her husband managed a farm in KwaZulu-Natal. They were attacked, tied up, robbed of virtually everything they owned, and forced to flee. Terrified and with nowhere else to go, they packed what little they had left into an old car and made their way to Cape Town.

<div>At first, I struggled to believe the situation was as bad as it sounded. Today I stopped again on my walk and they were still there so I bought them some cookies .
</div>
<div>Cant believe .. They are still living in that car. / 3 people ..
</div>
<div>Not a caravan. Not a truck. A car.
</div>
<div>And they have a kid ..
</div>
<div>A few weeks ago I gave them the only cash I had on me. It wasn't much, but today, seeing them still there, my heart broke...

<div>Tonight I'm going to get their names and start a GoFundMe campaign. I'll begin with the first R1,200 myself.

<div>I'm asking for your help. Not because they're white, black, poor, local, or foreign. None of that matters. They are human beings who have been through a terrible ordeal and now find themselves living on the side of a mountain with a  11 year old kid and NOWHERE TO CALL HOME ..Jolene and her boy [ H.... e ] sleep in the bakkie [ car ] , Itzy sleeps outside in the cold and Cape Rains .. not ok , G- d watches us ....

You, together with your “funders”, are certainly having a hand in improving the present deplorable level of literacy in this beautiful country!  I thought it might be helpful if I gave you a bit of background re our precious library.  Maybe you can use some of it on your Go Fund Me page. When I retired in 2003 as Librarian of a High School, I was asked by a friend if I would like to volunteer at an outreach  programme called the " Granny Project" whereby retired women  came in to schools to lend extra support to struggling pupils. I was assigned to OGPS but when the headmistress heard I was a librarian she took me to a room strewn with books , the majority in differing stages of disrepair. The govt had withdrawn funding for a librarian many years before and thus was the status. She begged me to try and restore it to its former glory and thus the library was resurrected. This was 20 years ago and there is still very little govt support for libraries, never mind an actual librarian post! We started with 2 volunteers but today we are a group of 13 passionate and dedicated women.  The school has a complement of 1600 pupils, mainly from disadvantaged backgrounds, ranging from Grade R to Grade 7 and we rely solely on donations from members of the public to keep our bookshelves stocked and the library functioning.   For many of the children English is not their first language and school is their only contact with books,  thus we try, with our limited resources, to expose them as much as possible to the incredible gift of reading and the value of books. Hey, so I don't feel great about doing this but also thought what the hell...<br /><br /><strong>The opportunity to go and create music with an amazing producer in America has come up and I need some cash monies to get my butt over there and live for about a month and a half. Time is of the essence  and I need to get over there asap. This is my absolute dream so if anyone can spare a few bucks please do because I would be so eternally grateful!!!! You know I would never dare to ask unless I really needed the help and it was my absolute biggest dream in life. To be clear I'm not going over there for a jolly, I'm going over there to work hard on making my music career happen.<br /><br /></strong>As you all know I had 2 brain surgeries in the last 8 months which has made it extremely hard for me to work much as I get really exhausted, overwhelmed and run down....that plus all the medical bills have used up all my savings and left my bank account pretty dry.... as little as $5 helps.
