<div>With each year improvements are made and knowledge is gained, but funding is still lacking. What we've come to realize is that success often is linked back to proper and adequate equipment. Athletes on the US team are self-funded and rely on various odd or remote jobs and the support of their community.

<div>Project Push to Gold Fund is a nonprofit created and operated by US Skeleton Athlete, Mystique Ro. This nonprofit was created to help bridge the equipment gap for athletes currently in or joining the sliding world.

<div>Sliding Sports are one of the top three most expensive Olympic Sports, and it is Athlete Funded ('Self-Funded'), meaning no government support.

<div>My name is Darryl Payne, Jr. and 18 years ago, a dream came to mind. A dream to represent my country in a way that presents power, grace and camaraderie. A dream that many people often pursue, but few succeed in achieving. I am training for a spot on the United States Olympic Skeleton Team.

<div><strong>Okay, so what exactly is Skeleton?</strong>

</div>

<div>Glad you asked! I asked the same thing when I first heard about it, but we’ll get to that story later.

</div>

<div>Skeleton is one of three sledding sports that take place at the Winter Olympic Games. Similar to Luge in that I’m sliding down a serpentine ice course on a sled, inches from the ground—except I’m going down HEAD FIRST wearing nothing but a helmet and speed suit! Speeds can reach in excess of 85 mph, but it is actually safer than Bobsled or Luge which each travel faster.

<div>After the mention of the speeds the sled can reach, I always get asked, <strong>“What made you want to do that?!”</strong>

</div>

<div>The answer to that lies in a call from the US Olympic &amp; Paralympic Committee to athletes across the country, to try and become the Next Olympic Hopeful. Originally, I was selected to compete for a fully funded bobsled training spot, however, I was much smaller than the necessary mass required to get that sled moving down the track. After the scouting camp was completed, I was pulled aside by the Head Coach for US Bobsled and offered an invite to go out to Skeleton School in Lake Placid, New York. The sport is much better suited for my frame and mass. Think about it: I’m 5’9.5”. Bobsled needs me to be 102 kg (225 lbs). Skeleton needs me to be 84 kg (185 lbs). Make sense now?

<div>Once the end of the skeleton school neared it’s completion, there was the Rookie Push Championship and I placed second after only a week of learning the sport.

</div>

<div>A competitor of sprints from the age of 7 years old, and well into my career on the high school track, I’ve been very successful athletically. Achieving ranks such as Everyday People Combine Winner, True Athlete Games Winner, and Austin Fit Magazine's 2nd Fittest Man. Adding this new sport brings about many new challenges—mentally, physically and financially.

Barefoot On Ice: A Journey to the 2026 Winter Olympics!!!

My journey in the sport of skeleton began after my time as a Division One football player at Idaho State University. The transition from football to skeleton was challenging, but the support from my friends, family, and the community in Pocatello, Idaho has kept me motivated every step of the way. Their encouragement has been a driving force as I pursue my dream of competing in the 2026 Winter Olympics.

 This season, I am raising funds to cover essential expenses such as travel, lodging, race fees, sled maintenance, groceries, rental cars, Airbnb stays, gym fees, and track fees. The costs add up quickly, but each investment brings me closer to representing my country on the world stage. I am proud to be the back-to-back US national push champion and the overall winner of the North American Cup for the 2024/2025 season. These achievements reflect the dedication and countless hours I have put into training and competition.

Road to the 2026 Winter Olympics

<div>My name is Sam Allred! I’m from Dallas, Texas and I’m training for a spot in the 2026 Olympic Games in Cortina, Italy.

<div>My path to skeleton began with football! I was a walk-on free safety at Brigham Young University. I didn’t make it onto the team until my senior year, and when I graduated, I knew I wanted to keep going with sport.

</div>

</div>

<div>Every day when training, I’d look up at the Olympic Rings posted above the doors of the gym, and tell myself “I’m training for the Olympics” even though I didn’t know what sport it would be for.

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div>I’d seen Cool Runnings, and knew that bobsledders had to be strong and fast. After emailing and emailing the coaches, they had me do an online combine which led to a rookie camp in Lake Placid!

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div>Turns out, I wasn’t much of a bobsledder. But they told me with my long arms and legs I should push a skeleton sled. It immediately felt like home.

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div>I had no idea that a sport could capture my heart as completely as Skeleton did. When you’re low to the ice, flowing with the track, hitting 80 miles per hour plus… I just felt peace. Which was weird because I’d never considered myself an adrenaline junkie by any means!

</div>

<div>In the last three years, I’ve represented USA in over 20 races at 8 tracks in 7 different countries across North America and Europe.

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div>The hardest part of the journey is finding a way to pay for it. Our federation does what they can to cover equipment costs and a couple flights per season, but 90% of the cost falls on the athletes.

</div>

</div>

<div>I’d always thought Team USA athletes were swimming in endorsement deals and money, but my teammates and I are all as broke as can be. We train full time year round, without a paycheck, working odd jobs in the evenings to try to cover the cost of the upcoming season. Each year, we sink deeper and deeper into debt trying to finance the Olympic dream.

<div>Most athletes quit years before they’ve reached their full potential simply because there’s no way to make it make sense financially. In a way, that’s part of the thrill of sports: they demand everything from you, and promise nothing but the journey in return. You have to really really really love what you’re doing.

<div>Thankfully, I do! This season is Olympic Year. At this moment, I can’t afford to make it through the season and am on my last credit card.

Emily's Road to Milano Cortina Olympic Winter Games 2026

<div>My name is Hannah Gaskins and <strong>I am a USA Skeleton athlete aspiring to one day represent my country at the Olympics.</strong>

<div>Last season (24/25), I competed on the North American Cup (NAC) circuit and was able to secure a 3rd and 4th place medal along with other good finishes. It was an awesome season, and I am looking forward to new accomplishments next season as I will be competing in Europe.

<div>The United States Olympic Team does not receive government funding. Athletes rely heavily on sponsorships, federations, and secondhand jobs to fund their Olympic journey. <strong>The US Men's Bobsled team is currently lacking funding to send the full World Cup team on tour this season.</strong> This lack of funding severely jeopardizes our ability to qualify a full Men's Team at the Milan/Cortina Olympics. The Men's Team now has to self-fund $120k in order to bring their 3rd men's team and compete on the World Cup. Our team is more than capable of qualifying a 3 mens sleds and medaling at the Olympics this winter. <strong>We need your financial support to achieve our goals for USA.</strong>

<div>Bobsled expenses accumulate quickly. Shipping sleds to Europe for the season and the Olympics. Runners can cost up to $15k a set; drivers procure these with their own funds and require multiple sets based on ice conditions. <div>Hello, my name is Nicholas Tucker. I am a currently a member of The United States Bobsled/Skeleton Team as a Skeleton Development Athlete. Skeleton is a winter sliding sport where you run 40 meters or so on a slab of ice then jump on a small sled known as a Skeleton Bobsled where you go down a frozen track while lying face down headfirst, hitting speeds up to 80+MPH.

<div>One night in February 2021 I was watching TV and saw a commercial come across my screen for the Tokyo Olympics. As cliché as it sounds my mind started to race, I remember growing up and always watching the Olympics whether it was the summer or winter games. For a span of 17 days my family was glued to the TV, it didn’t matter the sport or who was competing, we cheered on whoever wore the USA logo.

<div>I pulled up Google and typed in Summer &amp; Winter Olympic Sports. I went through a list of sports that I thought I could compete in while also having a serious look at myself on what was possible and what wasn’t. One after the other I went through the list of sports and then came across the sport of Bobsled and Skeleton. I immediately started doing research on other athletes currently on the roster  and their athletic background. Right then and there I realized I could compete, or would have the closest chance to represent the United States through the sport of Skeleton.

<div>Fast forward a couple months, I was invited to compete in a Rookie Camp back in June 2021 in Lake Placid at the Olympic Training Center where I finished 1st in our Push Championship. From there I was invited back to compete against our National Team for the National Push Championship in September for the 2021-2022 season, where I finished Top 5. I recently trained/competed in Park City Utah for the month of November for sliding school where I was able finish 1st out of the Rookie Athletes.

<div>Hello, 17 of my family members (Matilda (the matriarch), Kimberly (Corie), Krystal, Ellyn (Marc), Eshele, Kathy, Morgan, Kameron, Kristopher, Kayla, Asar, Hayden, Parker, Marquis, Brayden, 4 fur babies &amp; a parrot) residing in Altadena, CA, <strong>has lost everything in the current fires.</strong> A total of 5 homes were destroyed, along with a lifetime of memories! <strong>We hope that you can find it in your heart to assist with getting them through this unimaginable event.</strong>

2025 Wildfire Relief Fund

<div>In the early hours of January 8, 2025, the community of Pacific Palisades was abruptly transformed as a relentless wildfire swept through the area. Among the many affected is our dear friend, Amber Feld, and her family.

<div>Their home, filled with many sweet memories, was reduced to ashes. Their car, essential for daily life and son’s school commute, was destroyed. Even her son’s school, Marquez Charter School, a place of learning, growth, and community is gone. In a matter of hours, the foundations of their lives were gone.

<div>Despite this profound loss, Amber's resilience shines through. She remains steadfast, providing comfort and hope to her son, even as they face the daunting task of rebuilding their lives from the ground up.

<div>Over the past few years, so many beautiful friends and strangers have helped me pay for my education by raising $100,000 for my tuition, which I am <strong>eternally</strong> grateful for! The generosity and support of <em>so</em> many people put me through my first two years and have allowed to learn a lot wonderful things and create so much beautiful art.

<div>Junior year was covered with loans and the small amount of federal aid that I received. While I <em>did</em> take a gap semester during the Spring of my Junior year, I returned this Summer to complete some classes! Due to the loans we currently have out, we are not eligible for another. This news has come at a rather unfortunate time as my tuition for the Fall '24 semester in due on August 8th (thanks to the 1-week extension I've been granted to try to figure out my financial situation).

<div>Since starting at Berklee, I've met so many wonderful people and life-long friends. I've gotten to work with some extremely talented musicians, and have grown as an artist and a person. I've gotten the opportunity to stage two of my original musicals, release 2 musical theatre cast recordings (with a 3rd in the works), record a 30-piece orchestra playing my original music, play on <em>numerous</em> sessions, perform with <em>amazing </em>musicians, and learn more about production than I thought I'd <em>ever</em> be interested in. Berklee has given me <em>so</em> many tools and opened up many doors. So many people have put their faith <em>me</em> -- some random kid who made a TikTok a few years ago -- and have invested in me and my dream, and I've made it my goal to pay <em>all </em>of those people back by doing the best I can in school and putting every resource to use.
