<p>Heather is self-employed and is known for her tech support company in her small town. She has supported her clients for the past 30 years. 
</p><br />
<p>Her heart issues are congenital but have worsened recently. She has continued working and has sought medical help in the state. There are very few specialists in her state, and they haven’t been able to resolve her issues. She has been hospitalized several times and even spent 2 weeks in a care facility. Now her heart health is severely affecting her ability to work with her clients and thus to have a sufficient income.

<p>She has the opportunity to have her heart issues addressed soon at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. 
</p><br />
<p>We are fundraising to cover the travel costs to Minnesota, to hire help cleaning and organizing the house for her recovery, funds to live on during her recovery, and funds to replace what she would have earned if not travelling, etc. 
</p><br />
<p>Being self employed means that if you don’t work you don’t necessarily have an income.

<p>Kaity, her 22 year old daughter, is also seeking medical treatment due to a growth on her pituitary. She has visited Barrows Neurology and is working with them on an official diagnosis. Some fundraising efforts would help cover her absence from work, and travel costs to Arizona.

<div>We are fundraising for Lee Weinland’s medical expenses.  His medical battle started in 1993 with cancer treatments to his left leg.  The doctors told him then that the high dose radiation might affect his leg later on in life.  And it has.  In recent years he was in and out of the hospital multiple times battling cellulitis and blood clots directly due to the damage of the radiation, a side effect of the cancer treatments.  After each hospitalization he would have rehab, return home with home therapies, and work hard to get back to independent life.  Just as he recovered his energy and started to feel life was returning to normal, he would be back in the hospital again.  An amputation was first recommended in the emergency department when Lee was in extreme pain from blood clots and infections that would not heal even with antibiotics.  Lee’s doctor told him there was a 100% chance he would not survive without an amputation.  So, he had to endure the amputation of his left leg above the knee in April of this year.

<div>After that operation, he has been in and out of the rehab hospitals multiple times, just to get strong enough to get back to life.  His doctors told him that he is a candidate for a prosthetic leg, but he also needs an additional surgery for a right knee replacement before he can even begin to walk properly again.  Meanwhile, he continues to work on his right leg and upper body strength with intensive physical therapy.  So, he is confined to his wheelchair for now, and strives for greater independence.

<div>Now he needs our support to purchase the equipment he needs to be independent.  His goals include purchasing a used accessible van with a lift.  He has already purchased a light-weight electric wheelchair, an accessible stove, an accessible washing machine, and is being fitted for a prosthetic. He wants to go back to work at least part time, but cannot until he is independently mobile. He can drive, but is unable to put his wheelchair in his car.

<div>Lee is a generous and giving person, lives to help others and is an avid musician.  He volunteers at his church and in the community, supports Special Olympics, loves to help seniors do errands and chores, and he even plays taps at military funerals!  He wouldn’t ask for help himself, so now it is our turn to help and give to him.  I’m sure he will be very grateful!

Support Lee Weinland's Journey to Independence

<div>Ronnie Garcia inherited the sheep from his father, Fabian Garcia, who inherited them from his father. For generations, the herd has been in the Garcia family of El Rito, NM.

<div>The sheep are pastured in El Rito during the winter and spring before moving to the high country for the summer to graze.
</div>

<div>The sheep are currently lambing - meaning birthing baby lambs. The sheep are penned up at night during this volatile time.
</div>

<div>During the night of 3/18/2022, locally-owned, non-restrained dogs managed to gain access to the corral where the birthing sheep were penned up for the night. The massacre resulted in the deaths of 132 ewes (mom sheep) and 115 babies for a total loss of 247 head of sheep.
</div>

</div>

<div>This significant loss of life devasted the family, but it has also inflicted a substantial burden on the family. The family-run business solely relies on income from raising these lambs to sell their wool and highly sought-after organic-raised lamb meat.
</div>

<div>This old tradition is now on the verge of extinction.
</div>

<div>We are searching for assistance to help renew, protect and preserve one precious New Mexico sheepherder and help him continue to maintain this legacy and New Mexican tradition.

<div>Ronnie understands he needs a solution to prevent this from happening again. While he can't control dog owners and their unethical responsibility to train and secure their dogs, he understands that he needs to control what he can control, which is developing a secure and safe environment for his sheep during the birthing season and other vulnerable times throughout their lives.

<div>Ronnie and the team have developed plans to engineer and create a secured environment for lambing. This will require the installation of new corals that unrestrained dogs can't access.

<div>Extending electrical services to allow for electronic fences and cameras will help hold irresponsible dog owners accountable and alert Ronnie and the team when there is a security system breach.
</div>

Lee Weinland is not just my neighbor, but also a cherished member of our church community. He has always been the first to lend a hand or offer support when someone else is in need. Now, Lee is facing a challenge of his own and could use the kindness he’s so often shown to others.

 Lee lost his leg due to the side effects of cancer treatment. Thanks to the generosity of a previous GoFundMe campaign, he has been able to use a power wheelchair and drive a handicap van, which have been essential for his independence. Now, there is exciting news—Lee’s insurance has approved a robotic prosthetic leg! At the end of January, he will travel to Phoenix for a custom fitting and physical therapy. The journey comes with many expenses—gas, lodging, food, and the co-pay for the prosthesis itself. The travel and medical expenses are significant, especially on top of the ongoing medical bills Lee has managed for years. Despite these hurdles, Lee remains hopeful and determined to regain more independence in his daily life.

 Lee is an active part of our community. He plays in the praise band at his church, volunteers as a caretaker for other disabled individuals, drives veterans to VA appointments, and even teaches a music class to seniors—sharing his love of guitar with others. Currently, Lee relies on his electric wheelchair to get around, but with the new robotic prosthesis, he dreams of walking short distances and even climbing stairs—something that would have a huge impact on his quality of life.
