I created Together in the Eye: 20 Years Later to preserve the powerful stories of resilience from families before & after the storm. This project is my way of honoring our history and ensuring these voices are heard nationwide.

Twenty years ago, Hurricane Katrina forever changed New Orleans. Families lost homes, neighborhoods, and loved ones , but not their resilience. I am Yasmeen Blake, a journalist, Katrina survivor, and filmmaker. My documentary, Together in the Eye: 20 Years Later, tells the powerful stories of New Orleans families before and after the storm, preserving the voices and culture that might otherwise be forgotten. The film is now going on tour across the U.S.—to schools, cultural centers, and communities that need to hear these stories of survival, strength, and legacy. But I cannot do this alone.
