Crisis relief

My daughter Skylar will need continued care after she leaves the hospital… this is going to be from 3 weeks to 6 months … her eye is bad if we don’t continue the care she may go blind in that eye. It’s going to be a process.

Our lives changed in an instant when my daughter, Skylar, was involved in a terrible car accident. What should have been an ordinary day turned into a nightmare for our family. Skylar is currently at UAB Hospital and will be released soon, but her long and difficult journey to recovery is only just beginning.  Skylar suffered severe injuries in the accident. She has a fractured spine and must wear a neck brace for at least six weeks. Doctors had to place two titanium plates in her jaw to hold the bones together, and she has multiple lacerations on her scalp, including a hole in the back of her head that requires regular cleaning and care.  One of the most urgent concerns is her vision. Skylar must see a specialist in Birmingham at least three times a week in hopes of saving the vision in her left eye. These frequent treatments are critical for her recovery. Unfortunately, we do not have insurance to cover the many medical visits, medications, and treatments she will need moving forward. On top of that, our family lives in Pensacola, Florida, which means we will need to stay in Birmingham for an unknown amount of time so Skylar can receive the care she desperately needs. This brings additional costs for housing, transportation, and daily living expenses while we remain close to her doctors. As a parent, it’s heartbreaking to watch your child go through something like this and feel helpless when it comes to the financial burden. I want to focus on helping Skylar heal and supporting her through this difficult recovery without the constant worry of how we will afford the care she needs. We are humbly asking for help during this incredibly difficult time. Any donation, no matter the amount, will go directly toward Skylar’s medical care, travel to and from her treatments, temporary housing in Birmingham, medications, and basic living expenses while she recovers. If you are unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser and keeping Skylar in your thoughts and prayers would mean so much to our family. Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for any kindness you can show. Your support truly means the world to us.
