Sandwich, my psychiatric service dog, has been by my side for the past two years, supporting me every day. We go everywhere together and have rarely ever been apart. On the night of the 20th, Sandwich suddenly became very ill, and by the next morning, he was uncontrollably vomiting for two hours straight. I rushed him to the ER, where they performed X-rays but couldn’t find the cause. After receiving anti-nausea and vomiting medications, he was sent home, but a few hours later, he began vomiting again—despite being on a high dose of medication. This deeply concerned the vet staff, and I took him back to the ER that night. They decided it was best for him to stay overnight for observation and care. Today, Sandwich is still struggling with regurgitation, and there’s still no clear answer as to what’s causing his illness. The vets have given him more medication and decided he should stay another night in the hospital. Right now, it’s uncertain when he’ll be able to come home, as his recovery is still up in the air. The costs for his care are continuing to add up. The vets are hopeful that this won’t permanently impact his ability to work as my service dog, but he will need time and care to recover fully. Sandwich means the world to me, and I want to do everything I can to make sure he gets the treatment he needs to come home healthy and happy. We’ve received so much support and love the past few days as Sandwich has been in the hospital. Any help and support is greatly appreciated. We just want Sandwich to come home as healthy as possible.
